In this video I’ll unbox and give my initial impressions of the new 2024 HP Chromebook Plus 14 / 14a It’s a Chromebook Plus model with the Intel Core i3-N305 processor, 8GB DDR5 RAM and 256GB storage. The model I have here is from Amazon in SIlver, it’s model 14a-nf0000sa and I believe it may just be that colour differentiating it from the 14a-nf0000na in ‘Grey’ available elsewhere. The model range globally is 14a-nf0000

I got the acer chromebook plus 514 with the AMD Ryzen 3, it has touchscreen and HDMI. The only thing I don't like about it is the screen and the sound quality. Indeed the panel looks rather dim, but on the other hand, it's a lot more better when you are using it at night, your eyes are better off with the acer screen. Another thing I believe the acer kills its competitors is on cooling system. It never gets above 46 degrees and that is when is charging. So, for instance, during the summer the HP screams for a cooling pad while acer still stays chill. Also, important to note there is a major difference in performance while its on battery and when it stays pluged in. Therefore, for better performance, keep the acer chromebook pluged in even though it has 12 hours of battery. Last but not the least, I believe the chrome software in diagnostics where it shows the health battery it's buged. My acer chromebook had 99% while booting for the first time with its original charger. If you are using a different charger, it will penalise you with 5% of health battery even though it might be a charger with the same watt power.

Hi, thanks for checking the video. Glad you like your Ryzen based Chromebook Plus 514. I might still be able to get hold of one to check it out and review at some point. Have you seen the videos I've done recently on the new 2024 Intel based Chromebook Plus 514? I think you have a very good point on Acer's cooling system. I'm testing the HP from this video we're commenting on at the moment and noticing the fans running a lot more (not in a particularly annoying or loud way though), than then did on the Acer with the same Core i3-N305. That's odd on the charger. I tend to always use a different charger with the Chromebooks I test, as have a permanent one setup at my desk, and I haven't noticed any hit on battery health.

@@MergeDroid I usually watch your videos because thanks to you this year I've bought and swapped 3 chromebooks already. Regarding the charger and the battery, I believe it's only a matter of software as I haven't noticed a dramatic change in real life battery. Also, if you play games only on battery from play store a few days in a row like one hour a day, your battery health decreases in diagnostics with one percent per day, so basically I stopped playing on play store on battery and I've seen this phenomenon on all 3 chromebooks I had. The plastics on lenovo and acer are a lot better than in HP and Dell, even though HP and Dell never let me down when it came about screen and sound quality. There is another chrome bug I've noticed on all three chromebooks, when you minimize and maximize a window, it tends to lag more often than it should, especially when you are on battery. So, in reality, looks like the Chrome OS needs a lot more resources to run basic stuff properly, which is a litter counter-intutive with the first things I've learned about Chrome OS, being a light weigh operating system.

@@CristianTari Thanks, really glad you're watching and finding the videos useful. Interesting on the battery, I'll continue to monitor my side too. With that lag you mention, I haven't seen it - is it reproducible for you even with different site(s) loaded in the window you're testing with?

@@MergeDroid yes it's reproducible, so for example, you open up 5 chrome PWA apps, such as WhatsaApp, Instagram, MSN Money, KZbin and Facebook and we are assuming that you usually don't use multiple desks to swipe with 4 fingers between the desks. So all these apps are open only on one desk, therefore if you are using a mouse, it's much easier to switch between apps by minimizing and maximizing windows rather than using trackpad gestures and when you are doing that, especially when you are only on battery, you will notice the clunkiness when it comes about minimizing and maximizing windows,
