I wish I'd had a camera to catch it- one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen: after hurricane Katrina I went down to help clean up things with a large group. We rode there on School Buses and the drivers got lost and we ended up in Kentucky or Tennessee (I wasn't driving so I don't know exactly- this was before cell phones were common). Anyway, we drove over a very large river as the Sun was coming up and when I looked out the Window there was an absolutely perfect sunrise on its own along with dozens of these Steam devils as far I could see, and they weren't fast like this, they were quite slow moving and wen tall the way up to the low cloud layer- VERY tall. It was an amazing and unexpected sight. There's a LOT of weird stories from that trip, it was fun and messed up at the same time.

Although exploring any volcano dead or active is incredibly dangerous and is to be done only by trained professionals, this is not so dangerous . The last Krakatoa eruption in 1883 although blasting out many Indonesian islands and archipelago’s is borderline inactive modern day, never the less be safe this shit is incredibly dangerous

what do you know, there was water in the fissure after all.
@enno961217 күн бұрын
So damn lucky, that it happened to be directly in front of the camera, that was placed close to the potential fissure, compared to the ones further away. Being able to see something like this up close and live was crazy yesterday.

I watched all 2 hrs of it, twice. That entire lake of lava (10-15M deep) drained into the hole in about 15 minutes. Just don't tell Isak that I was stepping out on his live drone footage once I saw these more interesting events going on in the background.

I saw this on the webcams yesterday. It looked like a micro version of Eyjafjallajökull. I knew the water table was somewhere nearby. I guess the lava finally found it in that fissure. Glad that brief bit of ash was blowing away from town.
@robertslugg836117 күн бұрын
Was watching this in real time yesterday. Lava + water go boom. There has been speculation that this crack extends under the lava field down to near the berm, as a fresh lava flow appeared there on 5/29 out of pretty much nowhere, and this was a likely source for it.
@justinwilson392217 күн бұрын
U got to remember the more whitey brown ash clouds are from water + lava but the darker or completely dark ash clouds aren’t from water+lava it was all lava 100% ash content

@@jjMcCartan9686 5 km long and 2 kilometer wide. 90 m deep max or even more. It is enough for santorini-type eruption. I think Tongas Hunga-Tonga Ha Apai was santorini type of eruption.
@juice_lime511411 күн бұрын
@@karihamalainen9622 You need a different type of eruptive style/magma. This one is tholeiithic basalt, while the other 2 you mentioned are basaltic/andesitic. Completely different magma types that allow different eruptive force because this one's lava is much more fluid, thus much harder to retain the gas which drives all volcanic eruptions. Tonga volcano eruption was caused by depressurisation of a large volume of rapidly rising magma, and water adds to the explosivity. This one is different. If Tonga volcano is likened to a shotgun, this one is similar to a leaking pipe. Its not so simple as magma + water = supervolcano explosion.

Why the lava is so liquid, not like the lava in Mexico, Japan, or Indonesia?
@AntonioHoffmann17 күн бұрын
because the terrain of the place is quite steep
@RiddleBoxBree17 күн бұрын
This is what's called an effusive eruption. This basaltic lava, which has less gas and is more runny, where volcanoes like in Mexico and Indonesia are andacite lavas, which are blocky and very explosive because of the gas trapped within them
@Zantigableiaust17 күн бұрын
@@RiddleBoxBree Is that the reason why Dukono, Krakatoa and Sakurajima have explosive eruptions that continue almost every day for years? Or is there another reason? Because you know, for example Lewotolok and Lewotobi aren't explosive, but instead have continuous lava flows that resemble chunks of glass and boulders, but not so explosive.. I'm sorry for asking so many questions, as I'm new to this field (´-﹏-`;)..
@oscarmedina130317 күн бұрын
The lava in Iceland has lower silica content that the lava in Japan or Indonesia. Japan and Indonesia tend to erupt a type of lava called Rhyolite. The lava in Iceland is Basalt.
@RiddleBoxBree17 күн бұрын
@@Zantigableiaust Krakatoa and Sakurajima, as well as Dukano, are all the newest vents from the eruptions of MucH, MUCH bigger volcanic caulderas. And they are made from either Andacite, Trachyte, or Dacite. These 3 types of lavas are very blocky, which holds a LOT of gas thats disolved into it. They are still VERY active and dangerous, because of just how much gas they contain. Its why they are so frequent and explosive
