I loved the gardens! Thank you for sharing with us. I so wish rhubarb would grow down here in Texas. We have a few grocery stores that sell a small supply of it when it’s in season. It’s pretty expensive, but I always buy some anyway. My mother often made stewed rhubarb when I was a little girl growing up in south Jersey. I made some last weekend and have been eating it with yogurt. I would love your mom’s rhubarb pie recipe!

Here is my mom’s stewed rhubarb recipe: 1 c water 4 c rhubarb, washed and cut into pieces about 1” in size 1/2 to 1 c sugar (I use 1/2 cup for my taste) 1/8 t cinnamon 1 t lemon juice A dash of salt Boil water and add rhubarb. Cover and simmer until nearly tender. Stir in sugar, cinnamon, salt, and lemon juice. Cook until fruit is tender, 10 to 15 minutes. Taste and add more sugar if desired. Serve cold.

How wonderful to tour the Ethan Allen Homestead! I grew up with rhubarb. My mom often made what she called rhubarb sauce, but my favorite as a child was rhubarb pie. How I miss it since I now live in Texas. And obviously that Waterford vase was a score!

Rhubarb sauce is amazing and I’ll bet your mom’s was exquisite. I have a hard time growing rhubarb which seems to make everyone scratch their head. Luckily I can get it at the farmstand.

I adore your visits to Vermont historical sites. I am in California but I have relatives who lived in Vermont over a century ago, whose last name was Vail (my middle name). One was a member of the Green Mountain Boys. Thank you for your interesting and beautiful videos of Vermont. I had to laugh when you said the weather was really hot there upper 80s and 90 degrees. Those are our cool dayis in Sacramento, CA. We have been haing weeks of triple digits and rejoice when we have a 90 degree day. Stay cool. Thank you for your videos.

Patty, it looks cooler up there than down here in Alabama....loved seeing the Ethan Allen property. I love the vase. My mother collected glassware and we sold it for a song at the estate sale. It seems no one is interested in the beautiful cut glass. So happy for you finding that beauty and using it in your home. I did find a pretty set of silver candlesticks recently. They were short and very tarnished but cleaned up beautifully. Google Lens showed me an identical set for $50. I think I paid $6 for the pair. They are on my dining room table!

I am quite certain you are hotter there in Alabama than we are in VT. I feel badly complaining, but we do not have a/c so it gets hard to find relief. I love crystal and glassware in general and, while I know it takes up space and can be cumbersome for some people, it breaks my heart to see it unappreciated. I'm so jealous of your silver candlesticks, what a great pickup for only $6! So glad you could give them new life and a new home! XO

This not uncommon here in Vermont to be without central air. There are window units in the upstairs bedrooms , but downstairs nothing. We hope to have a mini split installed soon 🙏❄️

Lucky you to find such a beautiful vase. I wondered what the ball shaped flower was in your vase. I often use hosta leaves for the greenery in my arrangements. Also wild fern that grows around my property. Loved touring the Ethan Allen property and gardens. T Y. We had a week of the same kind of weather here too, along the south shore of Lake Superior. Zone 4/5.
