Oh, I need one. I have a friend, and Aussy that lives in Japan who's done a video of a Holden sold by Mazda in Japan called the Roadpacer. It's an HQ Holden sedan witha Mazda rotary engine in it.

The Mazda Roadpacer was actually a HJ Premier sedan, not a HQ - different grille, bumpers, headlights and taillights.

Thanks mate I didn't know these existed until now. Every Aussie and Kiwi my age had something to do with an Hq. They were taxis, cop cars, family cars, tow wagons, you name it. Then, in our twenties we turned them into street machines. I think the same era Camaro shares a very similar chassis. This is a 73 model you have.

It should be easy to build an Australian police car of the early-to-mid 70's with these. You'll need both of the kits that Shawn opened here - use the Monaro engine with everything else from the Kingswood - you can build something for it to chase with the remaining parts (it was reasonably common to see lower-spec Belmont's and Kingswood's customised with Monaro parts in the 70's and 80's). Typically, SA patrol cars were light blue, and all the eastern states were white - I'm not sure about WA, but I believe they may have been black or dark blue with a white roof. The 'disco lights' will be pretty easy to scratch-build - each state had a slightly different design, so it would be best to work from reference photos. There are decal sets available online for NSW and Victoria Police cars - I haven't seen any for other states, but it's possible they are out there.

So good to see an Aussie car in plastic kit form and a classic like the HQ too. I had two HQ Station Wagons many years ago, wish I still had them. I'm keen to see their 2 door Monaro. The Kingswood is basically the Chevy Nova of Australia, everyone knows someone who owned one or grew up in the backseat of one. Although you could get the Kingswoods with V8s it's nice to see the straight six get some love.
