What colors would you recommend to a beginner in copics?

Ally Hollis when I started off I got just the regular colors like red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple and a colorless blender I also got black and brown those are just the colors I started off with and I went from there

Ally Hollis you have to have a few years of art training to be able to use copics. Well, you don't have to, but they're made for professionals, haha. So I recommend basic colors that you'd use a lot, like green, brown, skin tones, blue, etc.

Ally Hollis Get the lighter colours. If you get basic ones like "normal green, blue etc" you can't shade because they're too dark and will look too saturated and unprofessional. If you get the lighter colours first (pastel colours like on the video) you can shade with cheaper markers (like Sharpies) & even coloured pencils (at least until you can save money to get more copics). It's what I've done & have gotten both to blend great with copics! Hope that helps.

Jodi Truong You said basic colours, the smaller sets with "basic colours" always include the saturated blue, red, yellow etc. the typical ones. You have to specify if it's lighter colours (Pastel set which is what I was telling them to get because you can find basic colours pretty much anywhere, you don't need to get those Copics right away, the basics are common). And like I said in my previous comment, you can shade with the basics of other more cheaper markers/pencils etc until you can save for more copics. I've successfully shaded with coloured pencils on top of pastel copics and people think I used a darker marker (sometimes it even looks nicer too depending how you colour it). It's the best way I found to save $ for later getting more Copics. BUT anyways, I was answering to OP xD I had not read your comment before I answered here (I'm answering cuz you answered me now & to clarify what I mean by "Pastels vs Basics") xD hehe it's ok tho.
