This was like the vinyl equivalent of attending the opening of Tutankhamun's tomb! I picked up a batch of late 60's albums about 5 years back in similar unplayed condition including an immaculate pressing of Led Zeppelin II with the 'Living Loving Wreck' label misprint. Nice to see you covering other acts besides The Beatles as well.

Wow, that's an impressive collection. I've not heard of anyone back in the day taping LPs and then storing the vinyl, only ever playing the tape. That said, when I buy CDs, I immediately rip them and rarely ever play the CD. Not much different, really. Looking forward to seeing the covers! 😀

I’ve sold U.K. first or second pressings on eBay for between $400. and $1200. I’ve only got a few left ,but if you saw me on eBay ( which I HATE ) you would see the ones that went for big money. Condition was EX + to NM on the ones that got that kind of money. I too taped them to a Revox - Studer A 77 or a Tandberg deck at 7.5 ips. Recording at 15 is insane ,and 10 inch reels costly. I much prefer virgin BASF tape to anything else. And you can sequence the songs the way you like. Example of an album I got $1200.for. Went to a Japanese buyer. It’s was the I believe third pressing stereo with BLACK STEREO on front cover of Rubber Soul. It was VG+ condition ,but as I made mention in the as. The BLACK stereo covers are much rarer than the silver STEREO covers, and also the first ones printed. The issue was no one could see the black on the front cover as it blended in with the background above Paul’s head. So they tried silver … So if you have a BLACK stereo rubber soul cover in VG+ or better come. You’re in luck … Why Parlogram hasn’t hired me for the USA market is a mystery :)

That’s exactly what I used to do back in the 80’s right through to the 90’’s. I used a Pioneer reel to reel recording my LP’s to it was a real treat and the sound quality was nearly as good as the turntable. I’d still have it today only for a house fire 🙄😒

You can play a record as much as you want without wear or deterioration as long as you have all the parameters met! 1. Tracking force under 4 grams 2. Keep records/ stylus clean (each side) 3. Proper anti-skate 4. Proper overhang 5. CARTRIGE ALIGNED CORRECTLY ! 6. change stylus every 6-8 months! But I doubt that people would go through all that back then to preserve records that were always in abundance at the time!
@pootle50963 жыл бұрын
When you say every 6-8 months, can you equate that to an amount of LPs played please? Thanks :-)
@analoguecity34543 жыл бұрын
@@pootle5096 oh, sorry! Cartridges are different, some are good up until 500 hours of play, some (like mine) are 1000 hours! If you figure an average record is around just over 30 minutes (some are longer, like double LPs) , then you can figure out about the time you need to change it! Sorry about the vagueness, but I was "estimating" since cartridges are different! I'd refer to the manufacturer or manual for more information! Hope that helps!

@@analoguecity3454 Thank You. :-) I collect vinyl from my fave bands but rarely play them. I am, however, always being asked by friends to capture theirs and put on CD for them.

changing a stylus every x-y-z amount of months means nothing - determination on the other factors like have you kept it spotless, the lifetime of particular diamond, the model of stylus , the tracking variable - keeping your eye and microscope on the diamond are more important than posting a 'time limit'. If you keep your record clean and the stylus , you can extend the lifetime of it ten fold - compared to someone cleaning it every so often.. clean the stylus after every play. All records and diamonds wear incrementally no matter what you do (when you use them) , that's the nature of physics and friction - even if not perceptible.
@naimusic3623 жыл бұрын
Greetings from Liverpool, England. Just change the stylus when one notices a significant degradation of the sound. Once records has been cleaned it shouldn’t need any major cleaning for a long time. A quick clean now and then with a carbon brush will suffice. All other adjustments etc will be carried out before a record has been played. Simple, enjoy the music..

The second album is the Kinks with their “Greatest Hits” album on PYE in the UK, but it was also released in the US on Reprise which was Frank Sinatra’s own label where he put out a lot of his albums and also put out many of the albums by Dean Martin. I did not know the Kinks was on Sinatra’s label in the US. In addition, The Who’s “My Generation” on UK Brunswick label, not the same label that did Jackie Wilson, Young-Holt Unlimited (with their only hit “Soulful Strut”), Barbara Acklin, and the Chi-Lites in the US, but the US release was on Decca.

Nice haul with the Hollies' albums. As you noted, those weren't big sellers because they were primarily a singles group. By the late 1970s, those were reissued with different titles in Europe, because the originals were long gone. Here in the US, we were able to get the "budget" reissues as imports. Interesting point to note that while working in a local record shop around 1991 or so, we had some collector / dealers from the UK visit us for shopping purposes. I mentioned to the pair that I collected the Hollies. Back then they stated they never really had very many in stock. The reason being is that whenever they came across them, the albums (according to them) were far over-priced AND in very poor condition. I imagine that father time has put many of those old albums back in to circulation, but those are fine examples of the original UK Hollies' albums.

I don't think I would have been able to sleep between opening the box with the LPs and waiting for the box of covers to arrive. It would have been a disaster if the covers got lost in the mail... or vice versa. That My Generation LP really looks stunning. Wish I could afford it.

Ooooh very nice, that would have cost a bit...I bought a magazine with all the kinks albums and they were saying originals for a lot of them go for four to about seven hundred pounds each.....I have a vertigo article from over twenty years ago and the most expensive is about four hundred and lots were only about fifty pounds then, now they are often in the thousands in mint condition
