The box is called a balikbayan (return to home) box. It’s a big part of Filipino culture. Since there is a lot of overseas Filipino workers, they would often send gifts to relatives back in the Philippines via the balikbayan box. The cash in the wallet is also part of Filipino superstition. We believe you need to include cash whenever you gift a wallet so that the new owner would be abundant in money. The name tags in the gifts in the balikbayan box is also typical. :)
