The lovely folks at Glarry kindly sent me another guitar to review for you this month. Not exactly my choice this time but I know there will likely be a good market for this style of Metal guitar!
So if all things heavy rock, metal and thrash are your thing, then prepare for this little devil.

That sounds like a great guitar for the price-point. Too many pickup options on guitars now anyway. If a beginner or teen is looking for a guitar of this appearance, this is a good place to start. Small upgrades can be made along the way.

Bought this months ago, have already done many upgrades and hand lettered a case with the Glarry logo with some flames on the logo. Love the guitar, but it needs fret attention, but I love doing this work to my guitars.

Yes they will need a proper set up and fret end work but they have been pretty level on mine in the main. Great stuff brother :-)

Mine came in a few days ago and I love it! I got white and changed the hardware to black so it looks more badass. The weight is perfect and the guitar feels incredible. A simple setup and muting of the springs in the back and the guitar is perfect!

Great review, CGS! I noticed: The black is not "Jet black" it's sort of a lighter "milky" black.. the overall finish seems to have lots of specks from sanding & polishing. Glad you figured out the 5 way! I like "strange" guitars, so I do like this one! Good work!

I bought one this week cause it came up on ebay at £52 posted, I'm shocked at the quality of it I've played crappier guitars at £200 lol, but they seemed to have listened to the reviewers as it now has a 5 way switch and the nut is better quality and finished great, frets do need the edges finished but no fret buzz and surprisingly was in tune out of the box apart from 1 string lol. I bought it to mod I'm sticking locking tuners and new pickups in it. If you like the look of it don't hesitate buy it if you're into moding guitars and don't mind tidying the frets etc.

The headstock shape fits the body. That's nice. Small, light guitars are neck heavy. My Ibanez S521 has that too. It's not too bad, though, nothing like my 5-string Jazz Bass. A 3-way switch is clearly cheap and a first class upgrade candidate but I wonder how much intermediate positions are desired by the buyers of such guitars. Maybe it doesn't matter all that much. The clean sounds are clear enough, by the way. Not bad. The shape seems ergonomic enough, so whoever likes the look might also like to use it. I have such a thin block on my Harley Benton ST-62 and it works perfectly well. Tone and sustain are just fine. It also came flushed to the body. Setting it up floating was not difficult. There are videos teaching how to do it. I would recommend watching Frudua for clear and concise instructions. "Quite a thick" neck appears to be the safe way of providing cheap stability.

Picked up one of these, they had blue as an option. Ran me $61USD with a blank headstock. Although it has the 5 way switch , the center position is dead. I'll have to pull it apart to see what's going on inside. Eventually, I'll be giving it to my granddaughter when she's big enough. I'm sure it'll get beaten up, so I'm not gonna worry about replacing the pups anytime soon. Still, for the price of a couple cases of beer, it's a really decent knock around guitar. Even though it wasn't sold as a Glarry, I'm positive it's made in the same factory as everything is identical to yours, like the non-recessed plates on the back, scale length, , head stock shape, etc. So if you're interested, just have a look around eBay and you'll find it, saving you $30+.

I have purchased 3 guitars from Glarry including the one in this video accept mine was in the Sunburst. I am used to play Les Paul style guitars so this little lightweight thing was a shock to my system lol. I thought the finish was nice on mine and I liked the feel of the neck. I don't like those skinny necks shredder guys seem to like. But yeah, the pups were bad for a rock guitar anyway. I actually ended up selling mine to a woman who was looking to buy her son a cheap guitar for a Christmas present back in December. I sold it to them for $100. But I also included with the sale a small Crate amp, 15 watt I think. For $100 they got a pretty good deal. I actually just messaged the woman to see how he was coming along on it. I sell used guitars and he really wanted one of the Les Paul's I was selling but she couldn't afford that at that time. I have the Strat like Glarry and the Bass from them. The bass is OK, I added a kill switch to the bass and after adjusting it all it plays pretty decently. The Strat like I am not so impressed with. The pups are boring and I will be changing those out. I am actually considering getting crazy with the Strat and putting in a double humbucker I have laying around here and yes a kill switch in it as well.

I have that exact model and color. As far as budget guitars go, this one plays really damn good. I always change strings to my favorite strings. It does indeed have a 5 way selector switch. I am, however, looking for ways to give it an overhaul. I don't have any soldering tools and I don't know how to do it. So, I don't know if I'll ever change the pickups. I will be changing the tuners. Also, I'm looking to get a better tremolo bridge, but having a hard time finding one that will fit.

Get a cheap soldering iron. Specifically cheap. They have a lower temp . The gun style ones get too hot and are in the way. Just get a cheap straight one. Take 5 minutes to practice on scrap, your good to go

They took your advice, they come with 5 way switches and the bridge sounds better now. With the mooer ge100 there's nothing the guitar can't do.

You can buy this type of guitar on Ebay for 60-70 bucks, US. Not too bad for the money. However, be prepared to do some set-up work and major tweaking. These cheap guitars now allow a lot of young people on a budget to begin to start playing guitar. Good.

Yeah, I bought the rg copy burning fire from eBay for my daughter. With a bone nut, set of eBay invader type pickups, and wiring like a JEM, it sounds great. It only took a couple hours of work to get it perfect.

Great video very informative...I'll have two...I'll supply the tusq nut and roller saddles.seems great and simple for mods. They even tell you what length the nut is. Unlike some other guitar companies. I'm taking advantage of this I don't see how they're making guitars this cheap.

Glarry guitars, that's a new one to me, seems like a good guitar for the buck, a lot of mods could be done to improve performance but that hold with all guitars. a little humidifying might cure the sharp fret ends.

It is a 5 position selector switch. Just have to pull the cap up and re-glue or shave it down or what ever you prefer to do to get the 5 positions out of it although mine works perfect! Did you adjust your pickups! I get great clear sound for any type of music from soft to heavy! If you don't bring your pickups up and sort of close, you will get muddy and buzzy noise! Good review! I bought the package for $57.00 US a while back for my Granddaughter for a beginner guitar she is 5 yrs. old and loves playing my guitars (Now she'll have her own and wont have to worry if she bangs it up). The selector switch is a bit noisy but for beginner its no biggy!

I recently bought one of these for my son, he is left handed and hard to find a guitar he likes for metal. 1st thing I'm going to do is drop a bill lawrence 500 xl, dimarzio x2n or SD invader. 2nd thing is new nut at the top. 3rd is new tuners and last is new pots and output jack. why not just buy a guitar that has all those 500+ for a left handed one and he can learn to mod it himself. That is the only reason to buy a cheap chinese guitar :)

Pop an Iron Gear Hammer Head in the bridge spot for less than £40 and you've got a still cheap guitar that rocks (and much more) a hell of a lot better. Iron Gear Steam Hammer would also be good but with such a very light guitar the extra bass punch of the Hammer Head would be awfully nice. No I don't work for Iron Gear but I do own and have experimented with several of their pickups; quality to price ratio is splendid.

I wouldn't recommend as someone who owned a couple glarry guitars. If anything the cases at glarry are more worthy of the price then of the string instruments. I would go for the Harley Benton brand of guitars. The shipping is what will kill you in price but they have amazing products. I don't mean to bring your hopes down with these glarry guitars I just don't want anyone to get as upset as I got when it was delivered to my doorstep.

I have one of these, in sunburst. Definitely china made, can't remember the make off the top of my head (in storage for a couple of years) but build quality is the same. Not terrible like the 50 dollar cheap strats. I just liked the look. Put it aside for my epiphone les paul special 2. I know, but I'm still poor and learning!

You could probably work around the weak bridge pickup by using a distortion pedal. That guitar is nicer than the one I started out on. I paid over 2X as much and got 1/2 the quality guitar back in 1979.

It comes more playable than a starcaster, but for some reason all of these have unfinished necks and all of them have different small issues, I had no prob w/ my selecter switch but my neck needed a load of sanding by the scarf joint.

Mine has a 5-way blade switch but you have to pull the little rubber knob out a little to reach the full neck and full bridge pickup positions. That's probably why you don't like the bridge pickup because you're actually on the bridge-center selection. I don't know why mine would be different than yours but, maybe it is. Check it out.

I got a white one, it has nice sound, pickups sound great, but you can tell the build quality is not sturdy like a more expensive guitar, and can come out of tune if you work it pretty good lol overall, I'm very happy, especially for price.

Yeah it's cheap but why does it have to come with cheap looking logo on the head stock to underline it? Guitar manufacturers, please. - It's not a terrible design all the way, someone tried! Though the horns look terrible on it...and shark inlays...so many useless angles. CGS nailed it on the technical issues.

I wouldn't call that a super strat. I would call that a spider strat. If a guitar was the best playing guitar in the world, but I did not like the way it looked, I probably would not touch it, definitely would not own it. Thanks for the unbiased review again.This style should appeal to people that like the shapes of Dean, B.C. Rich, Jackson, etc, maybe even Ibanez. Probably what Glarry is shooting for. It is 24 frets and has Ibanez style inlays.

I just got the white one . Frets are good but it’s going to need a neck shim as it came with saddles already lowered , neck is straight but action is still high . Since I’ll be shimming neck I’ve decided to go ahead and add all gold hardware and new budget pickups , maybe dragon fire ? We will see , I love doing these projects and it will be a great around the house jammer .

They should have sent you one in red, yellow or orange if it's called "The Burning Fire" 🤣 Very similar to the LTD model of the similar shape. I like the size for a travel size electric. This is the only Glarry I know of with a thin fast neck.They should put it on all their guitars,the rest have really thick necks,not good for small hands.I like their light weight and price.They do take a lot of work to make lay decent.I would not recommend for beginners,unless you know how to work on guitars.This was the only Glarry I didn't have to mod to make sound good.I still did a lot of work to it.Replaed the strings,nut,copper taped all the cavaties,had to shim the necks on all my Glarrys.Tuning was way better after I replaced the nut,and blocked the trem,lubricated the plastic sleeves on the tuner knobs,and tighten the knob screws.70 bucks 5 dollar nut,5 dollar strings,coupe bucks in copper tape,And it's a really lightweight fast, rock and roll slaying piece of Chinese wood.

I got one last week. I find the light weight very easy for me after heart surgery. I'm a bit disappointed in the pickup configuration. Thinking it was strat. I mean, why put three pickups and not make it strat. But it does sound very good . I gonna find someone who can wire it as a Strat soon.

I actually like the headstock, even though the guitar has a body that is laughable to experienced players. I saw the strat copies on their site, but I think this neck on their strat body would be really cool.

I like the Black the best, I have the sunburst. It does have that headstock bend similar to the Epiphone guitar. The guitar is also very light weight.

The necks are good for making your own Rickenbacker style guitar. Just a few shaves in the headstock and it looks vintage. Just get maple wood, make your own body, buy your own electronics and hardware and you're good. Sell the body and pickups to some metal head and you got some of your money back.

You might want to check the wiring on it Mike. The br pick up sounded like a neck pickup, (Wired out of phase perhaps with it self?) Middle sounded good, neck not bad. I hear noise in every position clean and dirty! Might not be earthed properly! Cheers Guv!

Not bad, (if you like those sort of things) but Glarry do NOT have much of a range! A few Strat types, no Tele types or Gibson styles, & a few F type basses! Well made for the spare change price.

i have seen a lot of that body style on eBay new and used. seems they do sell, but at a lower end price range. not my body style, but i do like the neck inlays and head stock cut. just like a lot of guitars, cheap or high end need a setup. as far as the sound of the pups? yeah, it doesn't sound all that great to me. for a beginner, the price works. great video and review.

These tune down ok but the short scale length limits how low you can go a bit. Tune to c and you're good.

I know that you said this guitar is smaller which is awesome but I have pretty small hands so I'm a bit concerned about the neck width, as I've watched a couple reviews stating that it's thicker. Do you think it would still be okay for me? Please let me know if you can, thank you :)

if an ELECTRIC guitar resonates, the luthier is crap. The neck bolts have exactly one job: to keep the neck connected to the body. If it's tight it's tight. Resonance in an electric guitar would take kinetic energy from the strings, thus decreasing sustain. If you want sustain you have to eliminate resonance. greetings a luthier

Does the whammy bar work for dives or is it just for decoration like just stays there not doing it’s job cause I got one basically Bc of the fact it was the cheapest guitar with a whammy bar so please if you got one or the creator who made the vid please give me an answer btw I just ordered it two days ago

I bought one of their Strat style guitars... not sure if it will even burn properly. Untunable and unplayable. Not all cheap guitars are created equal. Try Firefly! I have their LP Jr Goldtop and it’s awesome! (for the $129 price).

Nice guitar but you will want to get new pickups as these glarry pickups are microphones and extremely noisy. Plug it in and tap the guitar or yell at it and you will hear it in your amp. Also the strings are garbage.

I've noticed on mine Neck and Middle, Middle and Bridge are much lower in volume than Neck, Middle , and Bridge by themselves. Have any suggestion on rewiring ?

That's confusing but it might be to do with the middle pickup being a single coil. Humbucker pups work by cancelling noise through opposing magnetic fields while increasing signal due to more winds. It would make sense that the single coil added into that mix might disrupt that balance of magnetic field making the effect weaker by influencing the nearer coil more than the further coil. It might work to ensure that the middle coil is wound in the same polarity as the outside humbucker coils but I still think that might affect the efficiency of them. I'd never thought of this before but it's very interesting. One for my mate Colin Scott I think!

@@Chinaguitarsceptic If the neck pocket it tight, its not so bad, but that system has poor shear strength. Check and I'd bet that if pull the neck side to side, you can see movement. The problem is that because the bolts are sunk into the body, the wood under the bolts is very thin. So, unless the tolerances are really tight, the neck can loosen and the body split under the bolts. I have an Ibanez that I had to shim the side of the neck to tighten the pocket and a friend had a Dean that the neck almost broke off of. It's probably a good design, tonally, but from an engineering standpoint, its not so impressive. I have no experience, personally, but Ive heard the BC Rich Invisibolt system, had similar issues.
