Unboxing & Reviewing the Godox DP400III-V: Is it worth the upgrade?

The brand new Godox DP400III-V is the new iteration on the popular DP400III. Godox’s new V-series flashes feature an upgraded COB LED modelling lamp as opposed to the standard E27 tungsten bulbs which means a colour accurate, longer lasting, cooler and stronger modelling light overall. The COB LED modelling lamp of the DP400III-V is rated at 30W which is equivalent to some stand-alone LED lights sold by Godox so it can also double up as a continuous light in some instances. Godox have released other V series upgrades to their popular SK300II-V, SK400II-V, MS200-V, MS300-V which only feature 10W lamps so the DPIII-V series definitely have an advantage with the stronger 30W LED.

Hi there, the SK400II is a studio strobe which is designed for photography and not video. You can buy any Bowens mount softbox modifier for the SK400II. If you were looking for a light for video podcasting then something like the Godox LA150D is a good option.

The godox website give the DP400III-V a guide number of 87 which is equal to godox AD600pro and the original AD600BM (all with the Reflector and all according to the godox website ) can you confirm or deny that through your test results? Because this is pretty major

Hey there, we haven't had the chance to test those exact units yet but we have had a look at this for other Godox units in the past. In this video here we took a look at the QT1200IIIM VS DP1000IIIV kzbin.info/www/bejne/m162fqyfrtKUra8si=5kmXbKjzbvdR--5Y We'd say it's likely that the AD600Pro/BM is still brighter than the DP400IIIV regardless of the guide number they display on their website - it's possible that their testing conditions changed over time.

As mentioned, the old dp strobes have an e27 bulb socket, for the pilot / modeling light, which makes them more versatile. I have used some oblong 60w led bulbs as continuous light, with twice as much light output than the new cob fixtures offer.

Where r u finding 60w LED E27 bulbs from? They don’t come up on google. The highest I can find is 12w LED and it looks like it obtrudes too much to fit within the flash tube. There r 60w halogen bulbs I found but those would still not be as bright as a 30w LED.

@@boulderboibrian Those 60W bulbs can be bought with a high CRI, but they are not COB and they aren't dimmable. Pretty useless unless you only want to run them at full power. I've been in contact with a few suppliers in china and they don't know of any COB, high- CRI LED light that is dimmable and has power in excess of 12W.

Hi Alejandro, the LED COB lights have an expected average lifespan of around 50000 hours but are not a serviceable part of the light by the user. Authorised Godox dealers should be able to assist for in warranty or out of warranty paid repairs if that light does stop working.

If you're referring to the SA-17 it will technically fit as it's also Bowens however its not made for flashes as they get too hot. The SA-17 is made for LED lights only.

It's not replaceable however COB chips, like most LEDs are rated to last 50,000+ hours. Continuously on, that's over 5 years straight! :)

Godox QT1200IIIM GN:105 Godox DP600III-V GN:106 Godox DP1000III-V GN:140 Godox DP600III GN:80 Godox DP100III GN:92 The guide number value of the DPIII-V model seems too high. There is no error in the values specified on Godox's web page, right? I have 4 DP6000III flashes and an Xpro-iis trigger. I take photos of industrial size machines (inside the factory). I need to use the flashes from 10-12 meters away. Since its power is insufficient at a distance of 10-12m, I have to use 2 flashes side by side. I want to buy the QT1200IIIM because it is GN:105. When I saw that it was DP1000III-V flash GN:140, I decided to buy this model. I wrote it to make sure its value is correct.

Recycle time in DPIII and DPIII-V is not the same. DPIII's recycle time is about 1 second and for DPIII-V is 0.1 to 1 second. A couple of months ago, I chose 3 DPIII flashes, my first studio flashes, thinking they could work for some HSS shots, because I thought 1 second would be okay for that, but I realized I am limited to adjust my shutter speed to 1/125, cause if I want to work on a higher speed, shutter appears on my images. It was my newbie error. Hope this info helps someone.

Thanks for sharing your info and experience here with us! Recycle time is a different specification to High Speed Sync. Depending on what flash power you're using, the recycle times for both DPIII and DPIII-V will range from 0.1 - 1 second. Aside from some of their on camera flashes, the Godox strobes which support HSS are their FV, QT as well as their ADPro models. These models along with a HSS compatible Godox trigger matched up to your camera brand will let you shoot with faster shutter speeds without the black band showing up in your photos.

Wall plug in power only. Their ADPRO models are battery powered for outdoor use.
