@forzacfc Жыл бұрын
@@chriskilga9708 I Can answer that for you, yes if you carry out the wire mod, which will expand the radio frequencies, plenty of uploads to show you how to do it on here, if its version 2 its the same as the President Lincoln, just cut the white wire, but remember, once you have carried out the expansion, technically speaking you have made the radio illegal as its now out of type specification.

did you get a power cord with it? did not see that. does it have the same end going into the radio that other power cords have? how about rubber feet for the bracket? i am going to use mine as a base and prob put it in the bracket, my radio arrives hopefully this saturday.
@MisterPersuasion4 жыл бұрын
I don't recall if I got rubber feet. The power cord was bad. I had to have a second one shipped for free. It takes a standard three prong CB cord but a little thicker gauge than you get with a normal CB.

Thank you for that video! I know it's been 2 years since you posted, but I hope that you, (or someone out there who knows), can answer a few questions for me. I'm not new to CB radios, (been using them since about '77), and I was an OTR/48 pro driver from about 1985 to 1991, but I am new to SSB. I bought this SR955HPC v2 back in June of 2022. It's Peaked & Tuned and converted and I get a lot of compliments on its performance. However, I'm very confused about the USB & LSB channels and after the segment in your video about the renaming Band 3 to "Lower 40" and Band 5 to "Upper 40", (or at least, that's what I thought you meant), I may be even more confused, (if that's possible). At first, I thought that you meant when you renamed two Band selections on the radio to Upper or Lower 40, (Band 5 or Band 3 respectively), that you meant the Upper Side Band and Lower Side Band. But when you did a PEP test in the LSB followed by the USB, you never switched the Band to either of the renamed selections. So what are you doing when you renamed those to Upper and Lower 40? You actually said "Band" when you spoke about it, so perhaps you didn't quite mean one of the 10 bands in the selection? I would sure appreciate it if you'd clear that up for me. In addition, you said that you altered the channel changes from the default 30KHz with each switch, to 10KHz. Again, I thought you meant the selections for USB & LSB. So if you, (or anyone), can tell me what all was going on there, I may be able to sort some of this out😳. Thanks again for the video, Rich
@MisterPersuasion Жыл бұрын
Sorry Rich for the confusion. In CB Radio you have 40 channels assigned by the FCC. Most of those 40 channels are spaced 10kHz apart in frequency. The 40 channel frequency assigned to CB Radio starts at 26.965 MHz which is the same as Channel 1, and ends at 27.405 MHz which is Channel 40. Each Channel is 10 kHz apart so Channel 1 is 26.965 and Channel 2 is 26.975 MHz....and so on. When you talk on Side-Band, (SSB) It splits the channel so Lower Side-Band LSB on Channel 1 is like 26.963 MHz and Upper-Side-Band USB on Channel 1 is like 26.967 MHz. Notice the SSB frequencies are slightly "Off-Center" from the actual Channel 1 frequency which could be referred to as "Center Slot" on your Clarifier knob. "Side-Band" is just a name for the type of transmission you are using as opposed to Amplitude Modulation "AM" for just regular CB communications. Now when I referred to the Lower Band 40 and Upper Band 40 I was actually talking about ILLEGAL Operations OUTSIDE of the FCC assigned CB frequencies. So essentially "Lower Band would be 40 channels BELOW 26.965 MHz with Channel -1 being 26.955 MHz or 10 kHz BELOW Channel 1's actual frequency. Then you keep going until you've added 40-10 kHZ frequency steps (or "Channels") LOWER than Channel 1. The Upper Band is 40 frequency steps ABOVE CB Channel 40 (27.405) with Upper Band Channel 1 starting at an actual frequency of 27.415--ie 10 kHz Above channel 40 and so on for another 40 Channels, which is also illegal to transmit in, but that's what makes it so much FUN!!!! I hope I didn't confuse you more?
@richpaul8132 Жыл бұрын
@@MisterPersuasion Thank you MP!! No, on the contrary, you've actually made things a lot more clear to me than they've ever been!! I have a chart of the frequencies and used that to follow what you've just explained and I see exactly what you mean. I guess those "illegal" frequencies are what they call "Free-band". Anyway, I'm going to set the radio up just as you've done because it'll keep everything organized and easy to see. Thank you for getting back so quickly! I really didn't expect any replies because it's been two years but I'm sure glad that you did! Rich

Hello Panther, How is that Stryker working for you these days? I should be getting any day in the mail. I will be using it for a base station. Since I live in an HOA and can't install a outdoor antenna. SSB should work with an indoor 1/2 wave antenna using poly stealth 13 gauge 19 strand wire. Perhaps I will hear you out there 73's WR0546 MN.
@MisterPersuasion3 жыл бұрын
You're going to cause a lot of RF interference using an indoor antenna with that Stryker, not to mention exposing yourself to harmful RF radiation. Perhaps you could put the antenna in your attic, or get a roof mount mobile antenna attach it to a 2x4 wooden plank, stick it out a 2nd story window, and dangle a 9' wire from the bottom for your ground plane.

Good video. I bought my President McKinley from Bells CB. Very happy with the radio and the service Bells CB provides. I will only do business with them. With that said, I am considering upgrading to the SR-955 one of these days. My question to you is... are you using the stock mic? If not, can you tell me what mic are you using and are you happy with its performance. Thanks. :)

I tried a power mic with the 955 and everyone said the stock mic sounds best. Use the stock mic with it, especially if you've had Bell's tune it up for you. I also bought a President McKinley for the wife. She's not as big on power, so I wanted a radio that was easier for her to use.
