As an person who lives in India, I can attest that ID requirements are not dependent on socioeconomic background. Even people living on the streets-who, I should mention, face conditions vastly different from those in America-carry identification cards like the Aadhaar Card, despite lacking access to basic human needs. Out of 1.35 billion people, 1.25 billion possess an ID. If India can achieve this, then so can the USA.
@olmo476717 күн бұрын
this is a very informative and enlightening comment. Here in Argentina it's the same, everyone has an ID, no matter their socioeconomic status, getting one is actually extremely easy, and its required for basically everything, including getting economic assistance from the government, and of course, also for voting. The notion of people voting without an ID is actually ridiculous for any Argentinian, it simply makes no sense, I don't get how a world super-power such as the USA can't achieve something like assuring that every citizen has an ID

1. Doesn't infringe on the 24th amendment 2. Doesn't infringe on the 24th amendment 3. Technically infringes on the 2nd amendment. 4. Potentially infringes on the 24th amendment. Between guns and votes, I personally feel it is far more important to completely protect our right to vote. Regardless of how difficult it may make things for individual states to validate votes. Which is what the real conversation should be about. Constitutionally speaking, each state is responsible. If any individual state would like to enact voter ID laws which do not infringe upon the 24th amendment, they are more than welcome to do so.

@@Erik52079 An ID for voting, or gun ownership, violates neither the 2nd nor 24th Amendments, because the Constitution is very explicit about due process being a part of both the granting and revoking of rights. For the most clear cut example, in order to have any rights under the US Constitution you must be a US citizen, and therefore must be able to prove US citizenship. Likewise, having a right to bear arms does not mean there cannot be a process for the registration of ownership, just as having a right to vote does not mean there cannot be a process of verifying the identity of a voter. In fact, in my state I need to provide an ID in order to register to vote, so it makes no sense for it to be unconstitutional that I be required to present that same proof of ID when casting my vote.

There's an issue though, voter ID laws are bad not for being racist but the fact that you must pay money to get identification, you shouldn't have to pay to be able to vote, if the government can supply identification for free then yes I totally support it and would find it beneficial, also cases of people voting a bunch of times like that are like 0.001% or something its incredibly low

@@youtubsux-z4f Are you sure about that last part? We had a referendum here recently where ID was not required, and there were people voting up to 4 times (proven by them taking pictures while putting the vote in). Politics is something people are _pretty_ passionate about. I can totally see people driving to several colleges and casting different votes in different places. ANYWAYS, voters require an ID. We all have IDs here, whether you drive or not. It's mandatory for everyone after age 14, and costs like 15 euros (less than 20 dollars) to get it. Seems like a no-brainer.

The comparison between Denmark and Somalia is about geopolitical and historical context, not race. If the races of the two countries were inverted but their histories, resources, and global circumstances stayed the same, there's no evidence to suggest the outcome would be different. 1. Texas Strict ID Requirements: Texas implemented one of the strictest voter ID laws in 2011. It required voters to present one of seven forms of government-issued photo ID, such as a driver’s license, passport, or military ID. However, many common forms of ID, like student IDs or social security cards, were not accepted. Impact on Marginalized Groups: Critics argued that these restrictions disproportionately affected African Americans, Latinos, elderly voters, and low-income citizens. Many people in these groups are less likely to have the accepted forms of ID due to economic or logistical barriers, such as the inability to afford or access a driver's license. Court Battles: In 2016, a federal court found that Texas's law had a discriminatory impact, particularly on African American and Latino voters. The court ruled that the law violated the Voting Rights Act, but Texas later passed a modified version of the law that still required ID but allowed voters to sign an affidavit if they lacked proper identification. 2. North Carolina Targeting African Americans: In 2013, North Carolina passed a sweeping voter ID law that required photo identification and also cut back on early voting, eliminated same-day registration, and ended out-of-precinct voting. Racial Discrimination: A 2016 federal appeals court struck down the law, saying it targeted African Americans “with almost surgical precision.” The court noted that legislators had requested data on racial voting patterns and then enacted provisions that disproportionately impacted Black voters. For example, Black voters were more likely to use early voting and same-day registration, both of which the law curtailed. Court Rulings: The court found that the law’s intent was to suppress African American voter turnout, which had surged during previous elections, particularly during Barack Obama’s campaigns. 3. Wisconsin Impact on Turnout: Wisconsin implemented its voter ID law in 2011, which required government-issued photo ID. During the 2016 election, it was estimated that between 200,000 to 300,000 registered voters lacked the necessary identification. 2016 Presidential Election: A study conducted after the 2016 election suggested that voter ID requirements contributed to lower turnout, especially among African American and Latino communities. Turnout in Milwaukee, a city with a large Black population, dropped by nearly 50,000 voters, which some analysts attributed to the ID law. Court Rulings: The law was subject to legal challenges, but it remained largely in place. Even when some restrictions were relaxed (such as allowing voters to present alternative forms of ID), the confusion around the requirements may have deterred voters from participating. 4. Georgia Ongoing Debates: Georgia’s voter ID law, enacted in 2005, required photo identification to vote in-person, though it allows for other forms of ID for absentee ballots. Critics argue that the law disproportionately impacts low-income voters, rural residents, and people of color who may face difficulties obtaining a driver's license or other accepted forms of ID. 2018 Gubernatorial Election: Georgia's voting laws were scrutinized during the 2018 governor’s race between Stacey Abrams and Brian Kemp. Kemp, who was Secretary of State at the time, oversaw voter purges and strict ID requirements, leading to accusations of voter suppression. Many voters, particularly Black and minority voters, reported long lines, malfunctioning machines, and absentee ballots rejected due to signature mismatches, issues often linked to stricter voting requirements. Recent Laws: In 2021, Georgia passed new voting laws (SB 202), tightening voter ID requirements for absentee ballots. Critics, including civil rights groups, argue that these changes are designed to suppress votes from communities of color, while supporters claim they are necessary to ensure election integrity. 5. Indiana First Voter ID Law: Indiana was one of the first states to implement a strict voter ID law in 2005. Voters were required to present a government-issued photo ID at the polls, with very few exceptions. Supreme Court Ruling: The law was challenged and eventually upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court in the 2008 case Crawford v. Marion County Election Board. The Court ruled that Indiana's law did not impose an unconstitutional burden on voters, despite concerns raised that the law would disproportionately affect elderly, minority, and low-income voters. Impact on Marginalized Voters: Studies after the implementation showed a decrease in turnout, especially among minority and lower-income voters. Critics argued that the law was unnecessary, as cases of voter impersonation fraud (the type of fraud ID laws are meant to prevent) were extremely rare. General Impact of Voter ID Laws Critics of voter ID laws often argue that these laws disproportionately affect: Minorities: African Americans, Latinos, and Native Americans are less likely to possess the required ID, due to a range of factors such as economic hardship or living in areas where access to state facilities to get IDs is limited. Elderly and Low-Income Voters: These groups may lack access to transportation, birth certificates, or the funds required to obtain a valid government-issued ID. Students: Many voter ID laws do not accept student IDs, even though students, particularly those from out of state, may have difficulty acquiring other forms of local identification. Rural Voters: Access to state offices to obtain ID can be more difficult in rural areas, especially for those without reliable transportation.

The liberal schools are even segregating people...I thought that was bad????

I hope people realize that that statistic is for murder and not just “crime” in general. You can look at it on the FBI’s website for crime stats by race and type of crime. It’s pretty wild and eye opening, but still depressing that over 50% of murder cases is one demographic.

I tried explaining to my ex how racist he sounded when he said that some black people can't get ID, and he didn't understand. He honestly believed that. And when I said "okay, if some people can't get ID then we should focus on helping them instead of just removing restrictions for voting" he just couldn't deal with the convo anymore and left. So yes... People REALLY think this way.

@@xsh4dw Raised by twitter and other echo chambers they live in, perpetually on the internet. I forgot the name but there's a video here on YT about some guy who is on university campuses calmly urging people (via signs etc) to debate with him about what is a woman and such. And the students just screech at his face and call him toxic, bigoted whateverphobe. Instead of actually reasoning with him through debate, which was the whole point of an university in the first place. Critical thinking and debate. They dont even debate in universities anymore. Your thesis if it says "black people are oppressed m'kay" is just approved and nobody dares debate anything about it. Thats how these socially informed shit-degrees get approved via universities.

Around 2013-2014, when I started to notice this weird hyper emphasis on race and "white privilege" making its way into the public lexicon, I adopted a very simple philosophy which has yet to do me wrong and ensures I don't patronize others: "Don't try to speak for other people.
