Configuring port security on the CX 6000 series is more difficult than on the 2530s. Wish the port security and show port security commands are somewhat the same or similar.

Hello! I have an HPE Aruba 6000 12G switch that I bought a few days ago. I have connected it to the computer with a usb-c cable and an ethernet cable. I have been able to connect to the switch with Putty, but when I try to log in, it doesn't work. I haven't been able to find the correct default username and password anywhere to log in. I should be able to enable WebGui and change the password and username. Could you help me? Do you know about the default username and password? Your username seems to be admin and I've tried entering it, and then I'm asked for a password that I don't know. You seem to get an option to create your own admin password right after entering your username, and I don't get this. I don't know what is causing this problem. I have a 12 port model of this switch.Thanks!

What's the number part for the cable console?

I don't think there is a part number for the console cable. The console connector on the CX 6100 switch is standard USB-C, so any USB-A to USB-C (if your computer has a USB-A port), or USB-C to USB-C (if your computer has a USB-C port) should work, as long is it is a data cable. At least for USB-A, I know there are really cheap cables that only allow charging, not data, but have not seen them for USB-C. Best to get a 'data' cable, and leave 'charging' cable.

DE meeste commando's lijken hetzelfde als op de vorige gen switches. Zie jij nog veel verschillen behalve dat je nog api's kan laden ?

is 'menu' still working in cli? This works like magic and is still available on the 2530. How about CX 6000?

This "menu" is a legacy cli menu that they abandoned and stopped developing a long time ago. It was just not removed from the software. It didn't offer the full device capabilities you could use/configure and had a few limitations that were not fixed. So you won't see it on any CX switches as they use completely different software. You may find it only on older "traditional aruba" switches once called procurve or provision.

@@darkalman ikr, ive configured loads of switches and everytime i used the "menu" command so i could give it an IP and then access the lovely GUI through a browser. Just had to teach myself the command line way and its horrible.

@@Bubbstar The menu doesn't have all the features, but it allowed us to configure the IP, routing, SNMP, and VLANs very quickly and efficiently and that's all that mattered.

The change in the CLI environment was a very unwelcome surprise for me when I got out 1st cx6100. I wanted a 2540 but Aruba had stopped selling them. The cx6100 hardware wise is a direct successor but software wise 😵‍💫😵‍💫

There is no default, any port can be an uplink port, though you would most likely use one of the SFP+ ports for the speed and flexibility it offers.

Feature wise it offers a lot more on the software side, but the cx switches are more complex to me than the older Provision based stuff like the 2530, 2540, 2930 etc.

Putty is useable you need to select serial and change the COM to the one your port reports in Device Manager. Then a baud rate of 115200 needs to be set in the speed once the console opens wait a few and hit enter around 3 times an the first text line should load in.

With Windows every new Switch would be found with a new comXX device, look at the device manager, which one is acutal. Rumors, that there's a driver which prevents this.

A power cable is included with the order of the switch, just the exact type for your country needs to be specified during the order.

Everybody jumps past vlans. Aruba HP never get this right. If you add a VLAN, then try to add ports, you can't easily add all ports. Not since PROCURVE era have they had this working. YOu have to use CLI.

Tell me about it. On my 2540 and 5400 core switch, easy as pie. On the 6100, had to get vendor support as I had no idea what I was doing! The whole 1/1/1 naming scheme is stupid clunky on a non modular switch and makes the CLI painful to use in my view. The modern CLI seems designed for dev-ops and cloud controller etc and less for mid-level IT administrators to deploy!
