The DC03 did have a changeover valve, the same as other Dyson uprights, so that the suction came from the top of the handle when in the upright locked position, and when reclined, the changeover valve switched the suction to the brushroll housing. The valve is totally different in design though, to the DC04, DC07, DC14, DC15, DC27 and DC33, which all used the design seen first on the DC04. On the DC03, the changeover valve was at the base of the hose, in the centre of the hood, and could be pulled out of the machine in its entirity for cleaning, as one of my DC03 video stripdowns shows. The DC03 was launched in 1997 and carried on in production for a long time, until 2006 ish, well into the lifetime of the DC14. It was a popular model due to its compact size and lighter weight than other Dyson uprights. They had a 700W motor developing about 100 Airwatts, which is the equivalent of the current Light Ball and Ball Animal 2, and also the Dyson V6 and V7 cordless models on their Max mode. Models made in Malaysia will be 2002 and later, and if they did not say "made in Malaysia" on the ratings sticker, they woule be 1997 - 2001 produced in England. Later models did not have the handle bulit over the tool holder on the top of the filter chambers. The post motor filter (exhaust), would have had a small, thin plastic tag handle on the top, enabling you to pull it out of its housing, but often these snapped off, so they were then difficult to extract, as you found out. Your model that was very generously donated by Daniel, is a later model, made after 2002, but the exact year, I dont know, as Dyson did not print any details about the year of manufacture on the ratings stickers of these machines. It could be anywhere from late 2002 until about 2006.

I think even you have said they were popular with the older crowd being much lighter.

I've seen an advert for an unused DC02 Silver/Yellow for £60. The pictures are quite dark. Would you trust it?

@@HooverLux My DC05 Motorhead arrived today, condition is decent enough but definitely needs a clean up, it gave off a strong musty smell when I tried it out.

I like the quirky design of the DC03 and this is in nice condition.

Hi Nick, yes, it’s definitely growing on me, just a shame the suction and the agitation is not very good, I am looking forward to cleaning this one up.

How did you tell?
@madabouthoovers97676 жыл бұрын
It wasnt - as they were still making them in Malmesbury in Dec 2001. Dorian's is a Malaysian vacuum. Dyson shipped all production off to Malaysia in mid 2002. There is no way to tell the age of a Dyson from its serial number unlike Hoover and Electrolux models, and you usually have to make an educated guess.
