Their larger weapons are often not built with balance and 'wieldability' in mind, though they are rumored to be very resistance to structural damage; especially to the blade's edges. I look forward to your review and hope that you could test this item more harshly than normal. I like Sabersmith, though, and they are currently constructing my custom-designed dual-spear. :)

whats interesting to me about sabersmith is that all of their products stay in line with a particular aesthetic (ie: the hand wrap, pommel, and hand guard construction) regardless of the blade/weapon. Even their maces and hammers have that same hand wrap and pommel style. From what I remember, from handling them, they fall on more of the heavy side, especially the katana styled swords.
Someone please make a 10-hour version of Skall popping bubble warp.

I'd highly recommend their products, having looked at many of them in person I've been wildly impressed with all of them.
@Gamerdude5352 жыл бұрын
I’d say it depends, some of their models seem rather too short and too heavy. Their “Greatsword” is about 6 pounds with only a 33” Blade and 48” overall which should be a shorter bladed Longsword/Bastard Sword. Kind of outrageous considering the pricing. While their Claymore is also listed as 6 pounds and is considerably longer overall at 58” While it’s listed at 34 inches for blade length they might have only taken the sharp portion into consideration for that measurement. That one is more reasonable And then look at their Side Sword. Just 2.2 pounds. And has a good length, It’s probably their best sword. And then their Katana at 2.6 pounds, Wakazashi at 1.4 pounds, and Odachi at 3.4 pounds. seem to handle and weigh pretty much how they should for the length. Their “Viking” sword has an almost 26 inch blade and is 2.8 pounds. Also seems like one of their better options. Just a tad heavy for the length but maybe nothing too bad being a one-handed sword under 3 pounds.

you should open the boxes with swords. Like casually. Just show the box then casually grab your hanwei lowlander, or the knecht kriegsmesser and use the tip to cut open the box then just put the sword back. Like it's just lying there all the time causer you are a sword guy and have swords everywhere. Act like its no big deal and you do shit like this all the time. This would make me laugh.

Seriously though, with some video editing he could display the box on the right. Show himself wielding a blade on the left, ready for battle. He then unscrews his pommel and hurls it at the box. And in an explosion of cardboard and bubble wrap the sword is perfectly unboxed and shining, waiting for him to casually pick it up and review it. This needs to happen.

Man, that's a gorgeous scimitar... Although I'm a trained fencer, when I used to spar regularly with friends of mine back in college (one of my friends made a LOT of padded training weapons that were weighted realistically, from a dagger all the way to a halberd), my favorite loadout ended up being the scimitar + madu combination (the madu is a short dual-pointed spear, but his version didn't have a small shield attachment). The curve of the scimitar made lunges incredibly tough for my opponents to properly block (as I'd tilt the sword just enough in mid-lunge to slide around their parry) and the madu was a great off-hand weapon both for defense and ranges that the scimitar wasn't ideal for (extremely close quarters and long range, really). Not sure if that's an actual viable fighting style, but it worked well enough for me in our many sparring matches, especially since I didn't have the endurance for the heavier polearms, and I wasn't good at all with a shield. I'm not ambidexterous, but I am somewhat comfortable wielding a weapon in my left hand as long as it's a madu or light sword of some sort. :) EDIT: That friend is the only reason I even know what a madu (or maduvu, if you're googling it) is. :)

I was at a sabersmith store in a renaissance fair a few weeks back. The hilt construction is good on them which is about all I can say. All the blades are just bar stock that's fairly crudely hollow ground. The edge is so thick behind the edge. There's no distal taper on the blades since they're all bar stock. Several short swords with long sword hilts. They more or less got the feel right, but the blade work was so shabby for the price.

That pommel - and wrap - is typical of Sabersmith's works. If you're ever at the Michigan Renaissance Festival (as a general rule I wouldn't advise it - quality's dropped off in recent years) you'll see a lot of rennies with Sabersmith works for the simple reason that there are only two constant weapon shops at the festival and Sabersmith is one of them. (The pirate ship used to be a third but they shut down. Now it sells garb.) I've been eyeing Sabersmith gear for ages but I can never afford it. I can't remember which shop in particular Sabersmith is, but I can definitely say it is either right next to the entrance or by the joust, and either way, directions are "Turn right when you get in and it'll be on the right side." The only difference is how far you have to walk.
