Welcome to my channel I unbox guns in short video format. I focus on what manufacturers include in their packaging but also discuss minor details or features of the platform. I hope you'll subscribe. Let me know if there are any particular unboxings you'd like me to do.

You can also use the swage to tighten up loose pockets on small primer pockets. Just put the large primer base in and slightliy swage the small primer pocket. If you go too far, just put the small swage back in and open it back up.

Now THAT is a handy piece of information. I have nothing but LC brass, buckets of the stuff, and by the time pieces may be worn out or the pockets loosened up, throwing them away is a significant emotional event for me, unless the necks start to split of course! lol So, reconditioning the pockets is something that would be VERY useful for me and my brass snobbery. Until now, the only remedy I knew of was to acquire primers that were slightly oversized so I could continue using brass with pockets that were opening up. Unix Genix primers from Bosnia is what I"ve been using for that but I'd so much rather stay with CCI #41 and #34 military grade primers which are a bit tighter in dimensions. I'll have to grab one of these dies and see how she plays with my brass.

I'm hearing good reviews on this...thanks for the video. Just a suggestion; you demonstrated crimped primer pockets and the issue it created which was spot on however you neglected to show a close up of the treated primer pocket?

Thanks for the info. I just discovered this item this morning, Now I'm definitely going to be picking one up. I've been getting away with not swaging on my 10mm brass but now I've started to load 5.7x28, and about 50% of the brass I've acquired are staked quite stoutly, it's no longer an option. Plus the chance of crushing primers isn't anything any of us can afford to do these days.

appreciate the video, never thought I would have to do this but lately I seem to be finding lots of .223 and even some .308 that need this done, way too many .223 to just throw away and since this kit does both its an added bonus. great explanation and demo. Pretty sure I will end up going with Lee, most of my dies are from them, thanks!!

I'm seeing a lot of military brass, domestic LC, finding IMI and some other import stuff. Not just rifle, but found some 9mm with crimped primer pockets.

I did purchase this after watching your video. I've used it on .223/5.56, 9 mm and when my son started reloading 40S&W we used it there as well. I left this review where I bought it. The instructions are easy to understand. The setup and adjustment time is minimal. The precision and repeatability are excellent. The force required on the press is less than case resizing. The time required to process primer pockets is a couple seconds per piece. It is quieter, more precise, faster and less hand cramping than chucking a reamer in a drill. I'm using this with a Lee Classic Cast Iron press on .223/5.56 , 9mm Luger and 40 S&W. There have been other 40 dollar purchases I've made, but I can't remember any that have had the impact this tool has.

@@phild8095 I've never seen 40 S&W with crimped primers. What brand?
@phild8095
@phild8095 Жыл бұрын
@@luvtahandload7692 US Coast Guard uses.40 S&W ammunition, specifically MK 309 MOD 0 155gr ball and MK 308 MOD 0 155gr JHP. As military ammo it is crimped. Sometimes parts of productions runs for military make it into civilian ammo because it is easier and cost effective to reduce the downtime and keep running rather than change tooling. Also, some of these lots are sold to law enforcement. I looked it up after having a problem inserting primers one time. Now I just run them all like that to avoid issues. So you may never see it, you may run into a handfull when you are picking up what you think is your brass at the range. Thanks for asking.

It’s an awesome swaging die especially if all you have are Lee presses and are limited on space that a standalone swage tool would occupy.

Compare this one to the rcbs what's everyone's thoughts on which is better?
@phild8095

Lee Ram Swage will fit any press with standard threads. I've seen some reviews where the RCBS wouldn't work on a Lee press. The shell holder/swage die (bottom piece) is spring loaded to remove the brass from the swage tool. There is no fighting this tool.

Not just 5.56. M80. And any NATO marked 9m. Will this work with 9m? Or does it need to be a rifle case to go inside the die body?
@phild8095
@phild8095 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, The Lee Ram Swage will work on pistol brass. I've been using it on 9mm and 40 S&W in addition to 5.56. Best 40 dollar purchase I ever made. I was using a reamer that took a lot of time, left little shavings, and eventually cramped my hand. This is easy to set up and quick to use.

How does it compare to the Swage It or Dillon Super Swage?

The reason I like a die-based swage tool vs a dedicated tool like the Dillon Super Swage 600 is just that - it's way less expensive and I can do more with a die-based setup than a tool that only does one thing. The DSS600 is really nice and works great, but the swaging process is something you do in bulk generally - like 500-5000 at a time. The Dillon sits on the shelf the rest of the time, while I'm pretty sure you'll be using your press for other activity. I've got a turret press for pistol rounds, and a Breech Lock press for this and for precision loading.
@phild8095
@phild8095 2 жыл бұрын
Lee Ram Swage is about 1/4 the price of the Dillon Super Swage, takes up little space an fits in just about any press. The effort is less than resizing 5.56 brass, more than resizing 9mm brass. Vs the Swage it, a little less than half the price and again, takes up less space blah blah

Could this be used with a LEE hand press ? Didn't look like it took that much effort .
@GunBoxTherapy
@GunBoxTherapy 2 жыл бұрын
I believe it probably could be used with the hand press however, it does require a decent amount of force to swage the crimp as well as the need for a stable surface when starting out. Essentially every case, before raising the ram, is barely resting on the “shell holder”. I believe you could do it but I would recommend either buying a dedicated swager like the Frankford Arsenal one or buying this alongside a c-frame Lee like the one I’m using in the video. You will have a much better time with either of those setups.

Hi a great Vid but was hoping you might do another vid reconstructing the Swage after deconstruction. I took mine apart to clean before using and it all came apart with a rush so am not sure how the two interior guides are replaced inside the die. Or I could send my email address. Geoff
