The British 6pd was a much, much, better anti tank weapon than the US 75mm. Many Cromwells were given 75mm guns and the Crews complained about the inferior performance of this gun to the 6pd.

Hang on let me grab my anorak - Cromwell's in Normandy had 75mm guns firing the same ammo as the American 75mm - So good HE relatively poor AP The 6 pounder was a better hole puncher that the 75mm but virtually useless when it came to engaging Infantry or guns - which is largely what tanks in Normandy had to do as opposed to trying to kill Tiger or Panther tanks - which happened rarely Not a Griffin Engine - the Land use RR Merlin was the RR Meteor Regarding radios - Netting in radios took time and was a relatively new skill - so 2 radios made sense The Cromwell was criminally obsolete in 1944 - obviously no one had actually spoken to the desert veterans - I can probably forgive them the lack of sloping armour but things like hatch size and gun etc which was stymied by the need to keep the tanks width to enable it to use British Rail Gauge transport and this in turn limited the turret ring size which in turn impacted the size of the gun - and nobody told Vickers who where making a long 75mm gun to go in it and so it didn't fit I suspect the trade union mindset was at fault here - its like they didn't know there was a war on in some cases! At worst those troops should have had something as good as a Comet on D-Day - if the British industry had really tried - should probably have had a Centurion in service in 1944!

I really hate being negative and most of this is good. But the 6pdr is not the equivalent to the US 75mm gun. The British 6pdr is 57mm. The tanks are awesome - thanks for the video - but please double check easy data in the future.

Uhhh no the Cromwell used the Ordnance QF 75 mm . It was obtained by boring out the Ordnance QF 6 pounder 57-mm anti-tank gun to 75-mm, to give better performance against infantry targets in a similar fashion to the 75 mm gun fitted to the American Sherman tank.

its a meteor engine, and the 6 pounder was a better AT gun but had weak high explosive
@tristanoliver82956 жыл бұрын
It may not have been good in real life but DAMN it is one awesome looking tank Also, the CS version (With the 95mm Howitzer) had almost as much frontal armour as Tiger I, (101-ish mm) According to Tanks Encyclopedia.

The Cromwell's 6 pounder gun relates to a 57 mm.....NOT a 75mm !....otherwise a nice tank kit review

isn't it cheaper to buy the 3 tanks seperately? Warlordgames gives 10% off on 3 tanks, or is there something special in the platoon boxes which isn't in the single boxes?

The tiger 1 was also completely flat armore and easy to penn as soon as yuo gun can penn atleast 115mm

It had a Meteor engine which was a de rated Merlin. The Griffin was a 2k HP class engine. Get it right guys.

Very enjoyable watching, though it is a shame the vehicle was given a push ahead of other designs, as said, the armor, ability to escape and gun were starting to go sub-par. Though the 6 pounder was still effective against anything smaller then a tiger/panther which was the majority of German armor at the time, it was still capable against the stugs, panzer 4s etc which made a majority of the fighting. Shame that theres no comet for bolt action though, a supped up cromwell which actually did fairly well, or a challenger.

Its nice to see a different kit and it looks not too bad but its way to expensive for two modals. But your history is terrible you really need to do more research. For a start the Cromwell was one of the most reliable tanks during the Normandy campaine and yes some of the early cruisers had there flaws but they still did very well for the conditions they were operating in. The American 75 was a copy of the British 6 pounder which meant they could use each others ammo though the British gun was better at dealing with tanks as it was designed as a anti tank gun. The the name of the engine is in the title meteor not a Griffin and that is to just name a few of the mistakes that you made. This is why wargames get a bad name do your research first and then make your vid

Was this actually designed by the ministry of defense or a private(ish) company? Maybe it's irrelevant because the MoD should have final approval for designs. What were WWII UK tank manufacturers? All I can think of is Vickers.

You say the Americans didn't need that but if you look at their tanks that's exactly what they did. Fast mobile tanks with terrible armour that could punch through the enemy for the infantry to come up behind.
@ZheGerman10 жыл бұрын
Hey, you did a full video on the Cromwell and don't mention its worst flaw: Burstin into flames even if the armor was not penetrated. Earned it the nickname "Tommy Cooker" and there was general consensus that the designer should receive an Iron Cross!
@Henners19918 жыл бұрын
First - this 'Ronson' myth relates to the Sherman. It's typical Wehraboo circle-jerking. Second, funnily enough, any tank (including German ones) that was fuelled with petroleum is going to burst into flames if a penetration results in the ignition of its fuel. Additionally, any tank can 'cook off' if the ammunition explodes. The only real exceptions to the first rule were Soviet tanks and some marks of Sherman - since they ran on diesel. A Panzer IV was just as likely to burn as a Sherman. Early Shermans might've been more likely to cook off due to improper ammo storage, but that was rectified. The Cromwell is a typical tank for its heritage - that being a late 1930s vehicle. Its biggest problem was that it arrived much later than it should have and so was outclassed by contemporary designs. But don't perpetuate ill-informed bullshit about Tommy Cookers.
