Great comparison Dan! I’m a Garmin user as well. I’m adding the Steadycast heading sensor this year to my own setup for better boat orientation when you’re not underway.

Hi Jason, thanks so much for the comments! So I also wanted to get myself a steadycast because it's annoying when my boat thinks I'm heading downriver and has me flipped around when I am drifting etc. BUT then I realized it was not just plug and play and I needed all these other NMEA knick knacks and I bailed. Can't believe they don't have a simple device that plugs in to the NMEA 2000 port and done. The other thing I think is silly is the Force TM has a heading sensor in it, why not just use that? Garmin confirmed to me that unfortunately the built in heading sensor can't be shared to your units. Boooo lol! Tight lines!

Hi Dan, since last time on your channel, I purchased the GPSmap 8610 for the console and the GPSmaps 1242sxv plus,, and the lsv-32 with the arm, retired my 93sv and 74sv units, kept the 94sv with the lake ultra maps for nav, only, put a GT-56uhd on the rear and used the GT-40 up front with the 1242, wow what a system there all networked and I used Garmin large connector ethernet 20 ft cable, and updated the system to 26.20,, started to go with the ecomaps, 106 and 126 ultra.s but the speed and pixels were much lower than the 8610 and same pixels as the 1242sxv plus, one thing I noticed is how garmin went from a stainless steel transducer brackets, I used the ss, and its screw 5 screws lined up prefect, I'm sure you will love the new units, stay safe and FISH-ON 😎 MICK N FL, HARRIS CHAIN BABY 😆

Hi Mickey! Nice setup!! And yes as you said, the GPSMaps definitely have the better resolution from the Echomap, but you pay the extra premium for it for sure. They are beautiful units, but the Echomaps are already super expensive for me lol! Also as you mentioned, yeah was surprised to see the plastic style transducer mount, I think the stainless steel would be a lot more robust so I kept it on for my install as the bolt pattern is identical. I love how seamless everything networks together too... you just network it and everything detects seamlessly, really cool! But MAN do these graphs look huge on my little boat lol!! Love your kid at Christmas like enthusiasm for new fishing gear! Are you just going to connect the new unit to 1 other unit and the panoptix or will you need to get into the networking to have it connect to multiple units with them all talking to each other? I just bought 2 of the 93sv and panoptix and hate the thought of spending another $270 for network hub for all units to communicate.

Hahah thanks Shawn, definitely like a kid at Christmas 100% 😂 So I already actually hooked everything up last weekend and I do haev it networked together, but it's a breeze with the Ultras because they have 2 network ports on each unit, so no need for the GMS10 network hub! So I plugged in one network cord from 1 unit to the other and then plugged in Panoptix to port 2 on my console unit and it's done. No extra settings needed, it immediately lets me see all the units on the network and all 3 transducers from any unit (transom, tm and LS). Now to get my hands on a Force TM :D

Great Garmin and boat upgrade videos. I have the 73sv & GT-54 installed on my Lowe Skorpion SS. Am planning to add Livescope Plus soon. I would appreciate your opinion on this question: Should the Livescope have a dedicated MFD? I've only ever used just the single 73sv (w/ GT54). When the Livescope is installed, is there any use in having the GT54 displayed? Or should the 73sv be dedicated to maps while a 2nd MFD handles Livescope duties?

Thanks for the great video as always. I've got a 94sv plus with the Lake Vu Ultra that I purchased. I'm thinking about purchasing the 106sv and mounting it at the helm and putting the 94 in the back of the boat. Will the SD card with Lake Vu G3 Ultra that I already have work with this setup? Does the card that you create for active captain have to be used for just that purpose, or can you put map files on it also? Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi Tom, this is a GREAT question and I recently had a NASTY surprise with this and will be making a video about it this weekend in fact! In your case, you bought the 106 so it has LakeVu maps on it already, so other LakeVu cards will also work no problem. Do you plan on networking them? If so, you don't even need to move the card, they can share maps from any unit on the network! For your SD Cards, the Ultra has 2 slots so you can actually have 1 for AC and 1 for the map if you want. You can use the AC one but just in case you accidentally format it or something, I prefer to separate them. Hope that helps!

Another thought. What about going with two 93sv models instead of a single 122SV? I think this would be a lot cheaper especially if using the non-Garmin network switch approach (~$100 vs $300) to resolve the network port limitation.

It's definitely a lot cheaper but then you lose out on the whole point of upgrading to the 12-in screens so you have better visibility on livescope and side view. My primary objective was to get larger screen so I could really key in on details while looking at livescope, the double network port setup is just a bonus 🤣

@@DanRichardFishing Fair point. I suppose the livescope and downscan are an advantage on the larger single screen. I should have clarified a bit. I was thinking other modes like running split screen (e.g., maps & sonar) would be just as well and maybe better on two 9s. Another scenario that came to mind was running left side scan on one screen and right scan on another screen. Is this doable? If so, it seems this could also be as good or better with two 9s.

Dan, not sure if you have a jackplate or not, but does your outboard get in the way of your sideview imaging? It does for mine, currently running a similar boat :/ I know there are ways to get two transducers to work together, just not sure if those y cables are compatable with our ultras xD

Hi Sean! I honestly don't know yet if the lower unit is going to interfere with the new GT56UHD but it did not interfere with my older GT CHIRP transducer so I am praying it still is OK. I rarely use side imaging because Garmin's was always so weak, but the UHDs are SO much better that I am planning on using is extensively so we'll see when I hit the water hopefully next weekend and I can see. I do not have a jackplate, my boat already runs pretty shallow and doesn't really have the HP where a jackplate would come in handy. So hope we're OK, we'll see. If you do decide to run the dual transducer setup on your transom, here's the cable you need and yes it will work on the Ultras :) amzn.to/3ET4gKB Hope that helps and good luck!

Thank you so much Rush! Congrats on your Ultra unit :) Where you saw guys hooking up monitors to their chartplotters to mirror the screen, are you 100% sure they were Echomaps? As far as I know, Echomaps do not support screen mirroring, you can only do it with Garmin GPSMap chartplotters. And yes that sucks :(

Do you mean a Garmin unit instead of Humminbird? I've been pretty loyal to Garmin for several years now but I was thinking of going with Humminbird for the Mega 360 product. Then I discovered how HORRIBLE Humminbird is with their inventory, they have a VERY hard time keeping up with demand and delivering units on time so I dropped them and went with Livescope and Garmin instead. Garmin just have WAY more manufacturing power, you can easily find their units at your favorite retailers or online. You can find some Amazon links in the description if that helps as well :)

Are you loading maps from an SD card on your 93 SV? If so, maybe that's why the map loaded slower. SD cards can be slower compared to built-in flash memory Great video by the way ended up going with 10" 106SV Garmin UHD for my boat because the 12-in didn't fit behind the windshield on my boat

No the maps displaying on the screen are the built in Canadian maps. That unit is actually a 95sv :) The processor is definitely faster on the ultra units. I'm sure the 10-inch one is fantastic as well did you grab that amazing deal from bps? I really considered it but I already had the 12-in unit and I know I wanted to get another one.

I would really like a unit for the bow and the 12" model would be great up there for the livescope Is the GT56 transducer have 3 different frequency for side scan? Like 455 MHz 800 MHz and 1200 MHz? Hi Mike, thank you so much for the comments, really appreciate it! And yes, the difference is pretty huge considering it only seems like a couple of extra inches of screen! I am currently still using my MK Terrova but I will be upgrading to a Force at some point this year and I can't wait to have it integrated with the rest of my Garmin gear. So far the feedback I have on it has been excellent, the only real downer is the plastic skeg on it, but you can buy aftermarket aluminum ones online. Tight lines!

I bought the 126sv w/gt56, what's crazy here in the state's is the 122sv w/gt56 is the same price as the 126sv. If you order the 122sv without the gt56 you save a couple hundred $ compared to the 126sv without the gt56.

I think we're saying the same thing right? The 122 is about 2 or $300 cheaper than the 126 MSRP. I buy all my equipment from US stores. It's just because of the maps.

That's way I went ahead and got the 126sv but if I didn't want the gt56 I would have ordered the 122sv. after garmin echomap ultra 122sv software update stimulation file missing. quick question: any idea why I cannot run stimulation mode after updating to the latest software? only panoptix works in stimulation mode. I get an error mess the stimulation file missing. I reseted the unit into factory settings after that and re updated by active captain the software and got same results. the unit is connected to battery only , I dont have the boat here how ever it should run the stimulation without being connected to any transducer. any idea welcome. many thx: Joseph

You need to download the simulator and instruction manual as a separate pack and install them on your unit. For some reason as of the last update it's two separate downloads now. Check out the community tab of my channel and scroll down to the post just underneath the new panoptics livescope transducer image, I posted a link to where to download it from.

Did the 1" ball RAM mount hold the Garmin 93sv in all conditions? It seems like some are saying to use a 1.5" ball RAM mount for this size. Bottom line, is the 1" ball mount sufficient? Thanks!

Great question JR, and I would answer it held in MOST conditions, but it would definitely move in big waves on nasty, windy days and the boat took a pounding when running to a spot or back to the ramp. For a boat, I would say going to the 1.5" is not a bad idea, but the 1" ball would be perfect for a kayak and smaller craft like that. But it was so rare that I had this issue that I never bothered moving up 1 size.
