I just bought one of these used (2022) in mint condition which I chose after playing it in addition to three brand new ones at the same store. It is magic. The feel, the tone, the playability, and even the look. I have a D35 also which is also fantastic. They are just very different. The D18 is just true blue Martin magic. It has the darker nuanced yet focused tone of mahogany paired with the bright snappy attack of the spruce top. I couldn’t happier with it. Great video!

This is an awesome unboxing video. Great looking and sounding guitar. I bought my first brand new Martin, a D-18 standard in a natural full gloss finish. I sold my other acoustic guitars because I’d rather play the D-18 every time. I’ve had many guitars at any given time most of my adult life, but am enjoying having only the D-18 and a Jimmie Vaughan Stratocaster now. I feel like I’ve reached my guitar end game and can now just play instead of looking for new guitars and gear. As soon as I got my D-18 I was like “wow, I’ve been missing out for years, I should have bought one in the first place”

I am so proud of you Sean! When you get to the level that Martin is giving you D-18's you can be sure you have ARRIVED! Good for you! You are a real talent musically, your teaching skills are very high and you know how to put together entertaining videos, all not common attributes! I myself will never buy one, they are just too much money for something like a "mere guitar" (can you tell I'm married?) I do have a D-18 "clone" in a Recording King RD-318 which has impressed me GREATLY and I got for a steal because somebody returned it cause of a bad tuner and they didn't have a silver one so they replaced it with a gold one one and then cracked the veneer of the face of the headstock a bit around the peg putting it in, me do not care, it's new, skin still on the pickguard, the bone nut was as tight as a tick that pencil lead fixed, it rings like a bell and I got it for a little over $400 shipped to my abode, VERY pleased. So I will trying to keep up with you and your Martin best I can!

I bought my Martin in 2017. It’s just an X series dread but I’ll never part with it. I got close to selling it to someone once, and then had second thoughts. It plays great and sounds huge with the right strings and a better nut/saddle. I’ll hand it down to my son one day when I have kids.

Congrats! Sounds great and I'm looking forward to your outlaw country band, tho I think you should stick to guitar. You managed to make the banjo sound like a ukulele, which was amusing and maybe a bit outlaw but not very country, let alone bluegrass. 😏 I have a Martin 16 series that I like but the acoustic I tend to pick up is a D18 knock off made for Aria back in the 70's by Japanese luthier Sada Yairi (uncle of Kazuo Yairi, whose guitars are marketed in the US by Alvarez). Picked it up for a song (so to speak) about 10 years ago and love how it plays and sounds. You know it's from that era because a hippy had stuck a large mandala decal below the bridge, which is probably why I got it so cheap. I was a hippy back in the 70's and the decal amuses me - I consider it part of the charm and history of the instrument so I haven't removed it. Enjoy your new guitar! 😊

How was the action on that out of the box? I’m a Martin guy and recently bought one. I played several more at GC when I was looking. They all had too high action from the factory. Every single one. Once I adjusted mine, it played great. But I had to adjust it. And I’ve heard from other people that Martin just sends them out that way for some reason. So I’m curious how yours was.
@seandaniel23
@seandaniel23 Жыл бұрын
I gotta say the action on this one was lower than the previous ones I've gotten. Cause yeah I agree, usually acoustics come a little too high for my taste, but this one played great right away.
@G_Demolished
@G_Demolished Жыл бұрын
High action sounds better! And it lets you dig in harder. I only lowered mine a little bit from how it came.
@judosailor610
@judosailor610 Жыл бұрын
@@G_Demolished of course I'm not gonna tell you to not like what you like! Ha ha. If a higher action suits your playing style, that's cool. But in my opinion, unless the action is so low that you're getting fret buzz or something, there's no reduction in sound quality by lowering the action a little bit. But there is a tremendous uptick in playability.
@G_Demolished
@G_Demolished Жыл бұрын
@@judosailor610 That’s just demonstrably false. A guitar set with higher action will be louder and more resonant.
