Those cattleya hybrids have beautiful flowers

I can’t wait to see them bloom but it may take a while for some. Luckily, I have been expanding my collection for a while and have many more blooms coming!! Thanks for your comment.

Absolutely! Get more! I really like new blooms so much more than many of the repeat bloomers.

Ah, bringing back memories of mystery boxes from Carmela. Loved those things, always like opening a box of chocolates...

Yeah - I need to be careful - too many orchids and too little space.....😁

Interesting presentation. Plants were packaged nicely and appear to be very healthy and vigorous. Did Carmela give you a detailed explanation why they provided the three plants in the 5" pot and not one single plant as you felt you ordered?

Carmela did not tell me that they even made a change. Since Hawaiian Prominence is no longer listed on their website, I assume that they found out that they were out of plants when my order arrived, filled my order with small plants shoved into a big pot and then, removed this plant from their list of available plants. I did not mention in my video that I contacted them a few weeks earlier with 3 questions about this upcoming order. I asked about the AOS discount, I asked if it was OK for me to do an unboxing video on their orchids on my KZbin channel and, I specifically asked if they were close to running out of Hawaiian Prominence and Andy Urasaki, which I really wanted. They did answer but only the first question. I should have realized that this was a sign of things to come.

Thanks - they are mostly doing well after repotting. I think that it will be a few years before they bloom as the plants were so small...

I have bought a lot of orchids and I want you to know. The reasons why 3 orchids were in 1 pot is because nurseries want to save space and larger orchids sell faster along with them helping each out in 1 pot if its over watered. So saving time, space and getting a profit. The catch is you can't do this with all orchids. You will have a pot with different blooms. I prefer it this way as it can give me a chance to do 2-3 different conditions or have 2-3 different chances. I got one Kingianum that had darker and lighter colors with the same same variegated purple edges on the petals. A deep purple vs a much lighter one. I knew by looking it was multiple plants. I ended up getting 10 plants in that pot. It was the only one with the unique bloom and the rest had something familiar or typical while others I have purchased have just been 1-3 in a pot that do look more uniform. 10 opportunities at a unique plant is a blessing and curse. I can't fault a nursery for doing it personally. In orchids im learning we just get what we get when buying and it's always a risk ordering unseen items online. I know you may not order from them again but I have to recommend 1 orchid from them that you would be very happy with "T-4902 CTNA. Maui Maid 'December Bride' " I ordered 2 from them 1 died the other I took and cut all the roots and mounted has taken off like crazy with swollen nodes growth and roots. It's perhaps my most bold grower and for its price I think everyone should get one.

Thanks for your comment. Since this plant was a clone, I am not expecting any variation in any aspect of the 3 different plants. When you grow seedlings from a cross in flasks, separating the plants can be time consuming and lazy people will put many plants in one container, where they will grow together. That is why you can get different plants - from seedlings and laziness. Separating the plants is better at all levels but it takes more of an effort - this is what I do... When the plants are mixed and tangled, this is a mess. The people at Carmela put 3 plants in one pot, right before sending it to me. These were cloned. The bark was not attached to any new roots and you could see the 3 separate plants fall out of the pot when I removed the contents for repotting. The roots were still shaped like the pots that they were removed from. Carmela also removed this orchid from their website for future purchases - so, they clearly ran out of them, even though I e-mailed them a few weeks before my purchase to ask if they were running out - they did not answer this question in my e-mail. It is good that you are giving them the benefit of the doubt. I believe that they misrepresented what they sold me - gave me 3 young plants where they were selling a mature plant in a large pot. They did this without contacting me. I do not know where this dishonesty ends and I will not purchase from them in the future - there are other more reliable and honest growers out there.

I agree with you re the Hawaiian Prominence. It would have been better if they had offered you three seedlings.

it has now been about a month since I received the plants and they are all doing well but, they may be doing better if some of them were large plants, instead of small plants, placed in the same pot. Thanks for your comment.
