I remember the first time I got alcohol based markers, I was young and had just saved 60 dollars to buy prismas. After badgering my mom about it we finally went to micheals. I got the colors I wanted after looking at that section for longer then I would have liked to admit and rung up my products. Unfortunately, the markers all together, though 1 dollar cheaper than copics was over my 60 dollar limit. My mom... not being a very supportive with my art at the time was prepared to throw the typical “oh well, I guess it didn’t work out, let’s go home” when the cashier (a lovely university art student) decided to pull a 180 on my mom and give me a 50% off on my markers. Long story short, when I was young and bought those markers I wasn’t serious about art, I was still playing it off as a hobby I did on my free time. Yet finally having a piece of professional art material in my collection allowed me to start taking art seriously, those following years I took EVERY ART CLASS POSSIBLE in my pursuit to learn. I improved drastically. I am now planning to perhaps major in one of the visual arts, yet to be decided. The act of kindness from a person more experienced than me gave me the push I needed and if I could meet that person who gave me the discount (rather it was out of pity or realization that I was a simple child who just wanted to start doing art and they related to me) I’d give them a hug and a thank you. Thanks for coming to my ted talk. Edit: Hey, just wanted to come in here real quick and say that this story is super old. It was old even when I originally posted it. Fun fact, I still have the original 8 prisma color markers in my collection years later. Much appreciation for all the sweet words, advice, and engagement. My younger self would’ve been very happy seeing y’all’s kindness!

Mariya Stoyanova simple mistake, easily fixable.
@starhelestia82736 жыл бұрын
Mariya Stoyanova true, but like I said it’s an easy mistake. When you write comments you aren’t writing to impress anyone, most the time, so you are in a state of mind where you aren’t thinking too hard about your diction. No one writes perfect 100% of the time, even great poets and writers had editors.
@starhelestia82736 жыл бұрын
Mariya Stoyanova the words are just similar in sound, same goes with “there, their and they’re” when people type, they type and message with their speaking voice. Obviously you can teach yourself to be specifically particular with using the words correct, which people do, but on a relaxed whim, again, you aren’t impressing anyone with your diction so it’s very easy to mess up. It’s no big deal, it doesn’t show that the person knows any less. Also it’s the internet, people make typos all the time, just how it is.

For larger areas, Copic not only has an airbrush system available (I've never, personally, used it) as well as markers called Copic "WIDE" markers which are basically a giant chisel nib (I also don't use them that much). I’m gonna be honest with you, I don’t think you need copic markers with your style of colouring. I own them and I absolutely love them but I think they’re only really useful and worth the price when you use a more semi-realistic style of colouring - using multiple markers and up to 5 layers for the skin only for example. I don’t think they’re worth it when you use flat colours and cel-shading... That’s why I would really like it if you tried them with the more painterly style you’ve been doing digitally recently, it could really give amazing results! You can use different colour families as well for lighting effects and it works wonderfully!

Copics are titled artists markers. Maybe they would look good being layered but their artists markers, therefore she could use them how ever she likes. And also that comment sounded like you were trying to say she was doing poorly working with the markers.
@ShadowBunni6 жыл бұрын
@@jaylinroberts2262 I think all they were trying to say was that copics aren't really worth the price if used in a way similar to how waffles used them in this video, since other cheaper alternatives can do the job just as well! It's not saying that she didn't "use them well" but simply a suggestion on what else she could try :)
@laurencedeziel90396 жыл бұрын
@weird girl I'm sorry if my comment sounded offensive, I did my best to explain my point as clearly as I could, I didn't think it would come out as being rude. Of course, she can use them however she wants, I'm not saying she doesn't know how to use markers, I'm just trying to explain why her copics weren't as amazing as she thought they would be, because they're much more worth the price if you use a lot of blending and layering. She said herself multiple times in a lot of different videos that she's still not a pro at traditional art and she's not that used to markers so I was just trying to give a tip.

fun tip for your viewers! the ciao is almost exactly the same marker from the Sketch, except for 2 small differences: (1) they have a smaller range of colors available (214 total colors instead of 356), and (2) they're a little bit smaller and hold less ink. OH yeah, I almost forgot, they typically retail for around $2 US less than sketch markers. :) HOWEVER, if you buy copic refill bottles (which usually retail for about 1.5x the cost of a sketch marker), you can refill a ciao just like any other copic marker, so over time it's not even a noticeable sacrifice. So if you wanna grow your collection and save some money in the process, grab some ciao markers!

I think the refills are one of the reasons why the marks are more expensive. Not a lot of brands offer refills. So I think maybe the copics cost more because the refills will bring down the cost in the long run. It is better to spend 8 dollars for one marker and save money with the refills than pay for an 8 dollar marker every time you ran out.

Hope this clears things up for everybody. The point being...yes, Copics are expensive at the start, but they are extremely economical when the refill costs vs buying a brand new marker are factored in! lol In the long run, you just can't beat 'em!!

please read my comments again....I differentiate between the sketch markers and the ciaos. And I said "at least". All of these are ballpark figures...the POINT being...there is a huge difference between 4-5x and 10-12x. I in no way contradicted myself. I just wanted to let people know that one refill gives you quite a bit of use. If you are confused, the copic website gives all this information. I went there to make sure my numbers were correct...I may have been off by 1 refill....seems a bit petty to be making such a big deal out of it. Here are some copic maker tips after using them for 3-4 years: It's usually a lot easier to color if you ink AFTER. The colors tend to drag the ink if you're not careful. Circular motions with the brush tips will help the color blend itself without streaks. You actually don't need a special marker paper! I've just been using canson sketchbooks with mixed media paper. They absorb the marker better. It may help to make your own swatches because the colors can look different from paper to paper. And finally, you can always get copic markers 40% off at Hobby Lobby. Be it a single marker or the available packs that they have. I hope this helps!

A comparison video would be great. I've always thought Copic Markers were unreasonably and unjustifiably expensive (like almost or over $100 for a mere twelve markers, can any marker be worth that price?), so a comparison to more affordable markers that you yourself have said a good like Ohuhu or Master Markers would be really useful. Keep up the great work!

Im trying so hard not to cry right now. This was the video that originally got me into drawing. I watched this video in 2019, fast forward to 2023 I have had my art showcased on various different art showcases. My portrait I made in the 8th grade in now hanging up in the conference room of my old middle school. My old art from 2019 is hanging up in the art hallway in my elementary school. My art has transformed from anime, to trying Rin’s style (which did not work for me, but her style is amazing and her own) and then I found my style. I really like taking anime and realism and just mushing them together. But when I first originally watched this video I went up to my mom and said, “Can we go to Walmart and get some art supplies.” My mom thought it was just a phase but I really enjoyed art. After a while I forgot what got me into my art journey until came across this video again. I really liked to take the art she made and make it in my own style. I have so many drawings that are the exact same characters as hers. So watching this video really did make me cry because all of my hard work in bettering my art all began with this video. (I apologize if there is any spelling errors or the sentences aren’t structured, this is just like a little rant for me)

Yeah, Copic markers are super nice but, to be honest, they're pretty scary to use. Like, I've had my Copics for 4 years now and I've only refilled my favorite skin tone color because I'm so scared of "wasting my money", even though not only have I had them this long, but my parents bought them for me. After the initial excitement wore off, it felt wasteful to do anything more than full illustrations with the colors. Even thumbnails feel wasteful. That's why even though I have about 80 copic markers, I want to buy the 100 pack of Ohuhus. I haven't even used my copics in about 2 years now because I'm scared of being "wasteful" since they are so expensive. Cheap brands have caught up so much that you don't really *need* Copics anymore to fully enjoy alcohol markers.

Those Two Fangirls Yeah, I have the copic sketch markers. And I don't live with my parents anymore and wouldn't dream of borrowing money from them, so replacing these copics realistically can't be done at least for a few years. They're too scary to use. That’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. The only way to waste art supplies is to not use them. What if you make something and it sucks? You learned! And is learning and getting better not the most valuable thing in the world? Don’t live in fear. Go out and use those damn markers! They are just hunks of plastic anyway, not magic wands or gold bars. They only have value in their usefulness as tools, not getting dusty on your shelf.

I bought a 40-pack off Amazon and I FREAKED when I used them for the first time. The fine nib takes a little getting used to, but it was definitely worth it! I used them to color an illustration of Alice Angel (who I think you should draw because she would look epic in your art style) and it is literally one of my best drawings simply because if the shading I was able to get with the markers! So, as someone whose main medium is markers, Ohuhu really holds up against Copics! So thank you thank you thank you THANK YOU for the recommendation, otherwise I would have never found these markers!

Even though you say you are not as experienced with the markers blending, but the way you describe what you are looking for in the use of the marker actually helps more. It is easier to learn what you are looking to reach for or what to expect when using the markers. Some people just say the colors are more saturated or the ink flows better and comments like that don't help. What thr makers should look like on paper when using the marker. Like when you mention avoiding streaks, and say you waited too long for the marker to drying and show how it gets so much darker helps a lot. 🤗❤️👍🏽💯
@kas_ualties76926 жыл бұрын
Ohuhu markers are awesome; I love the ink and the variety of colors for cheap. Except the bullet nib truly is unfortunate in my opinion, I own 240 markers from the brand since my family isn’t the richest. The bullet nib doesn’t allow you for skinner lines and since the nib isn’t like a soft, brush tip, it’s a lot more harsh and it’s hard to get a clean gradient (it’s possible, but it doesn’t blend well when trying to shade the hair softly unless you use a LOT of layers in my case.) That’s my biggest problem with the markers, but overall it’s a very good deal and I recommend it to everyone.

A small tip from a noob: To get rid of streaking while learning the markers you can use colorless blender to unify it. And it also helps when blending colors after they dry. One of the few things I learned while messing with copics. Honestly while they are expensive initially they are actually some of the most cost effective markers if you use them a lot. A friend of mine figured up that during her college days (studied art with a slight emphasis towards Fashion and costume design and applied it to video games) by adopting Copics over any cheaper alternative that she actually saved around 2000$ over like 6 years. (2 years General Education with secondary art electives, 2 years dedicated art classes, and then 2 years of Game Design/Basic Programming with Concept Art and Game Prototyping focus.) All in all she ended up having little student debt with the way she worked her college and choosing the ways to get the credits as cheap as possible and choosing to adopt something that she knew she would be using a lot.

i've been using copics for about 6 years in architecture, so i understand their limitations and disadvantages. One thing I find easiest, when sketching with them - I only just came across your channel today so i'm not really sure about your approach to drawing, other than the fact you do your line art before you add coloured markers - is adding your line art after your use the copics. It does far less bleeding and you're less likely to smudge. The ink dries fairly quickly, depending on how much you colour in one section, so your uni-pin won't slip over the ink or bleed. It also allows you to blend with other colours easier, and not having to worry about your uni-pin bleeding with the copic ink. You can also purchase a copic colourless blender to blend colours seamlessly. Hope this helps. I also subscribed because i find you quite entertaining :)
