His name is pronounced Albert " Eye -ler " Ayler . He was from Cleveland . Ohio . Maria Maria his Girl Friend destroyed him , ruined his music and kept him away from his fellow musicians like Sunny Murray and others . Albert was a true Genius . We loved him very much . " Albert Ayler Lives " Thanks for the Video .

Albert played at Coltrane s funeral. Definitely unique. Unfortunately his younger brother who early on played trumpet with Albert also suffered from mental illness. Thanks

Yes. Donald Ayler suffered, too, from mental illness. Things got very bad for Donald when Albert died.

Not a single note of Albert's music featured here. Jazz (any music) is not a collection of photographs. Where is his dynamic sound that truly opened a new approach in the tradition. Give us His Music !!!

There are many records of Albert Ayler's on You tube . His early recordings from 1964 , 65 are some of his best work with Sunny Murray and Don Cherry .

How tall was Albert? I asked that obvious question because of the photo of him and Sunny Murray in this video at 5:08. Sunny towers over Ayler.

@@onetrackjazz Thank you. That photo had me thinking that Sunny Murray was maybe 6'5". Ayler is well proportioned for his height, he doesn't look as short as he is.

Advant Garde/Free Jazz wasn't allowed on commercial radio stations!
@BUF-vr5cr

It was allowed but shunned by the purists that determined programming. Eventually some made its way in but commercial radio that played Jazz was on its way out then in favor of rock and pop music.
