A lil late to the party, lol🤪 Excellent down to earth review!! I've had a Cold Steel on my belt and in my pockets for 35+ years, as former federal LE, with 4 1/2+ years in deep uncover(Group I UCO for those familiar), and Lynn Thompson/Cold Steel produced our custom knives/daggers for us. Their quality has always been top notch and though I've had a few minor issues, CS/Lynn has never failed to make it right! Owning both pre & post acquisition knives, I have noticed zero difference, though I realize that if someone buys a newly released knife then has an issue, they're going to automatically chirp, "Cold Steel has gone to sh!t since they were bought," lol. I'd try more than a single knife before I started slamming the company, lol. They still make a great knife🔪!! Regarding the packaging, there is zero difference between the quality of the the clam wrap knife and a boxed knife. Lynn told me this himself and I believe him. The clam rapped knives were packaged to be hung on a wall in a retail environment where they did not have the luxury or space to put a case/cabinet in for the knives or the luxury to absorb the labor costs of having an employee to have to get out every knife every time someone wanted to see a knife. I've received knives in both, though the majority(probably 80%+) were bubble wrapped/boxed, as were both of my 4-Max Elites and 2 of my 3 Scouts. There was no difference in any way between my clam wrap Scout and the boxed piece. You will definitely find that both the Elite and the Scout will loosen and get smoother on deployment with use. I also shot a lil lube in mine. As you noted, the liner on the Elite is Ti, with the liner on the Scout being stainless steel. Just bought one of the “Elites” from Midway and the quality was awful. Gritty, blade off center, the titanium liners were pitted, etc. I noticed it had the new logo. Sent it back for an exchange and was sent one with the old logo. The quality difference was like night and day. Kept it and ordered a second. Got another with the old logo, another great quality one. I’ve got many of the older “Cold Steel” knives and all have great quality and fit & finish, so not quite sold on the new takeover. Maybe mine was just a fluke but maybe not.

I've got a pre GSM Recon 1 and just recently bought a Mini Recon 1 since it was brought back into production. I honestly cannot tell much difference between build quality between the two, they are both excellent. The Griv-X handle is nice as well.

Put the pocket clip in a vice and very slightly bend it outward then reattach - much better

Hi, I am wondering will the cardboard box of the knife tear if you peel the sticker off. And if not, can you put the sticker back on like it was never peeled in the first place? Or in other words, is it possible to know if the knife box has been opened before you acquire it ?

I'm sure that if some one is motivated enough they may be able to peel the sticker without damaging the box but I don't imagine it would be very easy to do.

I assume we define "Mall Ninja" as something that tries to look cool first with useless design aspects. While Cold Steel has made a history of being tactical they usually aren't "mall ninja". They legit make knives that military folks actually use. Well, maybe there are a few items that are borderline. There is a new model of throwing stars coming out that does seem a bit "mall ninja". 😅

Cold Steel got greedy and their quality control isn't what it use to be before they were bought out.

Yeah a lot of people say that. I haven't had any knives from the old cold steel so I can't compare the difference but most of the cold steel knives I've had seem to be pretty good.

4max cpm 20cv is the best.. come with BIG STOP PIN!! not with aus 10A or s35vn..

No, the stop pin is the same size where it touches the blade. It's only the 20CV version has larger holes through liners and scales. The newer version does not have the lock bar problem, and fit and finish of the Taiwan version is better.
