Unboxing the Aerospatiale Alouette: Heller Starter Set Round 2! Cpt first Helicopter

After the 'mixed' response to the Heller Hellcat I opened up this Heller starter set with anticipation.
Having never made a helicopter before there could be quite a lot riding on this, but never judge a kit by it's box.

Only this year the Indian Air Force has begun retiring its fleet of Alouette III called 'Chetak' (the name of king Maharana Pratap's horse). We used it for almost 60 years so definitely a great airframe. Nice unboxing video. Makes me wana get one for myself now

The Irish Air Corps flew them from 1963 to 2007.....44 years

Looks like a nice little kit. May get one (without the paints) and make a Rhodesian variant - as close as possible anyway.

Having built the Airfix Classic Westland Whirlwind helicopter kit, I have no fear of any helicopter kit now. Heller's 1/48 AS350 Écureuil fire fighting helicopter is brilliant, being a bigger scale and more detailed. Some of the older 1/72 Heller kits ( silver plastic) are better and don't suffer from mould wear.

Starter sets are aimed at first time or returning modellers , while gift sets can be a bit more complex , still OK for newbies but also offer a bit more of a challenge ...

Heller list this as a starter set, but most retailers I've seen put it as a gift set. I feel it is absolutely a gift set. Maybe a translation error?

@Cpt VFC could be , but a helicopter would not be my first choice as a new or returning modeller , I only been back a year and still would not feel comfortable tackling one as they do all seem quite fiddly lol

​​great little kit .i bought 2 of them (both regular boxings as oppsed to starter /gift sets) and thank to the Irsh 3rd party decal company,Max Decals i was able to do 1 of them in Irish Air Corps markings.....did you know the I.A.C. flew them for 44 years

I wonder if these "Heller" paints are infact Humbrol paints as the glue is Humbrol

Got one of these recently, mine is minus the paints. Decals are not quite so bad but no matter I've got a set from Dekl's an Aussie supplier (I'm in NZ) they are for the "Rotores de Portugal " Display Team, I go for colours; display teams, racers, special anniversary paint jobs etc, just bored of camo. Ironically the colourful Rotores decals go over camo, can't win em all.😆

Why did you bin the Humbrol glue ? Besides suck ?

The main reason is that it is rubbish. It's very thick and has no way of applying precisely. Now, with a cocktail stick it works quite well, but as I already have some much better cement I simply don't need it
