S&W is still top quality in my opinion. The only problem I have with S&W is they do seem to ignore their customer base more than other companies. Issues like the key lock that no one really wants in the frame of the gun I believe generates some of the hostility. In defense of Smith & Wesson it doesn't seem to cause any issues but in defense of the critics it probably does drive the cost up a little bit and increases the complexity which will affect production of the item and ultimately probably does drive cost up a little. Issues with the company like that aside their quality control is definitely not an issue I've ever had.

@@exothermal.sprocket I was at an indoor range 7 or 8 years ago and an older/middle-aged lady in the lane to my left popped over to my lane and asked for help with the target retrieval system. I showed her how to use it, and then went back to my lane to shoot. I see her target go forward, but for the next 10 minutes that I'm there, she doesn't shoot. I'm leaving and she asks me for help again. She has a brand new gen 5 Glock 19 (and this was right around the time the gen 5 glocks were rolling out too), and had a magazine with 2 or 3 rounds put in backwards and was having all sorts of trouble. Mentally I'm like, "oh wow, she's going to hurt herself or someone". Help show her how to put the rounds in the magazine correctly, and while she started doing that I went back to the shop section to find a staff member to keep an eye on her since there was only one RSO atm who was helping some group of tourists at the time. Things could be a lot better. They have the benefit of awesome CNC equipment, consistency, computerized models and designs and product tracking. The old stuff turned out very well because they HAD to do a lot of handwork prior to computerized machines, and the staff was skilled. If they could boot the fools out of their workforce and combine SKILLED staff with their new computerized manufacturing, then we'd have a winner. A downside to computerized everything, is less hands-on, less innovation, less emotional connection to a product. Workers come in, stare at a 3D model on the screen all day, others move parts from a machine to a bin to a rack, others slap some stuff together and test randomized stuff, others slap stuff in boxes. There's little emotional, physical connection to products in this computerized industrialized age and it's showing. Lack of innovation becomes the norm because without the intimate eyes and hands connection to every part, nuanced issues will never be changed, and every single dollar of profit will be tied intrinsically to that computer system. The younger generations today don't understand this stuff. They think the more crap that's been digitized and attached to a computer chip, the better. Nope. A computer is 1's and 0's and doesn't have a brain, a soul, a spirit. A computer doesn't know anything that people don't program it to calculate. A computer cannot possibly quantify a LOT about products people use, nor innovate anything. The more everything becomes a matter of profit, vs. no profit, the worse products will be and the more mundane and pointless our life existence gets.

The moon clip reloads prove why experienced left handers are usually quicker just like with speed loaders. Try it out. Trigger finger pushes cylinder release, right thumb pushes cylinder open as right middle finger contacts and holds the cylinder with the thumb. Point the barrel up as the opened flat left hand comes down on the ejector rod. Return the grip “butt to buckle” as your left hand retrieves your reloader option. Now your left hand has a wide open cylinder you don’t have to reach over the hammer and grip and your left hand to line up the rounds in. Ammo in, left hand goes to grip as right hand fingers drive the cylinder closed by reaching under quickly and the right hand marries with the left as you punch to target. Very smooth, very fast.
