I managed to get mine to work. When I did my water change today I took out water from the sump first to lower the level then from the main tank. Then I put the nanomat back in. Then after refilling the tank with new water, the level sensor is no longer submerged and the ATO is functioning normally.

Is there any way you can cut out the roud hole of the sock filter in the NANO MAX G1 to put it in? so can you use it somehow on the first version of the NANO MAX? Anyone did it and how did you do it? Thank you for the replies.

No dont think so. Red Sea have said that to make this work they had to widen the rear sump in the G2 models. The G1 sump will be too narrow.

Lasts 3 months??? No!!! I have 7 tanks in all sizes with mostly Red Sea mats and one trigger system mat. They all last an average 1 month and it’s been two years. Some are just corals or anemone tanks with no fish or maybe two and still. Longest has been 6 weeks. Also this will not eradicate your nitrates and phosphates. You will still have to put in the work to keep those down. In the end I still like these for time savings with sock changes and washing so I still recommend it.

I don’t get it. When you can do a 100% water change weekly with barely any effort on a nano why tf would you put a filter roller on it 🤦‍♂️ the reason we need to filter our tanks is because we can’t change all the water whenever we like but this is not an issue with nano’s.

Sounds like you have a different definition of what most people would call "effortless" 100% water change, really? Not only is that more expensive over time but also more time consuming. You'll go through more salt more rodi filters and have a higher water bill. Installing a filter like this would save a ton of time and money over time.

@@aaronyounger452 I’m sorry but if you expect to keep a complex system such as a reef aquarium a 5gal/20L bucket water change weekly to remove toxins, detritus, doc’s as well as replacing macro and trace elements is as efficient as it gets. You need a light, a heater a power head and a skimmer (mostly for ph stability). If you do this weekly you do NOT need a roller mat or filter socks, algae filtration, carbon, ICP testing, carbon dosing, a doser, any trace elements, alk or calcium replenishment, test kits, a controller.. etc have I made my point? You buy salt, mix and replace once a week. That’s it. Let the snails clean your rocks and vac the sand once a month which is 5 minutes. Oh and clean your glass. That’s less than 2 buckets of salt per year. Add up the cost of all the unnecessary equipment, the time to operate and maintain it, also add your test kits, traces and macro elements, filter rolls.. it’s obvious that the water changes solves all water quality and elements and money, time and equipment failures. 20 years in the hobby I’ve learned the basics are wildly underrated in favour of sales.

@@insanity4224 you made your point but its not applicable to everyone and doesn't make sense. Your first comment says do a 100% weekly water change and now your saying all you need is a 5 gallon weekly water change, so which is it? If I change 100% of my water every week yeah I'll be replacing all the elements I need but I'd also be struggling with bottomed out nutrients in the water because it would be too clean and I'd have dinos everywhere. I'd much rather have some sort of filtration like a roller mat or refugium so I could spread out my water changes to every 2-3 weeks and do less overall maintenance and enjoy my tank more while keeping some nitrates and Phosphates in the water for my coals to thrive

@@aaronyounger452 You are correct that I said 100% I should have been more clear that a 5gal bucket is a common and convenient size water change that is enough volume to effectively solve all water quality problems and elemental supply on a nano sized aquarium. Say between 5-15gal is a typical nano tank. Overall maintenance is much lower as you wouldn’t require water testing, dosing, cleaning equipment, programming equipment and changing filter rolls. The nitrogen and phosphate levels will absolutely be bottomed out which is a good point but easily solved by adding it to your salt water before the water change, it would be the same amount every week anyway and takes 20 seconds. Filling a 5 gal bucket of water, popping a heater and a pump in it and adding the salt followed by sucking syphoning out and pumping in water is so little effort I’m not sure what the debate is. It takes a few minutes to organise making the salt water and less then half hour from beginning to packed up to do the water change which is literally your weekly maintenance. A reef tank with half hour weekly maintenance that solves for everything is as efficient and cheap as it gets. You can even do this via ato and mix salt once every few months.

@@insanity4224 thanks for clarifying on the % of water change. I couldn't imagine doing a 30 gallon weekly water change on my 30 gallon tank. Water changes to me personally is not a fun thing to do and if I can go 3 weeks without havimg to do one because I added a roller mat or a refugium I would do it.
