@@SamsTrains Bought 30799 Sir Ironsides weathered BR early crest yesterday Hattons second hand. I think it’s unsold discontinued stock. As I child I travelled from Fife to Holland on holiday. Night sleeper from Waverley to Kings Cross behind A3 Night Hawk. Then from Victoria to Dover behind King Arthur Class Red knight in May 1962. There ware only four of the class left, and Red Knight was withdrawn and scrapped 1953, due to cracked frames. Compared to Night Hawk A3 I was highly disappointed with the N15. The Southern have nothing to be ashamed about these lovely engines. Well done Hornby! Well done Sam!

I just watched this as I had a Sir Lamiel arrive just after Christmas, which is very similar and I realise the vacuum pipe at the front on mine is in the place where the coupling should be! Fortunately it came out easily and I see the correct hole for it, thanks to your video.

Lydia, in standard Pullman colours (with brown band above the windows) was part of Sir Winston Churchill's Funeral train, it was the coach for his Family, it was also part of General Eisenhower's train in France after the D-day invasion.

Another comprehensive and entertaining review as always, Sam. Thank you. What a bargain, although the passage of a few intervening years has made a colossal dfference to what might be considered reasonable prices for model railways! At 14:42, amusing, but cringingly so, to see the rear-most loco driving wheels rotate a significant amount without producing any forward movement until the sloppy connecting rods take up enough excess slack to actually turn the front two drivers! Possibly the worst example I've seen of the inherent problem in relying on flimsy model con rods to transmit power smoothly or effectively. All the more disappointing to see this incongruity in one of the smoothest slow running startups I've ever seen! Rather a let down on an otherwise excellent little loco.

That was indeed a wonderful train pack. I really enjoyed watching it, as I did the reviews of the Excalibur train pack. I really love train pack reviews, and I remember you saying in a vid that you enjoy train pack unboxings as well. Hence the following suggestion : Have you ever considered doing a review of a locomotive and companion coaches you bought separately, but reviewed together as a kind of "home-made train pack" review? It could also contain a discussion of various coach choices for the train, or a discussion of buying options for the same style of coach, but for different quality levels / manufacturers / age of model etc. Anyway, thanks for making all the great vids!

Thanks so much, really glad you enjoyed this one - I just love this pack! I could certainly try something like that one day - very good idea! Thanks for watching - Sam :)

Who came up with the idea for a Pullman coach. I mean they're fancy and all, but what happens if they hit some bumpy track? Will the food go everywhere?
@SamsTrains5 жыл бұрын
I guess they were designed to take a fair bit of rough riding, but generally posh trains like these wouldn't be going on any dodgy track work! Thanks for watching - Sam :)
@lorenzosdeadchannel3 жыл бұрын
Nathan, pullman coaches were only really ever used for express services on the mainline where the track was (most of the time) very well maintained and smooth.
@chaturongarchary97733 жыл бұрын
Supposedly plain or field sceneries with light blue sky background would look better than those fake mountains that are strongly against those refined models.

Looks really good. I am thinking about maybe getting the hornby n15 30792. Do you recon these n15s will get round 2nd radius curves?
@SamsTrains6 жыл бұрын
Thanks very much mate! Ahh very nice - yes they run fine on 2nd radius! :D Thanks for watching - Sam :)
@GWR-fd1up6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reply. Do you also know if the hornby 52xx or 42xx will get round 2nd?
@lorenzosdeadchannel3 жыл бұрын
@@GWR-fd1up 99 % of RTR models will manage 2nd radius fine, althought to bare in mind (especially bigger engines) will look very unrealistic and also you can not apply any of the fancy details and if its a pasific you won't be able to run it with the realistic falged pony wheel. The only model i know of that does not like 2nd radius is the bachmann 9F (amazing model), with that one you really shouldn't go under 3rd radius.

I'm wondering why a replica model of Sir Lamiel, no. 777, hasn't appeared yet. The real Sir Lamiel is a nice engine to look at, believe me. Yet, in reality, just like all the other preserved engines, she hides a deep, dark and dangerous secret underneath. I hope this won't scare you too much, or at worst put you off visiting preserved railways. All the preserved engines (Sir Lamiel included) have earned a rather sinister nickname: Bomb-on-Wheels. Of course, a steam engine needs to be kept well-fed with coal and water. As long as the loco's boiler is full of water at all times, the engine is safe as a house. But dare to let the water level fall too low, and you'll end up possibly being killed by an exploding boiler. Meaning, if too much steam builds up inside the boiler, due to too low a water level, the engine will explode on you without warning. Sounds scary, but it's a true fact.
@SamsTrains5 жыл бұрын
Yeah that's true - are you sure there isn't one?? I'll have to look that up! :D Thanks for watching - Sam :)

they are in the detail bag...he simply never adds any of the details because 1) he fears he'll mess it up and 2) someof his curves are way too sharp for locos to be able to go round them with detials added on...which i personally find quite hillarious...huge layout and still uses 2nd radius like on a cheap train set...a lot of problems on that layout could simply be solved by using flexy track...
