I really love the elf calendar because it's as if elf thought of the calendar as a giftbox of products, so by Christmas you've got the entire set. Quite different to most of the advent calendars I've seen, which are usually less diverse in the type of products they contain.

My fam all were first responders. Mom and dad were a Firefighter & OR Nurse,. Baby bro and I were both paramedics. All 4 of us were on call even if were were off. We ALWAYS volunteered to work the holidays since there was NO chance of all 4 of us getting off or not being called out. (Plus you get paid double time and 1/2.... for our 24 hr shifts..it helps) We made habit of meeting in uniform at 7am at malls and Walmart the day AFTER CHRISTMAS to buy gifts! EVERYTHING is marked down 75% off! We would buy each other funny gifts one would never ask for cuz they’re specifically for Christmas.(Ex: a dozen expired advent calendars ...open them and stuff Christmas socks with! Barrels of flavored popcorn, stuffed Christmas socks for pets, barbecue sauce sets, cocoa sets, foot massagers ... Lol) Then wed hit the wrapping paper, ribbon trees and decor! First responders don’t get paid well. (starting EMT wage was $8.00 p/h...starting paramedic was $11.00 p/h in 2000! ) It was so GREAT to finally be able to afford Christmas for once in our lives. I know that’s not what it’s about, but as with most everyone, holidays put us in debt and cause us so much stress. With first responders...it’s VERY DEPRESSING AND BUSY. Morevwrecks due to travel and weather. Suicides due to loneliness. Fires due to Christmas trees and lights. Who knew that but celebrating it a day or 2 late would make it a holiday we could enjoy TOGETHER with out sadness and stress. Most IMPORTANTLY, it gave my family something EVERYONE WANTS, but no one can buy. It gave us TIME!
