Turns out that even if you set up your sandwich wrong, you STILL get a great cut! Who knew? In this video I will unbox my new Gemini Junior die cutting machine, cut a few things and give you my first impressions. I even completely botch a die cutting sandwich, so hopefully that will make you feel better about life in general. Do you have an electronic die cutting machine? Let me know in the comments below!
Check out Jennifer's video wherein she sets up a super plate and breaks all the rules: • Preventing Gemini Die ...
Note: this machine was purchased by me! I did not get it as a freebie and had been wanting one for a while. Long story short: I'm happy with the addition to my craft/dining room! I think my wrists will be happier, too!

I have the big Mama Gemini and it cuts so beautifully. Your reaction was about the same as mine the first time. I didn't realize the noise level, but I am just not strong enough to crank some of those things through manually, so the trade off is worth it. The only time it's annoying is if I am in production mode. Very happy for you Cathy. I too obey everything out of Jennifer McGuire's mouth. XO

I love my Gemini Jr.!! For me, it was for my back, and old memories, instead of my wrists. The crank on the manual diecutters were like those old school ice cream makers that gave me nightmares as a kid. Even after all of these years, I'm at a loss as to how I always got stuck with the job of turning it. I still get an eye twitch when I see rock salt.

Hi Kathy! I am a new follower and I LOVE your videos. I own the Platinum too, but it's my shoulder that keeps me from using it regularly, it just flat out hurts it. But it IS AWESOME. I have the full size Gemini and scored the Gemini Junior on clearance at Hobby Lobby for $51. YES! I LOVE THEM BOTH!!! I do use the sandwich configuration that Jennifer McGuire suggested and have yet to break out my metal shim. What I have found is that there are times when her configuration does not work, such as with 3D embossing folders, so a loose set of plates comes in handy. So yes, I have 2 sets of plates for my Gemini Junior. I just bought the second set on Amazon. THANK YOU so much for sharing all you do! I look out for notifications for your videos!

I have had my Gemini Jr. for about a year and love it. I wasn't planning on buying it, but my local Joann store had it on clearance for $97 and it was brand-new, so I made the splurge. The cutting sounds I heard on your video are normal. I need to rewatch Jennifer's video, because I must have made my sandwich wrong and I had terrible warping of all my plates -- but they still work, which is awesome. I also have had ergonomic issues with hand-crank machines when I am doing a lot of cutting (awful knots in my shoulder), so it was worth it just for that.

You will love it sooooooo much!!! I bought the Big Mama Gemini when it was first released in the states through HSN quite a number of years ago. Then life happened and I had to sell it to some friends, but was finally able to get a Gemini Junior almost three years ago now. I still have my big shot and will likely never part with it, but due to arthritis and issues with my wrists the Gemini Junior is just so much easier and the way that Sara's Dad engineered the rollers to add pressure where it was needed the cuts are amazing. When you see Sara demonstrate it, when it's finished cutting she takes the die with the paper in it, and just kind of whacks it on the side of a trash can a few times, and pretty much all the pieces fall out. It's amazing. I only have tiny collapsible trash bin in My Craft Space, but I keep saying I'm going to try that with the big trash can one of these days just to see if it works. LOL yes they are noisy which surprised me, but I'm fine with that. I've not seen anyone unbox one yet regardless of where they got it that didn't have the extra dies, and an embossing folder. Not always the same ones but they all got extra goodies

I have the full-size Gemini - love being able to put a full sheet of paper in and run it through without trimming down. The Gemini cuts through intricate dies like butter. I don’t use it for everything, just because sometimes it’s faster to run something through my manual machine. But if I have a lot of cutting to do, or if I’m using some intricate dies, the Gemini can’t be beat. I also do the taping together of the plates like Jennifer recommends - makes it so much easier. Enjoy your new toy!

I have rheumatoid arthritis and my wrists play up. I went for the couture creations go power and emboss instead of the Gemini. Reasons: 1 noise, 2. Cuts steel rule dies 3. Plates last for ages 4. Everything you need is included in the box and it cuts up to 9 inches wide. 5.... there was a 5, but I can’t remember what it was...probably price point and reliability. Having said that I’m not sure you can purchase it in the us. 6. All really delicate cuts cut with one pass. Oh yeah...coordinates perfectly with the go press and foil!

I purchased the larger one and love it! I had an old cuttlebug and always had problems with cutting. The large plates let me use larger dies and/or cut more things at once.

I was so happy to see this. I'm getting ready to purchase a Gemini Jr. and just needed some reassurance before I spent all that money. Your videos are always so real. I knew you would "tell it like it is." Next to go watch Jennifer's video.

Cathy, I bought the full size Gemini to mass produce my daughter's wedding invitations last year. It was a gate fold 5 x 7 with a split tree die that made the whole tree when closed, so I needed something that could handle paper that was 7 x 10. It worked beautifully. These machines also cut through heavier items like felt and leather, I believe. It is noisy but worth it.

Hi, Kathy. I feel your pain with the old house and lack of power outlets. Our house was built in 1890 and never upgraded. We’re lucky to have one power outlet per room. Yeesh! I saw that you purchased the Gemini and waited to see how you like it. You always give us the honest scoop.

I got it because of my arthritis and the intricate dies I have from Tonic, I made the plate sandwich like Jennifer suggested (that rule breaker!) and will see what happens. Keep us posted Cathy! TYVM.

I did that the first time too. My Junior is the largest machine I have at this time. I place dies like this on a slight diagonal and then run it through twice if I have to. The crunching is pretty loud isn't it. I keep mine on a bookshelf until I want to use it. My favorite part about the sandwich is I no longer have to remember what goes where because sometimes it's a long time between uses. My nickname is Two Second Cindy so it's really helpful to me and my memory. I started with the Gemini Go and boy did that magnetic shim seriously stretch and then it split in two places but I still used it. When the sandwich video came out I bought all new plates for it too and I love it even more now. Have fun with it.

I have had my Gemini Jr for several years and love it. The loud sound and the cracking are normal sounds. I do use the McGuire sandwich. I have had to replace my plates a few times but I think that is just a normal thing. I also bought the I Craft cutting plate that Jennifer recommended but I haven't tried it out yet.

Thank you for doing a review of the Gemini Jr, Cathy! It gave me the confidence to purchase one, and I received it last night. I quite like it! I will be following Jennifer McGuire’s sandwich ideas and I will be buying different products for some of the shims and plates. I didn’t think that the noise it makes is too loud, maybe because you warned us about it.

I love my Gemini Junior!! I have had no problems with warped cutting plates because I rotate all my plates after each use. I'm still using the original cutting plates that came with my machine 1 1/2 years ago. I love, love this little work horse. My wrists were not helping me much before I got this great machine. Keep rotating and you'll have no problems!

I bought my Gemini Jr and was trying it out a few days later and used the wrong sandwich for the 3D embossing folder. It stopped in the middle and made a terrible noise. (I surely thought I broke it). I tried to cut something and it didn’t even leave an impression on the paper, Little did I realize that the Gemini plates are thicker than standard plates! After a few tears I figured that out, works like a dream, love it

@@czdesign Good job! Another tip for you is when you die cut, place your dies in different areas on the magnetic shim so that it won't warp your plates in the center. I also do what Jennifer suggests of flipping the top cutting plate every time I die cut. Have fun!!!

I have a Gemini Jr. too and love it!! I do more die cutting now than I did with my manual machine. I tried Jennifer's sandwich with the I Craft cutting plate but my new cutting plate and the I Craft plate came out of the machine horribly warped. I have better luck with the other sandwich she suggested. I do need new cutting plates and I'm having a hard time finding them. Still I would never go back to a manual machine ever. Hope you enjoy your machine as much as I do mine.

Your videos make me smile. Thank you Cathy! AND I love the ode to Jennifer McGuire that you had in the beginning. :) The Gemini machine series is a bit loud, with the Gemini having a lower rumble and the gemini jr having a higher pitched noise. I think it's totally normal. I switched to electronic die cutting machines after I had my kids and started dealing with wrist and carpal tunnel issues. I love them and they have saved my wrists. Take care and have fun!!

Oh Cathy, I can tell you that making mistakes is part of the game and ALL of us have made them (on this machine and others.) When you use this machine often, you will probably cut into your magnetic shim a time or two - even though you know what to do! It still works; it hurts you more than it hurts the shim. Yes, I've been using the Gemini Jr for more than a year and it's fabulous. I was starting to experience wrist issues with the crank on my Big Shot (a time or two the crank snapped back and got me when I wasn't careful) when I made the decision to purchase the Gemini. You're going to love it (despite the noise it makes.) The setback is avoiding using the machine late at night due to the noise it makes (or cringe and hold your breath, hoping you're not disturbing anyone like when making an early morning smoothie. 😉) My only "tip" is I bought extra shims so that I could keep my sandwich taped (like Jennifer suggested) because you have a different sandwich configuration when using an embossing folder. I can't wait to see more videos and how you feel about your investment. Luv you! ❤😊
