I have just started watching your KZbin. The one thing I have learned thru the years is someone always has something cooler. You make what your funds permit work! I have owned so many sailboats and have loved them all for the memories we have shared. I have survived hurricanes and severe storms and all the cool electronics mean squat at that point it’s the strength of the vessel, rig, how water tight she is and of course skill and seamanship that matters. I’m restoring a Doug Peterson 55’ 1982 IOR racer named Checkmate originally launched as BullFrog. My wife has been amazing, but she is like Allen Watt, do what you love and be excited about each day. So We are getting Checkmate ready to charter her and share my passion of sailing with endangered youth, Vets with PTSD, corporate charters, family, friends ect... I look forward to your journey!

Defender usually has some pretty good specials going, however, it's hard to beat The GPS Store for overall pricing of marine electronics. They will also put together a custom package for you and then give you a better price. Thanks for the vid!

If you add B&G radar you will need a flux gate compass to get the radar to overlay on chartplotter.

Thank you for posting such amazing in depth videos about sailing! I am 17 and am saving up for a sailboat. You are a great inspiration to me! Keep making great videos! Are you in the navy? I’m applying for NROTC this year as a senior in high school, and would love some advice or tips on anything with the navy or military.

Hey Josh, Big fan of this channel. I know there are some places near Key West that you can drop anchor and live on sailboats for free. Is that fairly typical around popular sailing areas or not? Thanks

Nice video as always. What cam are you using out of interest. The quality is great

George Frankpitt - Thanks! I use a Panasonic G85 for most of it. But sometimes (like at the beginning in my empty apartment) I was using the Canon G7X, which has a nice picture but not great audio. I've done a ton of research on vlogging cameras on a budget, so feel free to ask any other questions. Cheers!

Great info! So when buying electronics, you don't need them to be of the same brand for them to all work together, correct?
@JoshPostVlogs6 жыл бұрын
Why Me? - That's correct only if they are all using the NMEA 2000 system. Like B&G and Garmin use NMEA 2000 but Raymarine uses something different.
@johncarruthers11956 жыл бұрын
Josh Post Raymarine uses Seatalkng which is similar to the NMEA 2000 language however it will also run NMEA devices using an adapter (iTC-5). The Raymarine system like the B&G will allow all displays to share and display all information from your transducers.

Defender has great discounts at at times. Like the lewmar hatches i just got. About half price of list price. If you went with garmin you could of gone wireless for the wind transducer and all could go to the plotter

I debated about Garmin. I went with wired vs. wireless simply because I've heard it's more reliable. It will be a chore to install the cable through the mast though. Thanks for the comment.

Josh Post that is a good point.

David Hightower + If I may touch on the wireless option! From a heath perspective wireless is horribly debilitating to the human body. (It mainly effects our ATP inside the mitochondria. ATP = ENERGY!) I feel being on a boat has the benefit of escaping from EMF, electromagnetic and all other types of RF. (radio frequency) There are many scientific studies now on how wireless and other radio frequencies all through the spectrum can be MAJOR contributors to the demise of our heath. I'm an amateur radio operator with a General Class license so I feel as if I have a pretty good handle and am well versed in radio wave propagation and theory. If you'd like a link for research, here's an MD who's is speaking out about his own research ! jackkruse.com/ PEACE OUT! Ü

onthebeaches1 not worried we all got to die from something and not really any worse than all the chemicals that we put into our bodies on a daily basis anything used on a boat as the state of california says causes cancer in some way form or fashion so unles you live in a bubble you a screwed but wait the bubble is made of a substance that probably causes cancer so we are all screwed
