At 2:43 it is the cammer who is in the wrong lane. The Highway Code is clear: enter the roundabout and stay on the inside lane if you are going straight ahead over the roundabout unless there are direction arrows to the contrary, which they're aren't

The direction sign shows the first exit as straight on for Falmouth and right for Treleigh industrial estate so cammer was not wrong. 2nd exit is very much a right on the map but the dash cam distorts the view.

@@JSmith19858 Find Treleigh industrial estate on a map and look at the roundabout sign on the A3047 with streetview; with a directional sign like that it's pretty obvious which lane to take so no arrows are needed.

When you get a wobble, you take your foot off the pedals and allow everything to slow down slowly. DO NOT BREAK, DO NOT ACCELLERATE. Maintain a strong grip on the wheel to counter the wobble. As everything slows down, the wobble will improve. If you attempt to speed up, not only will the wobble become worse, but you'll still have to slow down later. Once you've been able to recover the wobble, either maintain a slower speed, or pull over and adjust the weight of your trailer.

Try looking at that roundabout on a map or satellite view, the entrance to Treleigh Industrial Estate is a right hand turn, 3 O'clock on the road sign approaching the roundabout. "1st or 2nd exit uses lane 1" is in direct contradiction to the highway code which says "When taking an exit to the right [] approach in the right-hand lane." Your "rule" only works for well behaved four armed roundabouts, not three armed ones like this.

@hozzer68 Your assumption is incorrect. It's not a blanket rule that lane 1 can take 1st or 2nd exit. That is often correct, but not always. It mostly applies (like andy says) when there are 3 other exits, not 2 like in this case. The actual rule is that lane 1 must not go past the exit for "straight-on", and lane 2 can only go "straight-on" if there are 2 lanes on that exit, otherwise the earliest exit they can take is the one after "straight-on". I put "straight-on" in quotes, because it's often not straight, and is actually determined by the sign on the approach. It's normally the continuation of the road number which you are on, but if not then it's denoted on the sign as the thickest exit. In this case, we are on the A3047, and the 1st exit is also the A3047, so that's "straight-on", and is where the fiesta should have gone. They were in the wrong lane, and knew it, with how tentatively they were driving.

@@konradgreen2567The thickness of the arms on a directional sign is actually meant to reflect the importance of the road, so a fat line for a trunk road and a skinny one for a minor route. If you're on a B road crossing an A road at a roundabout straight on will be thin and left and right will be fatter. (DfT traffic signs manual chapter 7 5.2 Width of route arms). Apart from that you're 100% correct.

Look at Allen's Bespoke Joinery on a map, you can see exit 2 is a right turn. You must be pretty dangerous i you think first two exits use the left lane, what about roundabouts that only have 3 arms like this one? What about roundabouts that have 8 arms?

I was fooled by the dashcam view too, the direction sign on approach makes it obvious but we don't see that in the video; the fisheye view makes the 2nd exit look like straight on and we even see the other side of the dual carriageway as a 3rd "right turn" exit.

I'm guessing that they were together, since the car stopped with the "van", but the car immediately behind (in front of the cammer) in the 1:11 clip was far too close. And the clip starting 2:43, I was convinced it was going to be the flatbed, 'cos, y'know, he had an Audi on board. And at the 6:14 clip - "Only a fool breaks the 2 second rule" - public service ad from the 80s, and has stuck with me to this day. Shame they don't teach it now.

There used to be a very good video on KZbin about how to navigate a roundabout. Simply put, if straight on is shown as twelve o’cock, you use the left lane to enter the roundabout. After twelve you use the right hand lane, unless there are signs and/or paint telling you otherwise. From watching videos on this channel, nobody drives as if they know this. I was told this at work to pass a “driving test” to drive company vehicles and the KZbin video backed it up.

Bear in mind the fisheye of the dashcam can distort angles as well as distances. The clip at 2:43 shows this effect nicely. It looks like the offending car goes straight on but it's actually a right turn, 3 o'clock so they should have been in the right hand lane.

2:28 I live literally thirty seconds away from Porthill roundabout - it's a nightmare, and I gave up riding a bike because I was so fed up of dicing with death every time I crossed it. It desperately needs traffic lights and a lower speed limit - compared to similar sized roundabouts in Holland and other European countries, it's like something from the third world. i cant see anything that effected the van apart from him panicking about a cyclist that didnt pull out then getting angry at nothing. he stopped for nothing than raged in embarrassment as far as i can see, happens quite a bit actually, ppl go mad at you for cycling and stopping at a junction because they prejudged and then get angry for some reason. then the comment the cammer makes is toward the audi who seems ot want to push him out the way a bit
