Great tips but how do I release the suction on the silver cap so I can lift the cap up in the first place? Recently it seems to have suction sealing it tight. I try and clean this out weekly to keep it clean 😊

Thank you for this! I just moved from the states to overseas and this helped out so much. But when I took it apart, there was still water sitting at the bottom. Does that mean it’s clogged deeper down?

Hey thanks for the video could I ask a question please as we have just purchased a new build. So there should always be standing water sat in the shower drain. That is normal? Also with this shower trap does that mean we don’t need to use a hair stopper shower drain?

I have a ‘wirquin twisto’ trap, supposed to be self cleaning but isn’t doing much of that. Don’t think there is a filter to remove what would you suggest?

Same here. Also have the "Twisto". Loves to collect hair. We started cleaning ours with vinegar once a week and that helped with the standing water smell.

How does yours lift out so easily? My chrome shower cap is the same as yours and I have to lift and twist until it finally pops up with a force.

May just be a bit welded in with limescale or some caps locate into a slot and then twist - like a bayonet light bulb fitting.

@Lester Bathrooms I'm not sure. Cos I always just place it back in when I'm done and it just goes in, I don't have to twist it or slot into slots. But then when I next go to take it out , it's like there's a lot of suction keeping it down

@Lunchbox World I just kept doing what you do until it started to crack. After this , I ordered a new one from amazon and it's really good. Now it just lifts straight off. I'd say that could be the answer. Maybe we just had a particular one and a replacement is the way to go. Also maybe I was leaving it too long between lifting it up. This new one every now and again I lift up just to check it's not getting stuck. Beforehand I only lifted it once the water wasn't draining away.

Just apply pressure and twist and eventually it will pop off. It isn't ideal , but that was the only way I did it. Be sure there's nothing behind you cos when it pops up eventually, you will fall back a few stops. Almost comical.

There is good drainage in my shower drain, toilet and sink but there is an awful smell in the bathroom like seaweed, syrup and detergent -what could this be? Very pungent smell infiltrating the hosue unless i shut the door then it builds up to be overpowering . It isnt a gas smell and not entirely like faeces-more musky.

If you have a pressure washer take the components outside to blow away the gunge. Obviously you shouldn't do that with the small screw!

Traps are worst invention ever. I remember a slight s bend on bath . It emptied rapidly and never blocked

Round where i live the plumbers (if you can find one) will scratch the back of their heads, suck in thru their teeth, and -Well, i can do it but sorry it aint gonna be small job Im afraid. Probably alf a day. Undred quid. Plus vat.

@@Londonfogey I fitted a rad and more than recouped the cost of the tools in one job. People panic and look for a plumber for stupid jobs like a leaky collar at the back of the bog. You can learn anything on youtube.

Please please I know all this very basic stuff but it’s not enough to clear the drain. Still clears but very slowly. Must be further along the pipe. BIG QUESTION HOW DO YOU CLEAN THIS PIPE FURTHER ALONG. NO KZbin DOES A HELP VIDEO ON IT 🤢🤢🤢 Stephen

Basically, you have to get something along the pipe to the blockage. You can get pipe snake type things that allow you to get along there. But then the question is "where is there?", along with "and why did it block?" It's impossible to say without seeing your pipes: it could be poor installation (e.g.not enough fall, too much fall, insufficient support so your pipe is U-shaped, bends too tight...), it could be something fell down the pipe and is now stuck. Obviously, if it's an installation problem, if you manage to unblock it, it will probably recur. Sorry, there's not a simple answer. You might consider trying some sort of drain cleaner, but they can be nasty stuff. Hope this helps in some way :)
