After another busy but fun filled day, I get to sit, hand sew on a quilt border and watch this video. Thank you so much for sharing this and I hope you have a wonderful week ahead!

I have one just like that with the cams and goodie (feet etc) box. That is one of the heaviest machines I own. HOW did the shipper EVER believe it would survive packed like that?!
@justincase2281
@justincase2281 2 жыл бұрын
The next time you order a machine, have the shipper send the machine and it's case separately. You will have a better chance of keeping both machine and case in good shape during shipping. I used to work in the high end wine business and always sent the wine separately from the wooden case. Never lost a shipment or had any damage of whatever I sent in three years of work and having sent thousands of orders. Emphasize to the shipper that both parcels need to packed very well so damage won't occur. Good luck

Oh and by what I can see from the vid the case pieces seems to be complete/whole (not completely broken into tiny bits) so it is repairable just needs some tlc and reinforcement internally or externally by metal on corner joints. Add support to bottom if needed, it's better to repair than throw away.

Ordered a Singer 222K from Australia. The case was shattered when I got it but it did protect the machine thank GOD.

I didn't know that Adler even made "home" machines, I owned an industrial walking foot and still regret ever selling it. I really enjoy your vids. God bless.

I ordered a bernina from an ebay seller who packed it so badly, that by the time it arrived, was inoperable. The take up lever was in pieces. So sad to see this happen to these rare machines.

When I bought a pre-war Martin guitar in Lexington, MA, I. made sure to pick it up (from that area) because the 'Coffin' cases rarely survive shipping

Cool. They don't make 'em like they used to eh? If it was a new model the machine would have been cracked and in pieces! Packing a machine for shipping could be a topic for a video :) When I sold one to ship I followed the rule for packing a framed art picture. Either let UPS pack it for you - OR - do this: Wrap the item in a couple inches thick bubble wrap. Put it in a close fitting box. Wrap that box in a couple inches of styrofoam and put it in a close fitting box. Tape the final box thoroughly. In other words - anything fragile whether it's crystal dishes or a small machine, it should be double boxed. Love your channel even though I don't generally use the info other than loving all my old hand-me-down sewing machines. I'm just waiting for you to service a 1954 Singer Simanco which I learned on. I think you're smart to sell parts :)

I bought a lovely Universal zig-zag machine a year or so ago. It was poorly packaged and the deck is cracked and shifted. I don't even know if it's repairable. I DID get a refund through Fedex though, but I'd rather have had an intact machine. Oh well, that's life. Once in a while, I've politely asked a seller to double-box. I've asked to have the machine padded beneath and around it with thickly wadded up newspaper in one box, then layering wadded newspaper in the bottom of second box before lowering the first box into it and finishing with the same padding all around. Done correctly, this works extremely well and the best sellers are usually agreeable. They want a successful transaction too. I've sold highly fragile items packed this way also and they've always arrived without damage. The second layer of newspaper is a good buffer.

Bummer regarding the poor padding...or lack there of. On a positive note, Be glad they didn't put the speed control in with the machine as it would likely have scratched the heck out of the paint on the bad as it was shipped. Don't ask me how I know this 😞 Beautiful machine though!! The Adler is on my short list. Cheers

I bought a White off EBay. It woulda been a fabulous buy had they packed it better. I haunt Craig’s list for local estate machines I can go pick up now. Feels too risky to let a non sewing person ship a machine now.

@amysbees6686 Жыл бұрын
That's really unfortunate. And so avoidable! Why couldn't the seller take the item to a UPS/FEDEX store where THEY will even CRATE it up FOR YOU! THAT would be worth at least a 100 bucks, especially for a vintage/antique machine!

What a shame that the case got destroyed, but as you said, its no wonder. These machines are so heavy, that even with moderate packing/padding between machine and case it still gets significant loads... What a beauty of a machine though! I Love the green shade.

Yes, would probably need to ship the case separately. Most sellers wouldn't do that.

Those hinges attached to the machine look like Singer cabinet hinges, aka lollipop hinges. I, too have received damaged machines. The post office and FedEx seem to present the least amount of problems. But, they aren't perfect, either.

That is the original timing belt, for sure. There were two versions of that belt-- one made of textile strands with metal cleats, and the other a steel belted composite plastic belt like the one in yours. Unfortunately, the steel/plastic type falls apart after fifty or sixty years. If the replacement belt you are going to try to have manufactured can be made open-ended so that you can join the ends together once it is over the pulleys inside the machine it would save you and others many many hours of work. Good luck! I hope you succeed at this.

Are you getting all of the cams with this? I think there were four different cams... three came with the machine and one came after.

I got the accessories a week later. Came with 4 cams and all of the original docs. There were 5 cams available according to the docs. Also came with lots of feet and some other accessories. I'm not going to play with it too much since the belt has pieces coming off every time I move the machine.

What a cool looking machine, that's gotta be a type of machine green. The only thing they might have been able to differently with shipping, is adding blocks of wood or a frame to keep it from jostling. IDK.

I ask for the machine to be seran wrapped to base. Especially in a lidded case. I also ask for some regular Styrofoam on the top corners to help absorb stuff going on top of it

Needs Styrofoam wedged tight on all sides yes, wouldn't trust anything else. It needs Styrofoam between machine and case and case and tote.

Can you help me? I've been given a Frister 15 Star sewing machine. It was in good working order but I caught the tension spring on something and misshaped it. Thinking I could fix it, I took the whole thing apart and made it worse! 1. Can you advise on the correct way to reassemble 2. Should the take up spring be attached to the inside of the machine (I couldn't get it out) and I couldn't get the whole unit out either.
