Excellent review and discussion of this set! I recall the blowback from Elvis fans when Sony announced it would be a digital release only. Clearly, Sony originally planned a digital only release in order to extend the copyright on those takes. You can also find the set on Apple Music. If one wants nearly all of the full uncut sessions in excellent sound, track down The American Way Series (a 5 volume import set). The sound is slightly better on those discs than on There Always Me Volumes 2 and 3. I have also been enjoying the quick take Tuesday reviews of the FTD concert release. I started collecting the FTD releases from the very start in 1999 so I have all of the FTD releases (books and vinyls, too) so far. If there are any FTD releases you don't have, I'd be happy to provide you with pics or video to continue your review series.

Thanks, Michael! Yeah, those are all good sets - though I do find that "Finding The Way Home" is slightly better on some takes - just a shame that set didn't release the takes unedited! And absolutely true on the copyright; it's why we're getting so many box sets lately. Though I'm still surprised more songs' takes (especially "In The Ghetto") aren't complete.

Excellent commentary! I was wondering about the unique size of the packaging for these releases. Are there other artists which use this formatting?
@EAPSociety Жыл бұрын
Thank you! And you know, that's a good question! I'd expect that it's at least a semi-standard format, but not a widely-used one. We'll have to look into it!

Thank you very much John and Jamie for another wonderful and intriguing discussion regarding one of Elvis very best sessions. I have some of the missing takes on the bootleg CDs There’s Always Me volume 2 and 4 put out by Bilko. And yes You guys are right regarding the colourful language amazing but good fun . I have just got around to watching the latest movie about Elvis and the Colonel I was totally shocked at how much inaccurate information was in the film and just how many scenes there were of incidents that never happened . Many people call it style over substance I call it lazy film making . I think Kurt Russels performance was superior and yes there are some inaccuracies in that film as well but I believed Kurt captured the spirit of Elvis more than than Austin who I watched as nothing more than a capable Elvis impersonator and Tom Hanks doing his best Gold member voice anyone for a Smoke and a Pancake. Great review of the sessions guys love your work .

Just found your channel Jamie and I love it! You did actually be part of a forum I was in years ago? Maybe TCB forum or King's Court? Anyways love these sessions and can you see Matt Ross doing a box set thing like Nashville? I'd buy that! Love your albums too! 😎

Hi, Denny! Sorry I didn't see this before - but yes!! Welcome! Yeah, it was one of those forums, but I can't remember which now. And box sets like Nashville? Not quite sure what you mean, so let me know when you can. And thank you so much! We'll have more coming down the road!

@@EAPSociety hi Jamie I guess I mean packaging and remixing like the two Nashville sets? Personally I love the sound of these and the 69 tracks deserve the same treatment! On a separate issue your fade out song on the channel that's you? I honestly thought it was Elvis at the beginning? You're good man! Please make more albums? 🙏 Thank you both for the best Elvis channel. X
@EAPSociety Жыл бұрын
Hi, Denny! Oh, ok, now I see what you mean! I'd be more interested in the 1976 recordings, honestly - the 1969 stuff has been remixed and, so far anyway, never quite captures the feel it does from the original mixes. And thank you - that is me! My older albums (under my full name, Jamie Aaron Kelley) are available in a few places, and my newer-style albums (under Jamie Kelley, to show that it's a departure from what I was doing before) are also available. We're hoping to have the physical CD store up soon, too. But we will be doing more original material in the Elvis style (I also wrote the song) and even recreation albums for fundraising in the future, so there's definitely more coming!

@@EAPSociety thanks for replying Jamie it means a lot, I look forward to hearing your new stuff and I hope you put some on streaming? Yeah I'm a 70s guy too and to hear those Jungle rooms stuff in awesome clarity, I know he did some sessions but to have all the masters undubbed? It's like lifting a blanket off the speakers? Cheers JnJ X

You're welcome, Denny! Thanks - and hard to tell on streaming, most likely not (Spotify isn't good to artists), but definitely agreed on the undubbed! Have a good one!

Thanks, man! And true on the digital side, but that's just because we had most of it on FTDs already. Still, for anyone who missed those, this is a good release, even if I'll be happier when we get it all finally!
