CORD TIP- For anyone who came here hoping to find an answer about the cord… I found that the bottom portion that isn’t wrapped in that plastic armor, I was able to smush into the bottom pipe with my thumb. Then assemble the pipes. The cord is real tight in there like that scene in the grinch where he gets stuck in the chimney, but it worked…

I just put mine together and had to re-read the manual several times to get that cord in. They want you to shove the excess cord into the bottom tube first, and put the top tube in last and hence wouldn't have to deal with excess cord during the final tube connection. One thing that I'm finding is that the tubes are loose/wobbly, when handling it, even though I've tightened the screws attaching them together as much as I could. Is anyone else finding this too? Thanks for the great video. Loved watching it in action. :)

Don’t know if you figured it out yet. But you had your setting on “trenching”. For edging lower that handle on top to the bottom setting for edging. But it works great and your yard is nice.

Yes very good eye you have. I did figure that out. This was our very first KZbin video and I was a little nervous talking in front of the camera. Thank you about the kind words on the yard. It was a very nice yard but we had to relocate to another house for work reasons. That was probably the nicest yard we ever had. Thank you for watching our video and sharing a comment.

Wish you'd filmed how you got the cord to go into that middle tube. Did you have to fold the cord several times to get the upper tube connected?

I just had to push a little harder to get the cord to go in. It did take a little time to get the cord to go in but once I got it lined up right it went in ok.

Yeah, it needed a bunch of elbow grease to shove it excess cable into the middle tube. I had to do it several times as I got the outer tube going thru with bolt. A real pain in the arse. But it did fit. You can tell that they don't pay the engineers much. LOL

Had to return mine. Middle tube would not fit securely into the bottom tube after tightening resulting is a wobble of the shaft. Technical support was no help and no service center in Michigan to offer assistance.

Sorry to hear about the bad issues. Mine is still working well. I don’t use it every time I mow. I hope someone will help you out. Don’t give up on trying to contact Back and Decker.

Update: I went to Home Depot and looked at the one they had. We took it out of the box and looked at how the middle tube fit into the bottom tube. It had the same issue of being a loose fit causing the shaft to wobble at that location. That should drive anyone nuts when using it. Not good. Flawed design. It could be that they cheapened up these newer models. Just speculation on my part.

So do you have any tips on how you got the cord inserted into the handle? I bought one and could not get the cord in and so I returned it. I see that not everyone has this problem so I thought I simply had a defective one and bought it again. It arrived today and it's the same thing. I just don't see how I can get the cord in, it's way too long. So before I return the second one, I thought I'd ask to see if you can give me some advice. Thanks.

I just kept pushing on the cord and it finally went in like it should have gone in. No trick. I don’t know if it was glued at some point and it broke loose or what happened for sure. When I was finally able to get it to move it went right in. I hope this in some way helps.

@@OToole2.0 I had the same problem and ended up doing the bottom screw first like he did and then pushing harder than one thinks the ever should on a cord- trying to push up into the top handle and down into the bottom handle, twisting , pushing etc and it finally curled up very oddly into the bottom tube and I could put the screw in. Good luck!!! I’m not happy with this machine thus far lol
