He was dropping the walnut because that's what birds do when they open things that are difficult to open (crows and seagulls will drop clama, predator birds will drop turtles 😶). He exhibited a great deal of intelligence by figuring it himself. Also, the first time we gave our bird squash seeds, he didn't want it. I had to peel the shell apart and then he realized it was a seed. I'm not sure why birds don't understand that it's a seed. Maybe because it's not a seed they typically would eat in the wild.

We used to feed nuts to a large Maccaw in the local pet store. After a year of feeding the bird, along with other customers, the bird clamped down on my son's finger. It was a nasty bite that went down to bone, and needed a lot of medical care. Our own Red Conure was cuddly and never nipped at us.

And if you like Cashews, they probay will too. My cousin used to have a Budgie. He would eat whatever my cousin was. One day my aunt suggested a test to see if the bird would eat snow with my cousin. He got a bowl of snow and started eating it with a spoon. Nothing. So he started eating it fast and making sounds like it was yummy. The bird came. Over and ate snow.
