I have this exact model and colour. I think what lower budget brands have worked out now is the modder market is where it’s at, and Harley Benton do this really, really well. I re-laced the tuners- definitely necessary, and the saddles for brass, which wasn’t really necessary but did anyway. The best thing about it is the neck and finish. The neck is solid, not too fat, not too thin. Colour is beautiful and flawless in finish. For this reason I’ll upgrade the pups and electronics myself and it’s a keeper for certain. If I’d have gotten one of these as my first guitar back in the 90s, I’d have been super happy.

Thanks for a great review, precise and to the point. I got my TE-62CC last week, and I can confirm everything you noticed - the good, and the not so good. One thing I'd say is that this guitar has the best, nicest feeling neck I've ever played, not just the right thickness, but the finish... smoooooth, beautiful... which makes this a perfect playground if you want to go for some different pickups (and that's exactly what I'll do).
@AudiomoMusic

That to me is the most important part of a cheaper guitar, the neck being this good gives me the confidence of doing what you're going to do and that is put a few bucks into the pickups. It really feels great and if you haven't gotten the frets polished I'd highly recommend it, the guitar feels so much better even after just some gorgomyte

@@AudiomoMusic Yes, I'll definitely polish the frets, thanks! One other note: tuners are funny - buttons are wiggly, but the mechanism is quite solid, and holds well, so no need to change that bit.

Hey Jim! Love the channel and all the care you put into your videos. You do a wonderful job of breaking down your reviews in a way that communicates essential information for potential buyers while keeping things entertaining and succinct. I plan on picking up some Harley Bentons down the line when I can justify buying two (or three) in one go to take some of the pain off of the shipping to the US, but in the meantime I've just ordered a Kramer Baretta Special that should be coming in February. I'd love to see you thoughts on that guitar if you ever have a chance to review it in the future! Wishing you and yours a wonderful new years!

Great review. HB have always offered a lot of guitar for not much money but the quality definitely seems to be on the up. Like you said this would be a great guitar for someone to progress with and not be too worried about taking a soldering iron and screwdriver to it. They also give you a good option at trying something different without stressing about spending a lot of money on something you may regret. I've got one of their DC juniors and a Dollahan headless that are both great guitars but would have been quite nervous about getting if I'd gone down the comparable Epiphone, Ibanez etc route. I'm seriously considering going for an SC550 after your review of that. Glad I found your channel, keep it up!

It's a really good way to learn about how a guitar works by disassembling and modifying it without too much at stake like you said, it plays well enough out of the box, and it's a telecaster. Not much to criticize honestly especially at how crazy low the price is!

Hi ! Great video! One comment regarding the fret checking with fret rocker. In order to check if there are higher frets you need to check it with the neck completely straight optimally without any strings on .
@AudiomoMusic
@AudiomoMusic 2 жыл бұрын
It is absolutely possible to tell a high fret with a guitar that is stabilized and not moving so long as you give consistent amount of pressure. When a fret is much higher than the others it is extremely obvious even when doing a quick check like this, so long as you check multiple areas of the fret not just the center

This one i like very much. Maybe i will upgrade the Neck Pickup aand the electronics. thats all. Thinking about pulling the trigger on one of these in Charcoal Frost. Price right now is $125 USD, and shipping is $69.xx Thoughts anyone? My only concern is the pickups that I want to keep, and add a 4-way switch w/CTS pots. Don't want to shell out the cash for shipping, then have to pay at least as much for better pups. Oh, and I can do all the work myself, so that's not an issue, and it's rather enjoyable!

I bought an SG and a Strat from them last year and they're beautiful and made real well. The twang is just the hi frequencies that teles are known for that don't sound as shrill as other single coil pickups ( just the nature of the bridge design casing it partially ). A tele can do everything in a recording environment, I've seen them and used them for almost every genre - it's one of if not the most recorded guitar in all of history because of how well it can cover all the bases

Oddly I had a few rusty screws on the guitar (neck plate and pick guard) and a broken string. I ordered a new one not a b-stock, not sure wtf was up with that. I fixed up the issues and replaced the SKUS, overall I like it better than my 1995 Tex Mex Special. Having that true tele neck pickup is a joy, sound great. I just returned a fender player deluxe nashville tele because it had fret glue all over the neck and a bunch of dings in the body. That guitar was 1.3k lol I'll take this any day at 150 out the door, can upgrade etc. The feel and sound of pick ups were better than the fender noiseless.

I've never liked noiseless pickups in Fender guitars, they suck all the tone out to my ears. It's incredible to think you can get such a good husk of a guitar here with the HB and then change little things for not a ton of money as you did. It's an exceptionally good option to have in the market

@AudiomoMusic
@AudiomoMusic 2 жыл бұрын
That would make sense, I've never had the desire to purchase any of their PRS style instruments for one reason or another, maybe it's because I can always find a SE C24 used for not that much more.
@Barbarapape
@Barbarapape 2 жыл бұрын
@@AudiomoMusic A used PRS SE in good condition would be a far better choice at todays prices. I had to upgrade the tuners and pickups plus a fret job and full setup to get the CST24 playable. This was 2 years ago when they were cheaper, now some HB's are getting a bit too expensive if you add in the upgrades. Like a lot of guitar ranges, you need to start at least with the mid range models to get a guitar good enough to keep. The entry level ones are good if you can do your own upgrades but to employ a guitar tech would make them expensive.
@AudiomoMusic

I’ve come to the same conclusion, and have actually opted to part with the Fusion because replacing the pickups and electronics with what I actually would want would cost what the entire guitar did and retain none of the value. The next HB i demo will be a maxxed out one, that does not have HB pickups.
@Barbarapape
@Barbarapape 2 жыл бұрын
@@AudiomoMusic The latest pickups that Harley Benton use are far better that the disliked Roswell ones. I upgraded my fusion mk2 as the cost of the pickups from Iron Gear in the UK was reasonable and less than i would loose seliing it. It was the stark difference between the Eart and the HB pickups that shocked most of us. I was aware of it, but didn't want to say until you made your own comparison. I just don't like most ceramic pickups, they tend to sound harsh and way to bright. Give me Alnico pickups everytime.🙂

I'm weird, i kind of play whatever vibe of music I get from the instrument and for whatever reason this one made me feel like a 15 year old again so that's kind of where I took it in parts haha.. You're going to have a hard time finding a great budget offset. I personally wouldn't recommend any of the squier OR HB offerings. The HB ones are missing key ingredients that make them unique, and the Squier ones well... I've put substantially into the pink jag than the guitar is worth to get it to a standard that is reliable, sounds good, and feels good. Maybe check out a sterling mariposa if you want something offset with a trem

I've got a JA60 and i love It. I never really liked the pickups or bridge of a regular jazzmaster though, so I consider it a built in fix for the problems I would have had otherwise 🤣

Hey ! I'm about buying one but I was wondering if the neck was more of a Fat D shape, or really modern D and thin shape ? Everything seems so perfect on this guitar, it would be a shame if the neck is ultra flat
@AudiomoMusic
@AudiomoMusic 2 жыл бұрын
it's not nearly as thin as most modern sized necks, but it isn't a baseball bat. Compared to a Fender Modern C it's noticeably bigger but I personally greatly prefer that, ymmv

@@AudiomoMusic wow great ! Thx for the answer :) yeah me too, I guess they're a bit similar to the other HB necks ! Oh and I was wondering as well if the frets were Fender-like medium Jumbo, or more Vintage-like frets (narrower than usual medium Jumbo ones) ?

I think the neck is .80 to .8x -which is standard Fender or near about.

This one actually spec'd to a bit over .93 at the 12th so much more substantial than I was expecting for this model

It doesn't feel cheap mainly because the neck feels very substantial compared to a lot of other brands that are 500~ and below. It has a nice thickness and isn't covered with 40 coats of poly on the back of the neck and I really apprecaite that as a player. Can't beat it for the price - Jim

How would this compare to the HB TE-52
@AudiomoMusic
@AudiomoMusic 2 жыл бұрын
Pretty similar, the 52 is listed as having an ash body which is a bit different but outside of that there isn't a whole bunch different. HB don't do the best job of describing their neck profiles and dimensions so it's really hard to gauge that stuff on paper.
@antonakis79ohyes
@antonakis79ohyes 2 жыл бұрын
The most significant difference is the weight, the Te-52 is much heavier. The Te-62 neck is slightly slimmer, but I can tell you that both are equally comfortable. Pickups are sliiiightly different sounding, perhaps the Te-52 has a more interesting neck pickup, though this could be my idea or personal preference.
