I would love to have a new die cut machine. I’m still using my Cuddle Bug that I’ve had for years. Some of my dies are giving me problems but it’s probably the dies instead of my greatly used Cuddle Bug. Have fun with your new craft toy. 💕

Glad your hubby did well with his surgery. Prayers for a fast recovery for him. You should be cutting into the magic mat, not your clear plate (put magic mat on top of paper instead of under your die). I see you figured it out at the end! TFS

Oh my prayers for your hubby. I’ll be curious to see how the magic mat works. I’ve had both the large and Jr Gemini machines since they came out. I hope you have better luck with yours. They are good machines however the plates do not last long at all. I’m hoping that the magic mat helps with that. My big Gemini is packed in the garage as I favor Anna Griffin’s Empress machine and so does Jennifer McGuire in a video she did comparing those two and another brand. I keep the Jr in my craft room only because it works with my Gemini foil machine. Anna Griffin’s Empress has a thick magnetic plate you cut right into…no taping of the dies and I have not replaced my plastic plates in about two years. I have replaced my magnetic plates a few times. I cannot stand Geminis magnetic mat. It is flimsy and easy to ruin! Watching your unboxing and your first cut I screamed “don’t do it” to the screen. Jennifer McGuire did a video on how to make your Gemini Jr plates last longer. I know you are impressed with the color, but you are going to go thru so many plates to make the machine more expensive than others. I hope you have better luck with yours. Perhaps I’ll invest in a magic mat. Also the small self healing mats at Dollar Tree works too. Mats to cutting machines are like tires on a car. So they need replacement. I just found replacing Gemini plates were too much too soon. Your Sizzix machine has that thick bottom plate which stabilizes the thinner plastic one. I wish all the cutting machines had that thicker bottom plate. The original eBosser had it and I never replaced plates. Like a dope I gave that to a friend when I bought Gemini. I do love Crafters Companion and I met and talked with Sara a few years ago at Creativation in Phoenix when I had designer status thru DecoArt with AFCI. She is an awesome person, and I but tons of stuff from her. I think the plate system on Gemini is a science based on what you’re cutting. I hope the magic mat takes sone of that science away and gives you lots of Joy.

What I do to save my plates as well as cutting into the magic mat is use a piece of photocopy paper or thin cardstock in between the die and the top plate and my top plate doesn’t get any markings. I found I also use a sizzix plate for the top plate it’s just slightly thinner.

You will love the magic mat! My favorite tool. Always cut side down on top of magic mat. Then the cut impressions will always be on the mat and not your plate. and No more warping of the cut plates! Enjoy your new toy! Glad husband is foing well

yes, the dies always cut into the mat , the plastic shim or cutting plate and they warp horribly. try the magic mat in place of the magnetic shim and plastic shim...that might help.

I did the same thing the first time you did putting the did and paper upside down. Cut in to my magnetic mat also. The Gemini Jr is a very strong cutting machine. I still have to have the instructions out in front of me when I do the dies. I’m glad you’re trying the magic mat. I’ll be buying the magic mat x 2 now. Thanks

Oh also if your magic mat starts to curl up just use an embossing heat gun to warm it up and it will go flat. Or set out in the sun 😉

Happy your hubby is home. I had a operation on my hand that lasted 4 hour. I had a lot of damage that needed repair. The doctor said we have more nerves in our hands, that caused me alot of pain. I hope his pain is minimal.

You might want to try cutting without the plastic shim to reduce the pressure. That might help with cutting so deep. So gonad your hubby is doing better and is home!

Just a tip to try clear cutting plate dollar tree green cutting mat cardstock die face down on the DT cutting mat clear plate on top that’s what I use and I have the Gemini pro good luck “i ruined my plastic shim so I’ve replaced it with a dollar tree green cutting mat.

I love that pink! 🥰 Glad your hubby is home... now it's healing time. I hope he doesn't have too much pain. 😊 I have a Gemini Jr. and I love it! Mine's a couple of years old and the only thing I don't like about it is the way my clear plates warp. They seem to have changed those a bit because yours didn't warp, so I might have to order some and see if they're any different. My plates also tend to get cut up pretty fast and that seems to be because the pressure in the machine is so high. I haven't got a magic mat but I see that prevents the cutting into the plates so I might have to look into that too. ☺Anyway... you have fun with that new machine.😊
