Theres the black box and gubbins that just fit into a vehicle, handset clip, extension speaker, multicore cable etc. I really didn't think they would hook up to the cell network as you are suggesting because I believe they are analogue. Love the sound the buttons make, they were great phones.

15:00 I'm not sure where this rumour came from. Transmit power relates to sygnal quality reported by base station so in normal conditions this mobile transmitts less than 1W. Only when far away from the cell site power goes up in steps all the way to 8W if needed. Also modern SIMs are 'multi voltage' so they do work fine in these phones as long as you get full size SIM adapter.

I am trying to source the middle size Dynatac antennas, I suppose due to they being rubber, they fall apart over time and they don't exist really anymore, Any ideas where I can get or even the bigger size one, but mainly the midddle size as they just don't exist now. Best regards, oh im in the UK and use the 3200 international Dynatac.

An old man dropped off a box full of old gear, and inside this box, there was a nokia car phone, with mains voltage adapter, i took it home, it uses a full size sim card that slides in the top of the handset. And this was my "mobile" fixed line for about 2 months, it sucked, but it was a good solution, until i could save up for a d500 :p good times tbh

The motorola 1000 will NOT work in north america. the Americas use different GSM - GSM 1900 NOT 900. you'd never pick up service with one of these. Also because GSM 1900 (in the USA) is at a much higher frequency you can not have a device that has 8 watts of output power at that frequency. only at the lower 900 Mhz GSM900 frequency. Sorry.

Can you get service on vintage brick phones ??? I want one :)
@ivanujkic55097 жыл бұрын
Only if they're on GSM (900mHz and 1800mHz in Europe and pretty much the rest of the world, 1900mHz only in the Americas) or CDMA (only in America). AMPS, TACS, ETACS, NMT, DAMPS, RadioComm, TDMA are all defunct. Basically if the phone has a SIM slot - its GSM. There are some exeptions like a German system that used a special card in payphones AND mobile phones. If you want the DynaTAC brick phone style, you only have the Motorola international 3200 and 3300 (GSM 900mHz). There are numerous GSM MicroTACs (8700, 8800, 8900, International 7200, 7500...), and some GSM StarTACs, (for 1800 and 900 mHz - multiple models, for 1900 mHz only 7000g and 8000g), some CDMA StarTACs. Usually if they start with an 'S', they're CDMA or TDMA. Transportables like this International 1000, the 1xxx series are also an option. For more info on GSM phones, this guy has a 45min long video on the options (just search something like "best vintage gsm phones"). Some of these phones can really cost a fortune, just because everyone wants them to still be able to get service.

when you boot it up, the display reads "DIGITAL" and then displays an "s". it looks like a microtac alpha, but says "DIGITAL EDGE" (the edge is more bolded) below the display. on the flap, it says cellularone, and below it, again, it says "DIGITAL EDGE". i havent been able to find much more information about it.

Hi I wanted to ask if you know if there was an American variant of this phone or something like it from another company?
@BrickCellphones7 жыл бұрын
Hi Tino, No unfortunately there is no equivalent version of the motorola international 1000, 2000 or 2xxx models for use in the Americas on the american GSM system - this is because it uses different frequencies to everyone else in the world. If you are wanting a transportable that still uses a SIM card like this motorola that DOES work in America and Canada on GSM1900 then your only option is a motorola m900 (GSM variant) or an M930 (GSM variant) - be aware that most M900's and M930's are NOT GSM versions !!!! The GSM variant of both these models is extremely rare - last I checked they were selling for about 500 bucks about a year ago. For CDMA without SIM try the motorola M800.

@ivanujkic55097 жыл бұрын
Well a good rule of thumb would be, if it has a big antenna and transmit power of over 5w. In the UK you're stuck with GSM 900 and 1800. AMPS, DAMPS, NMT, TACS, ETACS are all defunct. This guy also has a great video on vintage GSM brick phones (search for something like "best vintage gsm phone"). If you want real worldwide coverage, a phone that will work literaly everywhere, look into satellite phones. Iridium, Inmarsat, GlobalStar and Thuraya are satellite service providers.

NMT900 is still used in Siberia because of the huge signal range it has
@ivanujkic55096 жыл бұрын
alexander giannakeris yeah all these older systems generally had a lot better range, but not because of the way the system works, rather the phones and towers had much higher max output powers, and bigger antennas. An old DynaTAC can pump out up to 8 watts if needed, on newer phones good luck getting half a watt out of it.
