Wow. My first stove at 15 or 16 years old was very similar to this. I'm 57 now so it brought back a lot of memories for me to watch this. Thanks.

I still have a Camping gaz double burner and grill from the 70s,last summer during lockdown,i made an outdoor kitchen from cement board (hardie backer)to fit it, which i painted.We have cookouts with a large griddle pan,which we prefer over the faff of barbecues,and its all easy to clean.Also have an old Camping gaz burner that takes c200 cartriges,the sealing washer is still safe,and has been at 42 TT races visits.

Great stove, I also had one, as I was a saleman for Calor Gas at the time selling Camping Gaz , Primus, & Bullfinch, all great kit, but not really packer friendly. Keep finding, buying and showing please. Steve.

It does go back to the seventies or maybe earlier, i remember using it on holiday in the early 70s, as a kid. I’ve got my dad’s, the box is a bit rusted, but the stove is near perfect, it’s good to see what should be inside, I’ll have to check what’s in mine. Not sure if mine has a leather belt to keep it shut. I want to get one of the old brass pump up paraffin stoves, we never had one as a kid, but they just look so cool, the sort of thing that would cost a fortune to buy nowadays. There seem to be a lot of them out there. I think. There still a camping gaz light kicking about somewhere, also one of the gas heaters, with a satellite dish shape heater bit that fits on a gas bottle. A lot of people kept that sort of thing- cooker, heater and lighting, because of the electricity strikes and power cuts in the 1970s, in Britain. I also remember we had a cupboard full of tinned food (as did my grandma) for emergency use- I suppose, nowadays, it would be called “prepping”, back then, it was just called “common sense” 🤣😂😁!

Thanks Mat, it's a legendary stove - I love it, although have yet to make a brew with it. I too remember the lamps and of course the heaters which look like an add on to the international space station! ATB

mine (from my grandfather, and he died in '77!) is similar, but mine has a leather handle on top of the box. Mine also has a silver section on the folded down base that the stove clamps/slides into. My stove body has a round shape, without the recesses in yours. I suspect mine is a bit older than yours. It has seen more use, too, and has a touch of light rust on the tin. The butane cartridges are still available (I got 6 for £12 from Amazon last Autumn), but the propane/butane mix ones seem to have disappeared from sale. On butane, when the temperature is down to about 5 C or so, the stove starts up with a rather weedy flame, but reflected heat from the case and the pan seems to warm the cartridge a bit, and the flame markedly improves after a bit (maybe 5 mins). Room in the case for the stove and a pair of spare gas cartridges (obviously take out the spares before using the stove! - mine has that on a little paper instruction sheet rather than printed inside the tin).

Lovely old stove that brings back memories for me too. But be careful, the little black rubber that seals onto the gas canister can perish over time, can leak gas and can be a bit dangerous - so just check the rubber seal when you can. You really should have made a brew on its first firing!
@MCMOutdoors4 жыл бұрын
Cheers, top tip re the seal - I'll check it out and replace if needs be. I know re the brew, still - it will be christened soon! ATB - Chris
