Here, the man is at best asking Jesus to serve as a judge or divider/arbiter, as Jesus Himself replied. There is nothing about prayer here, less so anything divine. Jesus was approached like a tribe elder or as unto Moses to settle a dispute: Exodus 18:25-26: "25 And Moses chose able men out of all Israel, and made them heads over the people, rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens. 26 And they judged the people at all seasons: the hard causes they brought unto Moses, but every small matter they judged themselves." YOU = Hebrews 7:25: therefore He is able to save completely (or forever), those who come to God through Him (not a priest), because He ALWAYS lives to intercede for them. ME = However, we have still retained our Fallen Natures. And that is why Jesus - God and Judge - has given us the Sacraments of Confession and Holy Communion to tide us over when we sin. We can thus only ignore these at our peril. And it is vital to Love God and Neighbour as Commanded - not suggested - by Jesus CONFESSION ================= Because we are responsible for all sins after Baptism, Jesus on the very day of His Resurrection from the dead, breathed His Spirit and - empowered - all the Apostles to forgive - or retain - Sins - John 20:22-23. This breathing was the same as the Breath that gave the life-force to the earth-created Adam - Genesis 2:7. Therefore Catholics confess to their Priests, as Apostles don't live forever. Confession thus restores the Life-Force to souls deadened by sin, especially Deadly ( Mortal ) sins - James 5:16-17. Protestants don't confess and thereby retain their sins. HOLY COMMUNION =================== And because we still retain our Fallen Natures, Jesus has given us His Flesh to eat and Blood to drink as - Real Food and Drink - for Eternal Life - John 6:53-58. After all, we become what we eat and drink. And God wants us to be Spiritual People. Therefore, Paul cautions that we should partake of Holy Communion - worthily - 1 Corinthians 11:27. MASS ======= Acts 2:42 states that the 1st Christian community - devoted themselves to the teaching of the apostles, to the communal life, to the breaking of bread and to the prayers. Our Catholic Mass has originated from this, with readings from the Bible in place of the - long dead - Apostles' teachings LOVE OF GOD & NEIGHBOUR ============================== Because we don't love perfectly, Jesus urged us to - Strive - and make every effort to enter through the narrow gate - Luke 13:23-24. And He clarified in Matthew 7:13-14 that Few make it to Heaven whereas Many go to Hell. So if 5 to 10 are the Few of every 100 that make it to Heaven, whereas there are 20, 30 or 40 - the Many who go to Hell - where are the remaining? Obviously, in Purgatory. Question = Can you give even 1 example of a person who was saved by Jesus' intercession ? 2 Practical examples to examine FIRST = Let us examine the - Other - thief on the cross who was not promised paradise. Of all the people in the Bible, this unfortunate person was the most "lost." He was on his death-bed and was even then mocking the author of Life and only Saviour, Jesus who had previously declared =Luke 19:10 : “For the Son of Man has come to save that which was lost." So here was the most-desperate and prime candidate who required - Grace - the unmerited favour for salvation. Did Jesus save him and promise paradise???? (( NOTE = Catholics have a saying whereby we believe that God created us without our cooperation/aid, but will = not = save us without our cooperation and aid = that is without confession and Holy Communion.)) Scenario = A ( Christian ) person rages over ( pagan ) driver damaging his brand new car that he charges into him with all his might that the helpless person falls down badly, severely damaging his back and rendering him an invalid and bed-ridden for the rest of his life. Question - For whom is Jesus interceding with the Father for = the Christian - or - the pagan ??2nd Question - Does Jesus intercede for sinners/perpetrators/ Nine-Eleven Terrorists - or - their victims ?? SECOND = During World War 2, a Holocaust survivor, heard a young Jewish Rabbi who was being led to death loudly declare = There is no God. Both Hitler and Stalin were baptized. Yet they were two of the greatest mass-murderers of all time, not even sparing Rabbis Question - Do you believe that one day both Hitler and Stalin will be enjoying Heavenly bliss if Jesus has made propitiation for their sins ?? NOTE = In my dealings with other Protestants, I have noted that they are quick with " theoretical " verses from the Bible. However, we are urged to = test = all spirits. True Doctrine can = only = arise after examining how God worked in the lives of people. Take for example, the couple Ananias and Sapphira from the 1st = Faith = Christian community, who were "executed" by God for just dishonesty and lying, and this only a short time - after - Jesus' Heavenly ascent- Acts 5. What happened to Jesus' intercession. ?? Protestants also believe that Jesus' Blood wiped away all past, present and future sins. If this was the case, how come Sodom and Gomorrah have not been restored ? And God can see the past, present and future all at once because He is outside time. So why did God permit the 70 year Babylonian exile, if Jesus was going to pay their sin debt ? Or the Roman destruction of Jerusalem in 70 AD? And if I rob you of your house and property, will God welcome me into Heaven as - Good and Faithful servant - and proceed to give me the best mansion there ?

@@loboman8029 that's the thing though with this infused righteousness by faith because it leads you into the error that by performing all of the sacraments it is thus saving me from the sin that I have in my life. Why do you think that Roman Catholicism has so many festivals? I think it leads its credence into the fact that they believe in original sin and the total depravity of man rather than seeing that through Adam we have a weakened physiology. This is the problem with most western theology that has come about through the augustinian doctrine of original sin and all the fallout that has come with it such as satisfaction theory of Christ's redemptive work as well as the penal substitutionary varying theory of that redemptive work. You do realize that Augustine himself was not able to read Hebrew or Greek and therefore when he read the Bible in Latin the word concupiscence has a much darker meaning than what is often taught in Eastern Orthodox circles. Also the idea that sin is a debt came from the Anselmian construct that the wrong committed was an equal measure to the offended status of the sovereign; this belief then makes papists and Protestants anthropomorphize God.

Jesus is the Church. There is no salvation outside of Jesus. "And he is the head of the body, the Church [ἐκκλησίας] (Colossians 1:18)." L Footie So you believe in what Calvin taught which is basically that some people go to heaven and others go to hell and are predestined before they are even born. Because if it is by God’s doing alone there is nothing humans can do to get to heaven. So whether they believe in Jesus and never do anything else the rest of their lives that is it a ticket to heaven. So no matter how bad or good you are it will not effect your salvation and that nature and grace do not work together. Because if they do not work together this is basically saying that every thing both good and bad is ultimately in God’s hands even your ability to believe. So this means that free will on the human side is null and void. But Calvinism says this very thing by it’s theology nature and grace do not work together because everything depends on God and nothing on the human side. So there is no free will.

FaithHopeGrace The Catholic Churches official teachings say there is a hell. As we both know there are certain clergy that do not always abide by the teachings of their denominations. Just know that as a child of God I am bound by two great commandments that Christ taught love God with your whole heart and soul and love your neighbor as yourself. This Jesus says it what is necessary. As a sister in Christ I do not really wish to quibble with fellow Christian. My main concern is to get the truth out there on what Catholicism really teaches not the false innuendos put out by non Catholics who do not know the teachings of the church that is my main point. One for instance is we do not worship saints it is forbidden. We are forbidden to worship Mary because worship is due to God alone, we honor the mother of Jesus but not worship. So many people get it wrong. If you want to really know the official stance on the Catholic Church please read an official Cathechism of the Church. This will clarify any misconceptions there are in the teachings. Just as some Protestants do infant baptism others do not. I do not lump all Protestants into the same group. Yes there are married Catholic priests the western rite does not allow it but the Eastern rite does. Just a small example of one of the misconceptions among many others. May God richly bless you.🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

@@Jesus.Is.Coming.Back1 I’m a current Protestant heavily considering joining the Catholic Church. I believe after actually reading the Word of God, it points to Catholicism and their doctrine MUCH more than any Protestant theology. Reading about the salvific power of Holy Baptism was the initial turning point, and then justification, the Eucharist, Church Fathers, history, etc made me realize I need to convert. God’s divine revelation was revealed through word of mouth and tradition, not just the Bible. Sola Scriptura cannot be true. Even though the Bible is inerrant. And I used to despise Roman Catholics. But I simply did not understand what they actually believed. Truly understanding their theology is leading me to them. And I thank God for opening my eyes to the truth. Please find a Traditional Catholic Church near you. Preferably an Sspx chapel where you will learn the true teachings of The Church. Be careful of getting yourself confused by Protestant teachings. Remember for the first 3 to 4 hundred years there was no Christian Bible. It was The Catholics who decided which books were to go into the New Testament. Everything was taught by word of mouth. Once the New Testament was decided upon, there were only a few hand copied Bibles available. It was the priests and monasteries that kept these books and perhaps some of the very wealthy who owned bibles. Very few people could read and write and it was only when the printing press came into being that bibles became more available. Then Martin Luther came onto the scene and removed several books which didn't agree with his new doctrines. Since then there have been many, many interpretations to the bible, subtly changing the original teachings. Do yourself a favor. Order "Where we got The Bible" written by RT. Rev. Henry G. Graham published by TAN books. ISBN 978-0-89555-796-4. Do not believe all the lies that the Protestants spew out. Jesus only started One Church. How many Christian churches are there today? Over 40 000. They all teach something different! They cannot all be right. The Catholic Church is going through a terrible time presently but Christ assured us that Satan would never prevail. That is why I tell you to seek out a Tradition Catholic Church where you will be taught the true teachings passed from Jesus, to Peter and down from every Pope until Pope Pius Xll, after which we had the Second Vatican Council which has subtly tried to change church teaching, without anyone noticing, thus leading The Catholic Church into Apostacy. Since then the enemy has gained power over the hierarchy. Our Lady of Fatima assured us that Her Immaculate Heart would Triumph in the end. The Virgin Mary always leads you to her son. She is never worshiped, but honoured. At Fatima The Virgin said " That God wishes to establish in the world devotion to my Immaculate Heart." To prove that the Apparitions of Fatima were real, God performed a miracle of Biblical proportions. On the 13 October, 1917, 70000 people witnessed the Sun leaving its orbit. It gyrated made circles in the sky, gave off many different colours, it plummeted to the earth. It did things that only God could do. Satan does not have the power to change the laws of Nature. Only God has those powers. God wants us to honour Jesus's mother. God bless and go back to your faith. (The precious pearl.) There is no other way for you to save your soul. You need the 7 sacraments, you need Christs Church. You cannot save your soul alone.

I don't understand the seeming antibody reaction mainstream Evangelicals have against the rituals of God under the New Covenant. Whether it's baptism or the Lord's Supper, Evangelicals take what the Apostles say about these rituals and effectively nullify the teaching. I believe they do this because of their hatred for Catholicism. Well, I hate Catholicism too but I'[m not going to abandon God's word because of my hatred of evil.
@gwilson31414 күн бұрын
You skipped vs. 63 for some reason: "It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh is no help at all. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life." Of course, even if you accepted that Jesus was referring to the Lord's Supper/Communion/Eucharist (which hadn't been established), instead of the immediate context which was the miracle of the feeding of the 5,000 with the 5 loaves and 2 fish, you still don't get the doctrine of transubstantiation from it. Why does a priest need to be present to bless the bread/cup to turn it into Jesus' actual flesh and blood? There's no biblical basis for this, in fact the Bible (1 Peter 2, written by the guy Catholics claim as the first 'pope') refers to the general priesthood of believers who offer spiritual sacrifices, not just a specific few who offer physical ones.
@GizmoFromPizmo14 күн бұрын
@@gwilson314 - It is true that "transubstantiation" is an unbiblical and unnecessary doctrine, the fact that John makes certain statements in his gospel is due to his VERY Christian agenda. John's Jesus is BY FAR the most "Christian" of the four gospels. John 1 establishes in the most straightforward way, the divinity of Christ ("And the Word WAS GOD"). There's no mistaking the Christian theology (Jehovah's Witnesses notwithstanding). John 3 is OBVIOUSLY a reference to Christian baptism (born of water and the Spirit). This reality didn't exists until after Jesus' resurrection (see Acts 2:38). John 6 is an obvious reference to the Lord's Supper, which all Christian churches were engaging in by the late first century (which is when the Gospel of John was written). When you compile the Christian teaching about the Lord's Supper, you MUST confess that the bread and wine are the body and blood of Jesus. Why? Because Jesus said, "This IS my body" and "This IS my blood". He didn't say, "This REPRESENTS my body". Okay? This is where we are led. The word of God constrains us. If the King says, "This is my body" then guess what our confession must be? "This is your body, Jesus." We don't go against what the King says, right? That's just stupid. Why would we do that? Because we hate Catholics??? That's not a good reason. This is what it means to have the "obedience of faith". We believe what God says about a thing. Do we believe that baptism saves us? YES! Why? Is it because Billy Graham said it? NO! It's because that's what the Apostle Peter said about it (see 1 Peter 3:21). The apostles were charged with "teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you." "By FAITH, Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain." (See Heb. 11:4) Both Cain and Abel were offering sacrifice to God - they were both obeying - but Abel was offering his sacrifice in faith. In other words, he believed something about what he was doing that Cain denied. Cain was just going through the motions for God. His perfunctory religion doomed him, whereas, Abel's obedience of faith is held up as and eternal example of how to do service to God. Hebrews 11:4 could be the subject of a very good sermon. It's just too bad that no denomination on earth practices or even reads the Book of Hebrews. It's a pretty good book on Christian theology. I recommend it. But in the final analysis, the bread and wine are the body and blood of Jesus. We don't need a magician in a robe to turn it into the body and blood of Jesus, all we need is faith that what God has promised, He is able also to perform. When that is our faith THEN God counts us righteous. (I promise you, if you take that teaching to your church, they will throw you out on your ear.)

@@gwilson314Well hold on, you say the immediate context of the passage is the feeding of the 5000, which is true, but you’re oversimplifying the contextual point that Jesus is now teaching the crowds after performing the miracle. I’m not sure how you could mental-gymnastics yourself out of interpreting this passage as Jesus teaching Eucharistic theology, because of a few points: 1.) Jesus very clearly claims to be the new manna, the bread that God sent the Israelites so that they could eat, such as when he says, “I am the bread of life. Your ancestors ate the manna in the wilderness, yet they died. Here is the bread that comes down from Heaven…” 2.) You may say, as I used to also when I was a Protestant, that this is him referring to himself as a “spiritual” bread of life, such that the living Word nourishes our bodies, but this also makes no sense because of the crowd’s response to his teaching and Jesus’s insistence: “(52)Then the Jews began to argue sharply among themselves, ‘How can this man GIVE US HIS FLESH to eat?’… (53)UNLESS YOU EAT THE FLESH OF THE SON OF MAN AND DRINK HIS BLOOD, you have no life in you. … (55)For my FLESH IS REAL FOOD and my BLOOD IS REAL DRINK. … (60)On hearing it, many of his disciples said, ‘This is a hard teaching. Who can accept it?’” Sorry for the long quote, but I just don’t see how you can interpret this passage as Jesus speaking figuratively, since he repeatedly doubles-down on the claim that it’s quite literal. How do you reconcile this when reading the full text, not just cherry picking the verses you want to hear like you accused the other commenter of doing?

'ONLY GOD CAN FORGIVE SIN'. Jesus never says He has the power to forgive Sin. Jesus OVERCAME sin and death, so that we can be forgiven of our sins by God through the life and death of Jesus Christ. If Jesus never said that He Himself forgave Sin directly, why would you assume in John 20:23 that Jesus is passing on that power to humans? I Peter says this in Acts 10 “Everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.” Read John 20:21-22. Jesus tells us that He is sending the Apostles just like God the Father Sent Him. To do what? To share the Great News so that those that believe in Jesus, will have their sins forgiven by God. Jesus also warns that those that do not receive the good news, their sins would not be forgiven. The Apostles did not have the 'power' to forgive sin. They did have the power in the Holy Spirit to spread the Word of God, the Gospel of Jesus, so through Jesus, people can be forgiven of their Sin. The power in that is in Jesus, not in humans. That is really crazy that you have the entire Gospel and New Testament, and you are 'not aware' of him providing any other 'normal way' to have ones' sins forgiven after His ascension to Heaven. Please go to the Word of God. Here is Jesus Himself speaking on how people can get their sins Forgiven. There are so many verses here and more than happy to unpack if you have specific follow ups. But here is one below, that makes it clear, God is the one who has the power to Forgive, and through Jesus, people can be forgiven of their sins, Colossians 2:13-14 13 aAnd you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God bmade alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, 14 by ccanceling dthe record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. The word Catholic means universal. The early use of the word does not refer to what we know today as the Roman Catholic Church. The universality of Christianity was especially emphasized first by Jesus and later by both Paul and Peter. The Roman Empire legally recognized Pauline Christianity as a valid religion in 313 AD. Later in that century, in 380 AD, Roman Catholicism became the official religion of the Roman Empire. For many years, Catholics were the only people officially recognized as Christians, yet all along there were independent Christian movements. Two movements that became significant were Eastern Orthodoxy and the Protestant reform movement.
@userca_7 ай бұрын
Actually, the first known usage of the word to describe Christianity is this, from St. Ignatius of Antioch in AD108 : "Wherever the bishop shall appear, there let the multitude [of the people] also be; even as, wherever Jesus Christ is, there is the Catholic Church." Later on he writes: "In like manner, let us reverence the deacons as Jesus Christ, and the bishop as the Father, and the presbyters as the Sanhedrin of God and college of the apostles. Without these, there is no Church." 2 things to notice: 1. The way you can find the Catholic Church is by looking for the bishop (i.e. it is a visible organization, not just a "spiritual union") 2. This Catholic Church also has priests (and therefore has sacrifice). 3. Jesus Christ is found only in the Catholic Church and therefore is found only where the bishop is. 4. If you remove this leadership structure (bishop, priest, deacon), you are getting rid of the Catholic Church itself. The literal translation does mean universal, but from Day 1 it has been applied to a specific church with specific leadership. Does it sound like Ignatius is describing your church? If not, might be an issue. . .

It's kinda like rabid sports fans that will defend "their" team and act as if "their" team is the best there is, even if they lose every game they play. One of the biggest red flags is when they claim that the Catholic church is "the one true church". The church is not what's important. Jesus Christ and His teaching are what's important. The church of Jesus Christ is not a physical one of goliath worldly riches and power. It's a church of the spirit, uniting all believers.

@@timhadaway9093 Catholics don't "worship communion" and we don't "worship Mary". Either Mike is deliberately being misleading or he's egregiously misinformed. edit: the one thing the Catholic and orthodox church has over other churches is that whoever is actually doing the communion has to have received the Holy Spirit in order for it to actually work. If the lineage of Holy Spirit receivers is broken at some point for whatever reason the whole thing fails. Also if you haven't received the Holy Spirit yet partake in communion, Jesus says that's a no. Given that Mike has gone to lengths to discard the idea of Baptism of water there is a good chance that a whole bunch of people who think they were baptised actually haven't been. Mother Mary was obviously a great woman but she and the rest of the dead "have no more reward under the sun" (earth) as the Bible puts it. I find that in 1854 it was decided that mother Mary was immaculately conceived. You talk about who decides this or that and I say a great Holy and all powerful God gave us a road map to heaven written in the old and new testaments and when we add to it or take away from it we are no longer following Gods original plan. 1 Timothy 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.... If you read the Bible you will understand....of course we are given grace, we don't earn it but Jesus left us with plenty of work to do and if we are to call ourselves Christian that work is EXPECTED of us not once in awhile when we have some free time, not on Sundays or around the Holidays but everyday, all the time and yes by doing these things we make God happy. It takes work...lots of work. Constantly having to turn your focus back to God. Whew... that's a lot of work. That's what us Catholics mean by grace with works. If you think you don't have to work at it then you are probably not working at it. Things such as repent...turn your life around to focus on Jesus, work to spread his word and win the hearts and minds of others, if someone mocks your faith be glad, turn the other cheek, forgive those who have wronged you, give to the needy, be friendly with the outcast, don't store up treasures on Earth, humble yourself, stay married, don't judge, keep his commandments, don't lie, confess your sins outloud (you think that is easy...we are taught God knows everything, if there is someone wrong you have done but you can't bring yourself to admit it then it festers in your soul bringing about a decay. That is really hard work.

@@fogstreet108 As Catholics, we do agree that the Word of God is indeed the truth. However, people have their own interpretations of the Word of God, and as such have contradicting views. You need to know what Jesus and the Apostles meant by what they said in the Bible, then you'll see what the truth is in the Word of God. It's no efficient enough learning the Word of God by yourself. Jesus appointed people to carry on His teaching, and these people themselves appointed other people to pass on the teachings/traditions that they've taught. Find that truth that is passed down from generation to generation, then you can truly say that the Word of God is indeed always right. Because we know for sure that these apostles are indeed born of God, and trusted people to pass down the teachings, which would also mean they are born of God who understand the things of God. @@fogstreet108 Well if you say that you are, then please use it wisely and evangelize right. Teach others about who Jesus is, but don't condemn or mock the Church that Jesus established (and I can rightfully say that so), especially when you perceive it with numerous misconceptions. As you quote Ephesians, indeed everyone are included in this priesthood. If we are truly Christian, we are indeed in this priesthood. Evangelize for unity, not division. One Lord, one faith, one baptism. Don't mock the Church that does that (not even giving an example, even just one, which makes your statement foolish and nonsensical), evangelization, unity, charity, and faith in Jesus Christ. It's indeed God's grace that gave us these gifts. It's not primarily our faith that gave us these gifts, but rather God's grace. However, there is also a physical church that holds the real deposit of faith that Jesus and the Apostles left for the world. The Bible isn't the only deposit of faith, nor is it the sole protector of truth. The protector of truth is the "organization" that you are talking about. Instead of mocking us with misconceptions, or belittling us, focus more on yourself and how you, a Christian, can spread the Gospel through faith, hope, and charity. Clearly, everyone of us, including you, need much learning and prayers. I'll be praying for you, as I hope you pray for me too.

Who’s sins you forgive they are forgiven who sins you retain they are retained John20:23
@landonbudke19413 жыл бұрын
This passage deals with the apostolic office. Parallel passages in Matthew suggest the same thing (Mt 16:19; 18:18). This was a special function the apostles had between the resurrection and ascension of Christ. 23 If you forgive the sins of any [of any class], Jesus did not give the apostles the inherent right to forgive sins but the privilege to convey the message of forgiveness. Ministers of the gospel cannot forgive sins but simply proclaim how sins are forgiven. The word “any” indicates that the sins forgiven are forgiven to a class of people, not to individuals (Lu 24:46-48). they [the sins] are forgiven them; The words “are forgiven” indicate that this is an event that had already taken place by God (passive voice). The apostles could proclaim sins previously forgiven. if you retain the sins of any, they [the sins] are retained.” The words “are retained” indicate that this is an event that had already taken place by God (passive voice, perfect tense). Sins previously committed have been retained. Both “forgiven” and “retained” are in the passive voice in the Greek, which means that it is God who forgives and retains. God alone forgives sin (Mk 2:3-12; Lu 5:17-26). The Greek tenses (periphrastic future perfects) indicate that forgiveness was already resolved by the death of Christ on the cross. The right of the apostles to forgive or retain depends on the previous forgiveness by God. All that remains is to proclaim that Christ paid for our sins. We could translate the phrases this way: “Those sins you forgive have already been forgiven…those sins you do not forgive have not been forgiven.” In other words, forgiveness is dependent on God’s forgiveness. The issue of forgiveness and retention of sins is related to the binding and loosing of Matthew 16:18; 18:18.

The justification I’ve always heard for confession to a priest is John 20:21-23, which says, "21 Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send | you. 22 And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost: 23 Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them: and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained." Can this be interpreted any other way?

I've heard Protestants try to explain it as a one-time thing that was never intended to be passed on, but I'm not sure why that would make any sense if people could just confess directly to God. The Bible never tells us to confess directly to God. But it does show us Jesus giving the apostles the authority to forgive sins.
@Michael-nb4ng2 жыл бұрын
Great question !!!
@adamjackson86642 жыл бұрын
It's pretty simple. Catholic theology is all in the bible it's just looked over or explained away. Not sure why protestants spend so much time trying to attack the church. John said "if we confess our sins he is faithful and just to forgive our sins. In acts 19 when the people using curious arts came to believe they. v18 "came and CONFESSED and SHOWED THIER DEEDS" all caps for emphasis. They confessed either they believe or ther sins or both. Likely both considering the wording "showed thier deeds". During the time of John the Baptist before Christ launched his public ministry it says in mat 3:6 they came and were baptized of John confessing thier sins... not confessing they were a sinner but thier sins.... to whome? It doesn't say but likely John. Which is also a scene to ponder considering baptism wasn't a part of any scripture that they held then. No one asked him where this is in the Torah this isn't how we get forgiveness. How strange.... but wait there's more. Paul said this in 2 Cor concerning a brother who had sinned 2 Corinthians 2:10-11 To whom ye forgive any thing, I forgive also: for if I forgave any thing, to whom I forgave it, for your sakes forgave I it in the person of Christ; "In the person of Christ" which is the whole point of confession. Yes of course we confess to God but we also confess to our confessor who acts "in persona christi" in the person of Christ.

what about this passage? The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ? 1 Corinthians 10:16
@bufficliff89784 жыл бұрын
“Therefore, my dear friends flee from idolatry. I speak to sensible people; judge for yourselves what I say. Is not the cup of thanksgiving for which we give thanks a participation in the blood of Christ? And is not the bread that we break a participation in the body of Christ? Because there is one loaf, we, who are many, are one body, for we all share the one loaf. Consider the people of Israel: Do not those who eat the sacrifices participate in the altar? Do I mean then that food sacrificed to an idol is anything, or that an idol is anything? No, but the sacrifices of pagans are offered to demons, not to God, and I do not want you to be participants with demons. You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons too; you cannot have a part in both the Lord’s table and the table of demons.Are we trying to arouse the Lord’s jealousy? Are we stronger than he?” The passage in context is talking to people who take the Eucharist AND eat and drink the runoff from demonic sacrifices. He’s making a case for the exclusive taking of the Eucharist; he’s not making a case that it’s he literal body and blood. He makes it clear that the bread and wine are representations of Jesus by (in the previous passage) relating it to the mana and water from the stone while the Israelites were wandering in the wilderness and by making the parallel that we all eat from one single loaf of bread because we are the one physical-spiritual body of Christ on earth. The reason he highlights that here is because he’s trying to make clear that they can’t be embracing the fullness of relationship in Christ if they’re simultaneously enjoying the worship of demons. He’s leading them through the thought of being unable to separate from the body of Christ and thus not being able to partake in the worship of idols, which are demons. So it was a strong question to ask, but the passage is talking about not mixing the worship of Christ and the worship of demons, that you can’t celebrate both, that it’s incongruent. I hope Mike sees this and answers your question. He has open Q&A on Fridays; I’d really love it if you’d pop in and ask this. Those were just my thoughts after reading the passage for myself. And if you don’t mind I’d love to ask him in a Friday Q&A too to double the chances of it being seen.

@smith western It's not a Sola Scriptura problem. It's an Aquinian problem. The Romans solve it through Aquinian transubstantiation, while the Calvinists and Radical Reformed solve it by rationalizing it as purely spiritual or symbolic. A strict adherence to sola scriptura takes "This is my body" and "This is my blood" and the words of Paul in Corinthians and responds with, "In Scripture Jesus says its his body and blood and Paul backs that up. Speculation as to how or what is beyond us, the Eucharist is a Mystery, but we trust Scripture to be true."

this guy is so wrong in his theology. Clearly, Jesus at the last supper commanded his disciples to “do this in memory of me, for it is my body and blood which will be given up for you“ in another sermon, Jesus stood before a group of believers and said “ you must eat my flesh and drink my blood or you will not have everlasting life. These are Jesus words not mine. There was a group that did not agree with what Jesus said, and they questioned him by saying, “Jesus, do you really expect us to eat your flesh and drink your blood?“. Jesus replied “verily verily I say to you, unless you Eat my flesh and drink my blood, you cannot have everlasting life”. So that part of the group left bewildered. The ones that stayed went to Jesus and Jesus said “are you going to leave too? said where else can we go? forgive me for not remembering which verse in the Bible but I do know I’ve read it many times. All Jesus was saying was that he wanted to be remembered through an unbloody Ritual. God has the power to show himself anyway he chooses. He can show himself as a tree, a toad, a car, God can show himself in any way he chooses he’s omniscient. If he so chooses to show himself and become a Eucharist in church, then so be it.

Biblical fact of the day- At the beginning of the Protestant uprising circa 1520, Martin Luther did not like the construction of Romans 3:28 as it was originally written, eg “for man is justified by faith apart from the ‘works of the law’ “ So he simply added the word “alone” after the word faith So the passage would read “man is saved by faith ALONE apart from the ‘works of the law’ “ As confirmed recently by the Dead Sea Scrolls, the works of the law refers to Jewish customs such as cleansing rituals, circumcision, etc. They clearly do not refer to the keeping of the 10 Commandments, etc by which every Christian remains bound. That is to say we are bound to produce good works and to produce good fruit. Cf Matt 25, in fact we will be judged by our works as concurred by the book of James. So the revolution launched by Luther and Calvin now developed a new novel teaching, known as “justification by faith ALONE”, which was sadly a false Rewriting of holy Scriptures. When questioned by others as to why Luther would change the Bible to justify his novel doctrine, he said, “because Dr. Luther says it is so”.

It is excluded. Because of what law? The law that requires works? No, because of the law that requires faith. 28 For we maintain that a person is justified by faith apart from the works of the law. 29 Or is God the God of Jews only? Is he not the God of Gentiles too? Yes, of Gentiles too, 30 since there is only one God, who will justify the circumcised by faith and the uncircumcised through that same faith. 31 Do we, then, nullify the law by this faith? Theophagy! Theophagy means "god eating", and it refers to the practice of ritually eating what the eater believes to be the flesh of a deity. The practice is believed to have derived from earlier forms of ritual cannibalism, in which the descendants of a deceased person would ritually eat parts of the body of the deceased, so that the "spirit" and qualities of former generations could be passed on to the following ones. Types of theophagy. Notable theophagic religions: Catholic Church - When in the Catholic Mass the priest consecrates ritual bread and wine on the altar of a church, a miracle is considered to take place, called transubstantiation, in which the bread and wine (Eucharist) are mystically transformed into the body and blood of Jesus Christ, which is then consumed. Only Catholics who have confessed all "mortal sins" committed are permitted to partake (though some ignore this). If you go forward to the communion rail to receive, eating the Eucharist is required; you mustn’t simply walk out with the host and not get round to eating it. Desecrating the Eucharist carries the penalty of excommunication. Most Protestant denominations believe the Last Supper was to be taken symbolically. While many moderate Catholics also consider transubstantiation to be symbolic, the Catholic Church insists that it is literal. Of course the Church angrily denies that this sacrament amounts to cannibalism, while at the same time effectively insisting that it does. It seems that Rome also works in mysterious ways. Cthulhu - When stars align properly, elder gods eat you. (If you hold your mouth right, you may be among the first to be eaten.[1]) So yes, in Soviet Russia Cthulhu religion, god eats you! Lakota - (Native American plains tribe, one of the Sioux Nation) The Sioux in general believed they eat the spirit of the animal when they eat its flesh, generating many formal and 'daily' or 'casual' rituals and traditions to show respect to the dead ancestor spirit. Salish - (a northwestern coastal Native American tribe) The Salish believe the salmon is a god, as is the deer, and they must return the bones to the water to not bring harm to the family for eating the god. Mexica (Aztecs) - famous for their ritual sacrifices, they would often kill a man wearing a costume of a particular god. They ate his heart, thus eating the god. They also thought that eating a respected enemy would endow them with the powers of that enemy's god. Flying Spaghetti Monster - their god is not technically eaten by the followers; it's just that their god is naturally "edible" without any of that transubstantiation ……..ha ha!

The problem all Catholics have is they do not understand John 6. They cherry-pick a few verses and discard the rest, mainly because that is what they are told by their religion. When you read the whole of what is going on you can clearly see that this eating and drinking is symbolic, not literal. Verse 63 should be the whistle to your understanding " The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you-they are full of the Spirit[a] and life". Jesus is talking spiritually here not literally. He is using an event and people's wants to show that you must take all of Jesus spiritually to change your life literally. I have been to many mass and Never have I seen the people drink wine. You are not doing what you claim Jesus said you to do. Basically the Catholic Church says, 'We are the authority'! Just ask us. That is not the message of scriptures but like anyone that is controlled you follow blindly.

The problem with Protestants is that they argue with a bible that was put together by the Catholic Church about 300 AD. The second problem with Protestants is that they get to decide when to apply symbolism even though Jesus is telling us to explicitly do something. I choose to believe in Jesus, if he is telling me to do something John 6:54-55, I will do that and not what a “Pastor” tells me. Once you believe that you’re eating the flesh and drinking the blood of Jesus then “it is the spirit who gives life. ….” as you said, which is true since it’s in the Bible. And you fall in the category of those who don’t believe, just like the majority of his followers decided not to believe when they heard this John 6: 65-67. There’s many other readings outside of John that point to the same things.

Scriptures tells us this. The representation you follow is unnecessary. Unless Jesus does not live in you. So if Jesus lives in you and you are his temple why do you need to eat him since he lives in you? Perhaps Jesus does not live in Catholics and they have to fool themselves by eating Jesus. Yes the Cahtolic church has flaws, Yes we have a crisis rn. The boom around homosexual priest and child molester is horrible. and I´m truly parying for those victims of such horrible act, I´m also praying for those priests, sicne their sins caused such trauma. but you could at least understand that everyone is sinful. that doesn=t justify any of the horrible acts some piests did, they should at least no longer be priests if not straightly sitting in jail. that is my Catholic view on this. But you need to realise that Catholic church isn´t ONLY bad as the media portrays it. Do you know how many charities Catholic Church owns? It owns the biggest number of Charisties, organizations and helping centres. do your research and know the article from both sides, not only from one, the protestant or anti-catholic side. Thank you for your time.

As a young adult I discovered spirituality vs religion -- I was raised in a Catholic home, attended catechism classes, and the rituals. I finally found truth through scripture and other christian friends. I thought Jehovah and his Son distant and untouchable. Through my spiritual journey I came to find spirituality. I absolutely love the clarity of Romans 8:14-18. IF we have truly surrendered/ committed through faith ,we ARE HEIRS of Jehovah, CO-HEIRS WITH Christ. What an amazing gift Thank you Jehovah

Great job. Raised Catholic. Went to Catholic school, K-12. It took a while, but the time came when I had to decide, should I believe the Bible, or should I believe the traditional teachings of the Catholic Church? I'll give you an example. After reading where Jesus said, "call no man father upon the earth," I found it impossible to call a priest, "Father." That is a small thing compared to the kinds of problems talked about here, but you get my drift.

If the Catholic Church that Jesus founded cannot claim authority to teach God's truth, then you, 2000 years later, can't claim it. But you know more than anyone for the past 2000 years. Somehow, the likes of Saint Thomas Aquinas, Saint Augustine, Saint Paul, got it wrong, and all the early Christian martyrs--well, they died in vain for a false Catholic Church. In all charity, have some humble perspective. Whatever argument you are making is flawed; I could not listen past the first 20 seconds.

@@KM-zn3lx Hi. The Constantine theory is an illogical myth. You can find documents predating Constantine by 250+ years, all of which show the early Christian Church as being Catholic - including venerating the saints, venerating Our Lady, believing in the Real Presence of Jesus in the Eucharist, praying for the dead, and accepting the primacy of Peter and Rome. Constantine didn't found a religion. He merely allowed freedom of faiths and thus stopped Christian persecution.

@FaithHopeGrace Documents from the early Church Fathers who were disciples of the 12 Apostles, and who occupied apostolic seats of authority in the Church following their deaths: Ignatius of Antioch, Polycarp, Pope Clement I, Tertullian, Origen, Eusebius, Athanasius, Jerome, etc - all from the 1st century onwards. They believed in the transubstantiation, prayed for the souls in Purgatory, asked for the intercession of the saints, accepted the primacy of St Peter and the Popes, and said the Mass on Sundays just like modern Catholics. Peter de Rosa doesn't say anything about Constantine founding Catholicism so I'm not sure what you want me to see there.

Best way to learn what the bible says is read the Church Fathers, they are undoubtebly Catholic, they may dissagree on certian things, 3 that are unanimously agreed on is; the Eucharist being the literal Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity. Mary being “Pure Evervirgin” (pure being sinless at that time), and faith and works, the faith which you are saved by (justification) being baptsim, ephesians 2:8-9. And AFTER initial justification we all need to work to maintain our salvation (Jesus talks about this alot, we now today understand this as repentance, IE confession). Dont take my word for this either, read what they fathers said

@Blue Butteryfly Cannibalism seems to have been a common practice among most per-historic cultures (and some more recent) and was later replaced with animal sacrifice and then bare ritual. One anthropological perspective on this practice is that it reflected a common, and perhaps universal, aspect of human consciousness. It was, apart from any value judgments, a manifest display of shared awareness both of consumption and dependence. This kernel of truth of a shared consciousness is overshadowed by the cruel and unhealthy physical practice which has been universally, and justly, abandoned in modern times. Thus we easily loose touch with that ancient insight from our current perspective. We have, as they say, thrown out the baby and the bath water altogether. The Catholic Mass, aside from its many theological complexities, is at minimum an un-bloody ritualized recognition of this shared consciousness that our very existence is a perpetual act of consumption and that we are dependent upon all that has gone before us.
@andrewferg87373 жыл бұрын
@Blue Butteryfly It seems there is a fundamental disconnect in understanding the term sacrifice. Christianity at its most fundamental level makes a visceral and startling claim about the nature of reality: that God became a real flesh and bones human being. This reality extends into all aspects of the Christian faith; which demands that faith must real and tangible and not vain hypocrisy, that love must be in deed and not word only---- and that we consume in deed and not only symbolically the divine life of Christ, the Word made flesh. Sacrifice without substance is vanity and hypocrisy, this is true of our small personal sacrifices and is true of God's ultimate sacrifice. Does Christ feel pain?... indeed Christ is crucified every day.
@andrewferg87373 жыл бұрын
@Blue Butteryfly Do you not consume God at every instant by your very existence? It is our sin which makes that consumption bloody and painful. God continually pours forth His very life even to us, His fallen and rebellious children. But it is Man that invented crucifixion.
