Can’t wait to see the Cattleya bloom, Amy. It looks like it will be huge! I’ve started with several Catts and am a bit nervous. I remember from my childhood people growing them in greenhouses and have thought I could never grow them. Have watched all your Cattleya videos and that’s a great start. Please say a little growing prayer for me, if you will 🙏🙏🙏
@OrchidWhisperer5 ай бұрын
👋 Hi, my friend! My Catts get a LOT of light. Western exposure with LEDs. Some require more light than others. The miniatures are easier to grow because they don't require as much light as the larger ones do. If you have questions, feel free to ask. Have a great day and I'm praying you'll have great success! 😇🙏💜

You're very welcome Amy! I'm so glad I've mastered the separation process. I "was" so nervous and it took me 2 hrs of shaking through it, 😂 You did a great video. 🙌 You'll love that jade plant! I have one too. Enjoy dear friend. 🌵🌺🌵

Hi 👋 Sharon! Mastering the separation process is a steep learning curve! 😆 You did a fabulous job. Now I'm looking at mine that need separating and I'm trying not to shake! 🤣 It has to be done...they're getting HUGE. Thanks for the tip on using a flashlight. Maybe I won't shake so hard. Lol! You have a Jade 🪴 plant too! I'm looking forward to growing this lil gal. Many blessings to you, dear friend 😇 🧡 🌵

Oh fun...new plants! My sister gave me a Jade plant in a 6" pot from the Farmer's Market years ago. It's now a 12" bowl of Jade. Every Spring I prune it and replant the props. They get big fast! Mine is in a corner that gets Eastern and Southern exposure and it has its own plant light at night. Blessings on your week my friend! ❤

Hi 👋 Molly! You grow lots of different plants...thanks for sharing your care tips! I was wondering if you may have happened to get an orchid for Mother's Day....lol! Have a blessed week, dear friend! 😇💜🌸

@OrchidWhisperer Hi Amy! Yes, I do! I just had to get rid of 3 different Jade varieties that sat together and whatever pest they had I could not get rid of though I battled it for months! No, no orchid for Mother's Day, but I got two beautiful baskets for outdoors ...New Guinea impatiens in pink and a mauve. I hope you had a wonderful Mother's Day Amy!
@OrchidWhisperer5 ай бұрын
@@mollys1584 oh I love New Guinea impatiens. They ate just gorgeous! Oh my I'm sorry to hear you had pests. I detest pests. And sometimes it's not worth keeping a plant that just seems to attract them for whatever reason. My Easter cactus is still in bloom...oh my I love this plant! Did your other one start blooming yet? Happy growing, dear friend 😇 🧡
@mollys15845 ай бұрын
@OrchidWhisperer Me too and they grow well in our climate in NJ. Amy I battled these pests on the 3 jades for probably 6 months switching treatments but could not win and in the end I had no choice. Yes my Easter cacti are both blooming away! I believe we have the same pink one and it's so pretty! When she finishes blooming I'm moving her over next to the red one and putting a Hoya in her current position. I hope you're having a great week my friend! ❤️
@OrchidWhisperer5 ай бұрын
@@mollys1584 I'm curious...was it just those 3 plants that had pests? They didn't infest your entire plant collection? I wonder sometimes if certain plants are just more prone to infestation... Have a blessed week, Molly! 😇🐶🌸❤️

Hi Amy! Just want to dispel the myth that Jade plants don’t like direct sunlight! Yes you’re right I’d wait for your jade plant to get a years worth of roots on it before you give it direct light but when I tell you this I ain’t lyin’ my 3 year old jade plant….they will cook all day long outside in my North Carolina sun with 95° heat and 85% humidity no problem. In fact I find them to be even more attractive when you grow them outside in the sun since they get this very attractive red blush on the tips of their leaves. While it is technically a sign of sun stress. The red pigment the jade plant produces is it’s natural sunblock so the leaves don’t actually sustain any permanent damage. Then come wintertime when I take them back inside. They turn back green when the days get shorter and the suns lower in the sky. Also I found that giving a jade plant a lot of direct sunlight really does help with its growth. If speeds it up a lot. I got a jade plant 2 years ago in about the same size pot you had from a local nursery. After 2 full summers in the sun and about to be on a third, and the trunk on my jade has already got to be a full inch in diameter at this point. I think that besides the extra sun the plant gets being outside, the real key in making my Jade so study and thick with such a healthy growing habit is the wind stress the plant gets from being outside. It’s just like how my tomato seedlings always flop over once I take them outside and put them in the ground LOL cause we ain’t got no wind inside. Btw if you were wondering I grow my jade plants in terracotta pots with 50/50 orchid bark and pearlite. And every spring I fertilize my jade plants with 3month slow release tomato food capsules. They don’t need a lot maybe 10 or so little beads is enough. You could use succulent specific fertilizers but I found that they don’t make much of a different and they more expensive than just getting a bottle of miracle grow capsules and it lasting you 5 years lol Btw now that my Jade are mature I never water them and let god do all the work with the rain we naturally get. But when they were in their first year outside I did have to thoroughly water them every other day or so in late July and August when it really gets up to 95° every afternoon and it’s relentlessLOL Anyways I can’t wait to see your jade plant grow up on the channel!! They’re one of my favorite plant to grow. have a blessed day! - Nolan :)
@OrchidWhisperer5 ай бұрын
Hi Nolan, thanks so much for all the info! I'll go by your growing plan and next year I'll put this lil jades outside! Right now I have it in a bright eastern facing window under an LED light. I've noticed it's already grown some! 😊 I like jades with that flush of red from the sun, so I'll find it a nice place outside next summer. Good to know. Again, thanks so much for sharing your knowledge and plant expertise! Have a wonderful week and happy growing! 😇 Amy

That is a beautiful Cattleya plant. I am hesitant to get a Cattleya. Some that I have seen are just not as attractive as yours. I have quite a few succulents, not because I buy many but because I propagate them…probably way too much. When I prune certain plants I just hate to throw away the parts that I know will live if I pot them up. Jade plants are like that. They are easy to propagate and can be a nice looking plant.
@OrchidWhisperer5 ай бұрын
Thank you, Ellie! Cattleyas need a lot of light, or they don't do anything. If you know that up front, you'll do well with them. I hear you about propagating plants...it's hard not to keep a small, cute baby plant. My sister had many of these lil jades. Have a great day! 😇❤
