Great to see you are selling Unison Research. Made in Italy with superb sound to match the looks. I’ve got a pair of smart 845’s mystery one and also an integrated simply 4 (with blue el34). No trouble with any of it. Of course it doesn’t sound like naim (also have) but does stuff the naim can’t do (tangible vocals/warmth). And not a black box of course!

I love valve amps myself, it's what I used for my first proper hifi set up - an Audio Innovations Series 500, I replaced that with my Prima Luna EVO 400i which has more power being class A/B rather than class A for the Series 500. So speaker matching is easier, I usually look for something over 90db/m at 8ohms. Regarding handling the valves, I use cotton gloves to avoid fingerprints, Prima Luna going to the trouble in supplying them with the amp but you can buy pairs in Boots.

I had the audio innovations 300 then went to a 500 but sold it as the 300 was better

Happy New Year Phil. You said you didn't have any ideas for new videos - how about Rothwell MCL/Simplex vs Rega Aria/ Exposure Phono Stage and/or something Tom Evens similar. Upgrading cartridges is sometimes only half the story.

Hi Phil. Are 12 valve watts different to 12 solid state watts and if so please could you define the difference and explain why there is a difference.

12W per channel in a EL34 based single ended amp is total BS, and not true at all. Half of that is reasonable, if the amp is well engineered.

Absolutely.I have handled tubes with bare fingers in several of my tubeamps on a daily bases for more than 10 years. No problem what so ever. That is BS

I have the same amplifier, but the TAD version of it. It sounds very good even to high levels. The mentioned 12 watts are meant for both channels, since e34s can't do more than that in a single ended configuration. It's a pretty decent amp with a wonderful sound. Can recommend it.
