As Esterbrook led the United States for dip pens for years, and my obsession with Esterbrook, it's still a bit surprising that I really don't have any dip pens, save the Dip-Less desk set (444 inkwell, pen holder, not the lever filler version.) In my teenage years, I was interested in calligraphy, so I have had a succession of the Hunt-Speedball pens, mainly the C series, but also a ¾" steel brush and several other types. Whilst my focus has been more on fountain pens in recent years, I am still interested in dip pens. Plenty of vintage ones are still available.😁 The item with the thumb wheel is also a dip pen. The wheel was for adjusting the width of the line. Have never used one, but I've seen some in use. Almost 20 years ago, I was given a vintage technical pen, that was made in Germany. Sadly, it was lost. It was pre-WWII... Dip pens can be more scratchy than fountain pens, mainly because they're not tipped. Really just means that they need a light hand. Weren't many old dip pens that were made of stainless steel, generally brass, spring steel or gold, which is why so many pre-1920s fountain pens are as flexible as they are. People were used to how dip pens wrote, so fountain pens continued that, until the advent of carbon paper made them need to be stiff. I look with anticipation to see your impressions of dip pens! God bless!

At 5:01 I used to named in spanish “tira lineas” I used it a lot with wash and also with “china ink”, which I deposited whit a paintbrush between the two metal sheets that form it and with the small screw, you can adjust the line thickness.
