no, OO gauge refers to the width between the rails (16.5mm). If it was scale your after its referred to as 4mm scale.

I asked for the Flying Scotsman in Live Steam by Hornby for Christmas. Instead I received the Mallard, but was certainly not disappointed! None of these teeny live steam engines by Hornby would!
@DOBM13 жыл бұрын
@07marmi Your standard Hornby R8250 controller is designed to run one train at a time. So any OO gauge locomotive should be fine but NOT a live steam model. If you want to run multiple trains you need multiple controllers with isolated circuits, alternatively go the digital route and fit your locomotives with DCC digital control chips and buy a digital controller. This would allow you to run multiple DCC fitted locomotives on the same track at the same time. Research carefully before purchase

You have the mannerisms and voice for this, you had me mesmerised. Well done.

a bloke at an exhibiton gave rides behind a pair of Hornby Dublo Deltic models to paying customers in the late 60s, so yes I have lol!
@DOBM13 жыл бұрын
@07marmi Sorry I don't understand your question. The specialised controller for Live Steam is totally unsuitable for analogue or DCC locos and vice-versa.

Note these DON@T USE OIL OR NOT OIL FIRED! they only use Steam Oil for Lubication, they are powered by steam. I would only get one if they Release any Southern or Great Western Region Locomotives
@FestoolDeutschland14 жыл бұрын
very nice neve knew hornby made any models like this nice demo & tips.
@matthewpeter17 жыл бұрын
its a steam engine, it really is chucking out exhaust steam, its not a fake electric one that smokes
@TheJBoy7317 жыл бұрын
they certainly do, for christs sake mine's a railroad range scotsman, but that still has spring loaded buffers. don't get me wrong, i still love it, not bad for a second locomotive, eh?
@capmodesty16 жыл бұрын
Interesting how the actual boiler appears to be in the tender

Thanks very much for posting this 'blog'. I found it quite informative, and it has aided my descision on whether to get one, obviously i am going to be getting one. so should anyone else.

I wish I could afford something like that... but I'm only 15 years old and it costs over $700 U.S.!
@DOBM13 жыл бұрын
@ComediTv37 No it doesn't and do NOT please be tempted to use de-ionised water as it destroys the solder in the boiler.
@MarkMck199415 жыл бұрын
Engine?!? Train = Modern Trains Flying Scotsman = Steam Locomotive
@DOBM17 жыл бұрын
Actually I think you are right. The oil is used for two purposes, primarily as lubrication but also for the smoke effect from the chimney. Steam emits from other parts of the locomotive.
@Zoso_199016 жыл бұрын
To be really technical, there is no such thing as OO gauge. Or even HO or N gauge, they are SCALES not gauges. Although I' am aware that many companies such as PECO write HO/OO GAUGE TRACK, well technically speaking they are wrong! Gauge's are Narrow, Standard and Broad.

There is one in Singapore, Katong Shopping Center that sells complete Hornby sets and other Hornby stuff. It's an authorised reseller for SG I think. It also sells scalextrix and other stuff. There is one more at Adelphi basement, but it is selling off old stock and converting to a camera shop...
@matthewpeter17 жыл бұрын
actually, if compared to a "normal 12v model" the 12v model will be much more accurate than the Live Steam one! The locos cylinders for example are much too big and the wheels and dummy valve gear are slightly innacurate too, in contrast to Hornby's 12v LNER A3 loco, which is as accurate as accurate can be!

I am only Ten so i don,t think I could aford one of them or evan play with one but still a great vid ps I love the flying scotsmen and I have one for my nomal set

@leeham991 most likely it will destroy the circuitry and motors in the traint due to the increaced voltage dut it would be intresting to see it go in a cloud of red smoke

yes there is but the hornby shop in singapore sells only Scalextrix and humbrol items

for christ sake if anyone that is going to comment on this vid they should look back through the comments to see if any of their questions or complaints (coal truck/tender) have been answered. most have. ill say again that the "lot of stuff here, hehe, marvelous" bit always makes me laugh.

Great unboxing mate. question, will i need to turn the pressure release valve after each steaming before boxing it back up or no? Thats what my friend told me to do but you seem to be expierenced on this locomotive so i thought i shouldnt waste my money and ask someone like you first.

I was at a carboot once and There was this set here... had track and rolling stock aswell... it was £65! My dad normally puts cash in his wallet but he didnt this time :(
@DOBM12 жыл бұрын
@AstroTrainboy1174 Surprisingly, no they don't come with pure distilled water. NEVER use tap or bottled water or even worse, absolutely do NOT use de-ionised water as that disintegrates the solder joints in the boiler. The 'Hornby' water however lasts ages and with modest use of the loco a few times a year, you'll probably get five years plus from one 1L container.
@DOBM17 жыл бұрын
It certainly is! Must remember to write a script next time to avoid those 'senior' moments :-)

I think the live steam Flying Scotsman with double tender was possibly a limited edition.
@DOBM12 жыл бұрын
@cyberkidmfb Hornby did make a standalone double tender version, but not as a 'complete' set. i.e. it assumed you already have track and the specialised mains transformer and controller.

@kelvin9918 Sorry no idea, I do not sell these. They are becoming difficult to get and if you succeed in acquiring one, I recommend you get many replacement water and oil seals before they become impossible to obtain.

why was the unboxing video cut short at the end? i mean, im not complaining ; beautiful description of everything. but is there a reason the unboxing was cut so short?
@Zoso_199016 жыл бұрын
Well technically your wrong. It is meant to refer to the SCALE compared to the real thing which is 1:76.2. I understand that the gauge is 16.5mm but many who have been modelling for many years become frustrated with the term GAUGE for it is not a real gague, i.e. standard, narrow or broad. I understand what the term represents but forgive me for being picky but I have never heard of a train which ran on 16.5mm GAUGE taking paying passengers? have you?

where do you get that
@SC7398516 жыл бұрын
right, if people are going to pretend they're experts with "coal truck? tender! uh!" then why has no 'expert' said that when DOBM says "flying scotsman, train itself" he is wrong for the flying scotsman(assuming you mean not the passenger service) is not a train. it is a locomotive, a train is a combination of a locomotive and several rolling stock. there. experts? i think not.i dont pretend to be an expert but that was to shut you up. i'm now waiting for someone to send me a nasty comment back.

@DOBM12 жыл бұрын
@cyberkidmfb You need to ensure that the set is absolutely complete and guaranteed in fully working order. Do note that this set is really designed for adult enthusiasts as it is extremely fiddly and awkward to drive and requires constant attention and servicing. You'll need a good collection of spare water and oil seals too, as otherwise it will rapidly become unusable. Good luck!
@AustinKayDirector10 жыл бұрын
