If you put vinegar down the drain, after the baking soda, it should react with any undisolved soda and bubble, loosening up debris and hair. Heck, pour straight baking soda down before the vinegar. It's amazing what that can knock loose.

I have a drum trap and it gets clogged up pretty easily. I used a snake and pulled out a huge fir ball loaded with soap scum. I replaced my drain grate with the TubShroom. Probably the first As Seen on TV product that actually works. I clean plenty of hair off of it every week and thankfully it no longer gets down my drain. No issues in over a year.

I tried the plastic snake but it didn't work. A product called Green Gobbler worked for me. I poured the whole bottle down the drain, let it sit overnight and poured some hot water down the drain the next morning. It didn't unclog immediately but I plunged the drain for a few seconds and the clog broke free. This was after two days of trying other drain cleaners, plunging and snaking with the 18 inch barbed plastic tool. If you have a tub shower, get two plungers and a helper. Put one plunger over the tub faceplate/drain lever to create a seal and then plunge the drain. That's what did the job for me.

THANK YOU! I tried that crappy drain cleaner from the store last week and it did NOTHING. I tried this today and at first it didn't seem to do anything. I took a shower a little while later and the tub filled right back up as usual. I stepped out of ankle-deep water and started drying myself off. Then, I heard the most beautiful sound I've heard in months - a properly-draining bathtub. Definitely pay attention to how he points out that it is HOT WATER, NOT COLD. Cold water will crystalize the baking soda quickly, making the blockage even worse. Make sure it's hot hot hot.

Usually the clogs are from dirt and sand that settle in the bottom in the p-trap. The plunger creates a much faster flow rate through the pipe and then the slow dribble from the shower so it's able to stir up this dirt and sand and push it the rest of the way down the drain. My RV shower clogged after a trip to the sand dunes and all I did was put the hose that I was using to flush out the toilet tank into the shower and used my hand so that it created a huge flow straight down the drain

A trick for preventing a slow drain is also once a month Paula stopper block, the drain so water don’t go down, fill the tub with hot water and then pull a stopper. The sudden Russia water will push all the dirt down the drain into the main sewer, which is 4 inches, and that will prevent any clogs. I do it once a month, and all my sinks and shower stall I haven’t had a clog in years

Good info...after all the cleaning I like to finish up w/ a 5 gallon bucket of water, with the screen left off and pour the stream directly down the drain. I think it helps and it makes me feel a whole lot better....also, these water saver toilets need to be flushed frequently which kind of negates the purpose of the "water saver" feature but if your home is on a shallow gradient, and some distance to the sewer line then you need to be moving all that gunk frequently to prevent clogs which back up to the shower etc.

I’d love to see you do a review on cleaning gutters. The type that attach to your vacuum cleaner with a long pole so you can do it from the ground. Cheers.

home depot sells cheap gutter guards that are a plastic with a mesh top. i installed those and havent cleaned gutters in years, or even had a clog because everything stays on top and the wind blows it off. in fall, you can attach a long tube to your leaf blower and really blow the heavy leaves off (if any), but its a remarkably simple way to keep gutters clean for good.

Most shower clogs are caused by hair. By soaking the drain in bleach and leaving it overnight, the hair will break down into smaller pieces and wash away the next time water comes around. Anything heavier though will need a heavier solution like this or drain cleaner.

Thoughts about using baking soda powder and then pouring in vinegar?

You can do that but the fizzing doesn't real do as much as you would think. The scrubbing really does the trick. Don't be afraid of what's under that cover, its like Indiana Jones finding the Ark.

It should have a little intention you can put a flathead screw driver and pop off, but make sure you put a towel or T-shirt down so you don’t crack the shower floor with leverage.
