I'm impressed at how quiet it is. And this from a Boeing fan.

The A350-XWB is super loud!
@Sacto16548 жыл бұрын
A major reason for its quietness is the fact the front fan--because of its size and the use of a special gearbox--turns at a much slower speed than most high-bypass engines. As such, the tips of the front fan blades spin below the speed of sound, so you don't get the "buzzsaw" sound effect you hear from many high-bypass engines.
@calvinrovinescu61668 жыл бұрын
The fan blades still exceed Mach 1, but not by as much as most engines. The gear might slow the fan a bit, but the primary purpose is to speed the N1 up and make it smaller.

So I took a ride on the A320neo for the first time and I can't believe how quiet the engines were. I was completely amazed by the sound difference!

Phantim3dx Not a pilot or engineer, just an aviation fan like yourself I am! A very good observation is made by some of you, I also noticed it on the B777, specially with GE power plants. I think, it's because these engines are quite larger than others, the center of gravity of the single engine dictates a more forward mounting on the wings! The second thing you noticed, was that how quite those new engines were on the A320neo, and yes I do agree and did notice that just like the RollsRoyce engines on the A380's. I also think, it is because of the larger diameter leading to a higher bypass ratio. Additionally I think RR, and CFM, design of the outer cowling is far more advanced than GE's. The reason why GE's powering the 747-8, 787s, and 777x has that "waved" outline cut of the back of the cowling, to disperse the high speed jet of air and reduce noise! Please, do reply to me and correct me, where necessary. As I said I'm an aviation fan learning by observation, curiosity, and a bit of reading! Thank you.

I once traveled on an Alaska Airline A321neo which used the CFM LEAP. The start up was incredibly loud with the same "Moo" heard on 77Ws. The takeoff and cruise was very quite though.

I flew on a Lufthansa A320 twice in one day - officially via my connection in Germany. However after a trek through the airport and security I got back into the same aircraft with the same can crew - I was even I the same seat (the same or one row forward from where this video was filmed). Definately, the engines are very much quieter, however, the lack of engine noise does make you notice all the rattles and creaks in the cabin!

This Pratt and Whittney is SO quiet! I say this is a huge success for Pratt and Whittney because on Boeing 737-200s, P&W made one of the noisest engines. I have to say the Airbus A320 (and A321) are (or should be) considered to be the neo whisper jet!
