I have the GX2200E and its a fab bit of kit. I have it wired up to my chart plotter as a secondary AIS receiver. TX and RX is absolutely crystal clear. Oh and the PA is to play music to any other boats 🤣🤣
@ChasingCurrents2 жыл бұрын
Thats awesome to hear you think that too! We have it set up the same and so far we're super happy. The AIS is a back up to our normal AIS we use but as you said it works perfectly. When were along in a anchorage we might try the music haha. As always thanks for the comments Vince 😁🤙

Nice one guys. I bought a secondhand SH GX2200 and I needed the MMSI changed to,my number. I took it to the SH base in Winchester and they kindly changed the number while I waited. I had a really good chat with them and when I asked how much I owed them they just said make a donation to the biscuit fund! It’s the little things that make a good company great. Look forward to your install. Andy UK

You got some good equipment from Standard Radio (Also known as Yaesu). When you now do a new install I would recommend you to look at your coax cable for your VHF antenna. Unfortunately a lot of manufacturers of boats as well as owners cheap out on their cable and install RG58 coax which has a pretty high loss going all the way up the mast. Many times it also have crimped contacts and moisture will eventually creep inside and cause even more loss. If you replace it with something like RG213 or RG8 which is still not a high-cost cable you will more than likely double your distance on transmit/receive.

Hey Magnus, thanks for this information! Unfortunately we haven't changed and cables or antenna this time as its already installed and working. If we get the mast taken down in future though we will check what we have and change if needed 🤙

You will love, absolutely love, that RAM. We have a very old system on our sailboat and would not go out sailing without it. We also have a handheld for emergency backup.
@ChasingCurrents2 жыл бұрын
Hey, so far we love it! We still have our handheld also but this is now for a back up instead of being used all the time. Thanks for commenting 😁

How has the wireless mic held up. We have not had good luck with wireless remote mics and are shopping for a radio that has a good wired RAM mic for the binnacle since our VHF is mounted belowdecks in the nav station.

Hi Guys, thanks for great video. We fitted GX2400E to our Hanse 445 last year ... far better than our previous Simrad system. We chose wired cockpit handset as our previous Simrad VHF wireless remote battery never lasted more than 24-hours so on passage, it always seemed to have a flat battery. Be interest to see how you get on. Standard Horizon's HX890E handheld is also a killer radio ... see if SH will let you review one of those too!!! If you ever have problems hearing people when they can hear you, switch off anything like USB chargers, LED lamps, WIFI boxes etc ... you may find something local causing 'white noise' interference, Brilliant. Look forward to the next one.

Hey, thank you for commenting. So far the wireless lasts similar to what you have mentioned so that's good as I thought it might be less haha, we don't mind charging it once a day for a bit. I have seen that handheld and it looks amazing. Maybe when our hand held gives up we will look in to it but still super happy with our budget one from standard horizon 😀. Thanks for this tip about local interference as well, we haven't had any issues yet but always handy to know. Cheers Brynn and Jade

Nice work guys, great product review. Very clear with the specs off each of the items. looking forward to your installation 😁👍

It looks like you got some excellent equipment. Cudos to Standard Horizon for supporting you. Chose a perfect RF cable for the antenna, not the standard cheap offer at the chandlery. Get in contact with a supplier that sells equipment to HAM radio operators. They have a wide assortment of thin but low-loss coaxial cables. Be careful to cover connectors at the mast top with special 3M-vulcanising tape. The most common problem with VHF is water that gets into the cable. Select a VHF antenna, not too short, with a suitable connector. Cheers.

Hey, that's some very useful information! We haven't change our cables for the antenna as it was already installed on the boat. When we get the the mast taken down in the future for what ever reason we will check all cables and connectors. Thank you for this comment 👍

If you mount the wireless unit in the cockpit would this fulfill the same purpose of an external speaker and therefore save you having to mount a separate external speaker ? Bryn you get so excited about techno makes me laugh 😆
@ChasingCurrents2 жыл бұрын
Hey Mart, yep we have found that the wireless unit is plenty loud enough so we don't need a speaker 👍. And glad your enjoying 😀, learning about tech definitely brings me joy haha.

Hard beat Icom. 🤫🤫🤫😂😂😂
@ChasingCurrents2 жыл бұрын
We really did like the look of icom as well. I think the are both up there as the best radios from what we can see. We chose to stick with Standard Horizon as our handheld we have had for 2 years is still working perfectly and has stood up to being used all the time in the cockpit. Also we really liked this radio 😅. Thanks for commenting 😁

Ease don't become that youtube channel that does infomercials everything they get a free product. Next time please disclose that this is a paid presentation. Absolutely painful episode. Sorry guys
@ChasingCurrents2 жыл бұрын
Hi Ralph, sorry you feel that way. It is not a paid presentation, KZbin specifies only to use this category when paid by a sponsor or advertiser. We believe that we're in a position to use and talk about gear relevant to boat life, so that this may help other cruisers making similar purchases. As we mentioned numerous times in the video, they asked us to review, use, and give honest feedback about the gear in exchange for receiving it for free. We don't believe it's any different to product reviews, if honest feedback is given with pros and cons (as we did with our b&g products).

Yes just say it's a commercial for a product you're been given. Up till now your vlogs have been great. Go on like this and your viewing figures will surely fall

@@3wheeler115 hey, would appreciate if you read our above comment 👍Also if you look through our other comments on this video you will see others have found value in it - just because it isn't exactly what you want to see. It's a bonus video, taking nothing away from our vlogs which you could watch as normal.
@3wheeler1152 жыл бұрын
@@ChasingCurrents Yes for some following it might be helpful , but all I'm saying is tell subscribers it's going to be all about a freebie you're had, and normal vlogs will be back next time .
@ralph99872 жыл бұрын
@@ChasingCurrents it's not about how I feel, it's about giving you some honest feedback. This was not a review nor was it a comparison. Did you get the items for free? If yes? Then it was a paid presentation. If you think it was a review, then you are mistaken. You were reading off the box and commenting on how good it was without even plugging it in. Don't get me wrong. I have am earlier version of this radio and love it. I just want to make you guys aware of a slippery slope these kinds of videos can be. Stay independent to maintain integrity. If you do have to sick up to get a freebie, then just summarise the product in a 3-5 sentence finale rather than prattle on for the whole video. All up, stay true to your tried and trusted format.
