@@chrisallen1934 for most of them, theyll be ripe when the skin gives a little when pressed on. the black sapote and passionfruit should be VERY wrinkly before consuming. the rambutan, dragonfruit, and eggfruit look ripe already. Not sure about the cocoa pod though.

Green fruit is not mangosteen it's black sapote. First hard fruit is passion fruit. The black sapote needs to ripen until soft and squishy to touch it's best eaten with the passion fruit just squeeze on top of it cut it in half there are pits in the middle of the black sapote. Texture is like a very soft avocado but more dense it's pretty tasty.

I live in Northern Virginia and have several great international (I prefer Super H Mart to Lotte) supermarkets which carry many exotic fruit and veg varieties year round at pretty pedestrian prices and restaurants shop there as well. I always forget how spoiled we are. Everything is aways super fresh, $ lower than regular supermarkets [ex. Daikon radish $.79/lb vs $1.40] and better quality. Dragon Fruit runs $3.99-5.99 each vs (sigh) my friend from Thailand paying $.70. Still, everything else in that box except for the cacao football is very inexpensive there. Clearly that price is for premium handling. It would all be under $35-$45.

In that box I can recognize the *lichi* or *licha* as we call it, cacao fruit which is to make chocolate, I see *dragon fruit* as well, and the spiky green fruit we call it *guanabana* it has to be ripe or soft to the touch in order to eat it, you can rap it in newspaper for a faster process. The two green smooth and round fruits are called *maracuya* if you make juice is delecious. The green small bananas you have there we call them *majonchos* it is a type of banana but please let it ripe as well it is much tangy in texture. I hope you enjoy them Emmy love your videos!

Usually the stem is cut a little bit longer than yours and we grab it like a Maraca and slice the top off with your spoon like you do with a boiled egg. So I know a few of these. The green fruit that sorta looks like a mangosteen is a black sapote! It's related to the persimmon and you want to wait until it's soft to eat, like a persimmon. The rough potato-looking ones are sapodilla. They also need to soften before you eat them. Also be careful with the seeds, they are hooked and can get caught in your throat, and are also toxic.

Doesn't look the right shape to me. The astringent permissions Miami fruits(the place emmy bought the fruit box from) sell seem to be the only ones that get that big and they're much more tapered at the end. Then the sweeter variety that you eat crunchy are much more squat than that.

The green ones that are kinda hollow are passion fruit! We call them lilikoi here in Hawai'i!! Love this video, because we have so many of those here. And I think those bananas are apple bananas, which are sweeter and sometimes pink in the middle.

Hello Emmy! I believe the potatoe one could be níspero, the cientific name is manilkara zapota and it is very very sweet when it’s ripe. You can tell that it’s ripe when it changes from really really hard to supple but not mushy. Xoxo! Hope this was of some help and hope you enjoy!

Hi Emmy! The fruit you said maybe is a passion fruit, it really is a passion fruit (or maracujá in Brazil) you have to wait it turn yellow and it’s good to make some juice (because This Kind of passion fruit it’s a bit sour to eat as it is)... the big green one here ir Brazil is called graviola! Good to eat and to make juice too! And about the cocoa (or cacau in portuguese) it’s easy to make chocolate out of it, simple steps and you’ll have A very aromatic chocolate (not very much because you have just one fruit, but you’ll not regret it) Thanks for your videos and have fun with the fruits!

3:15 definitely looks like an unripe passion fruit. It's incredibly similar to those we have here in Lima and it turns dark yellow and wrinkly when it's fully ripe. Also, that cocoa pod looks gorgeous! I hope you get the chance to try one of the cocoa beans. You don't eat them but suck on the "jelly" around them; it's sweet and sour. I tried some back when I visited the Peruvian jungle and I absolutely loved it.

3:52 is definitely a Sapodilla! My mum used to put it in the rice bag to ripen, strange technique but it worked!! Try and eat it when its nice and soft, tastes of brown sugar but be wary of the smooth black seeds. (Super late comment, sorry :/ ) Cheers from the Caribbean!

With the two passionfruit. The little one will be ripe when the body is all dark purple/maroon. The bigger one will be ripe when it is yellow, it is commonly referred to as a "banana passionfruit" here in Aus.

At 3:20, the large one is very probably a Maracuya (passion fruit). The small one might be related, but they're not usually so small. The fruit itself is delicious, it has a tangy sweet yellow interior some very hard small black seeds inside (they are edible). Here in Costa Rica, they are used a lot for jams and often on cheesecake, it's really really really good. If not, it's one of my all time favorite fruits, Granadilla. But those usually are orange on the outside and super super light, with a longer stem. Highly recommended. They have a while fluffy "bag" inside, where the actual edible part is, a bunch of seeds (edible) covered in a juicy, slightly slimy layer each. It's so sweet and delicious! At 4:30, that is a soursop! Also called guanábana. It's the best eaten as is, or in juice, or in ice cream. Omg so good. But you need to wait until it's dark green and soft to get the best flavor. It should be very soft, almost malleable, like if you filled an avocado skin with bread dough. (Sounds gross, but trust me on this!! I spent a couple of minutes thinking that up, but it's the best way I can describe it.) If it's light green, it's not ready yet. And for the cocoa fruit!! That is absolutely delicious. You cut it in half and find the seeds surrounded by a white thing, that white thing is DELICIOUS. Eat that by putting the seed in your mouth, like a rambutan, and then taking the seed out when you're done. Then you can wash them, roast them, and make some homemade chocolate!! (Btw, I had never heard the word rambutan, only "mamón chino". I haven't tried them because it always looked weird and scary to me, maybe I should try them next time they're in season.) Eating the cocoa fruit reminds me of the Guaba or Guama fruit, a very long and hard thing that is full of a row of black seeds surrounded by the softest and most delicious thing ever. I've seen it called the "ice cream fruit", for very good reason. It's like a pillow or a fluffy plushie, and when you eat it it becomes the juiciest thing ever. If you have the opportunity, please get some of those. But it is super rare. You open it by twisting the thing until it cracks open lengthwise, then just open it, and by eating the pillows you can make it look like a piano, lol! Highly recommended, that would be a great episode of fruity fruits!!

Hi Emmy. The bananas are a variety called in Cuba "plátanos manzanos" or Apple bananas. They are at the peak of ripeness when the skin gets very thin, with a yellowish color and black specks, and the skin breaks exposing the flesh. When ripe, they have an intense aroma, and the flavor is a cross between a regular banana and other tropical fruit, like pineapple or passion fruit. Insanely delicious! But wait until they are super ripe!!

Hey Emmy, I grew up eating a few of these fruits, maybe this will help. The passion fruit looking ones are related but different and are unripe, these should turn orange/yellow and somewhat wrinkly as they ripen. If you leave them to wrinkle too much these can dry out inside. So I would eat them when they turn a pretty color and before they wrinkle. The smaller one is a granadilla (it should have black seeds covered in a translucent gel or sacks) and these are generally nice and sweet. The larger one is a Hawaiian passionfruit I think (these have the black seeds covered in a yellow/orange gel or sacks) and these tend to be very sour. The "potato" looking fruits are sapodillas and they are crazy sweet, honey-like tasting. These should be soft to the touch but not mushy. If left to ripen for too long and become mushy these can ferment because of the high sugar content and can pack quite a punch when eaten. Slice these in half and scoop the flesh with a spoon and discard the skin. Some people will have a burning sensation if the sapodilla touches your lips, so I would recommend you don't touch it to your lips. Hope this helps! :)

Chocolate pudding fruit, huh? I don't know if I'll be swapping out my Nutella for a black sapote any time soon. The sapodilla is described to have a malty flavor. Malty?... like those Whopper candies everyone leaves behind in the Halloween candy mixes? Looking to forward to all the new Fruity Fruits episodes!!!
