It's not a good idea to put air in your tire when it's on the rack. On my Silverado, it caused too much tension on the cable, so when I tried to lower it, it just clicked. I had to let air out to get the excessive tension off the cable so I could lower it.

It is a pretty good inflator for it's size, you can just throw it anywhere in the car. Feels like Makita quality all the way. Providing you have some Makita 18v batteries - it is not so expensive either. The biggest drawback is that you have to always press the trigger (solvable with some kind of a tie). There are newer models (18v and 40v), much bigger and heavier - but have twice the power and the speed of that.
@tgltoday27172 жыл бұрын
Agreed. Standard makita, gets the job done day in and day out without issues. I saw they have a newer 18v model. I may buy that one next. It looks pretty nice from the little research I did on it.

@@tgltoday2717 I just bought the 40V one. Have not used it a lot. It is HUGE compared to the 18V one, did not imagine it to be so big. But if you are inflating big truck tires - probably will be worth it for you. I kind of fancy more the 40v stick vacuum cleaner that I also got. Same size as the Brushless 18V model - 3 times the power!
@tgltoday27172 жыл бұрын
@@sizif717 I'll have to check the 40v out now. I 'm real curious how much bigger it is and how it does on bigger truck tires. I would think with it being so much bigger and 40v that it should be able to handle a truck tire pretty good. Thank you for the feedback.

This particular model is more of a hobby type model. Do yourself a favor and buy the much more advanced Makita DMP181ZX. FYI: Never inflate a tire while it's on the rack. If it was too low and you fill it up, it will cause tension on your cable, so when you try to lower it, it will just click. If that happens, let air out of it and. try to lower it again.

Just got mine. The box looked like it had been to Ukraine. No directions, and when I try to inflate a tire, it keeps shutting off and showing +/- 64 lbs. . Finally, after reseating the air connector multiple times, I got an air pressure reading that was believable. After I hit the desired air pressure on the Makitas' gauge I double checked it with my longacre autox air gauge. 3 lbs under. I was hoping this was the perfect autox air compressor. I think I'm getting the high-pressure version for Christmas. I like everything about the unit except that you have to hold the trigger down during the inflation. I'm guessing they did it that way, so you're less likely to burn it up.. 🤷♂️ I used my buddy's Ryobi the other day. Set it and forget it. It was really nice! Does anyone really know why Makita left that feature out? Thank for the video! I assumed would have that feature. Makita is usually on top of their game.

I agree. I think the high pressure one is going to be really nice. I've not actually used it but it looks good. A few things. 1. It would be interesting to see if it improved with the 6ah Battery. I know with a drill, the bigger the more power you get so maybe the faster. Also how much longer it would take with a 3ah battery. 2. Decibels is good but when stuck you wont care as long as it works. I bought a jump starter kit, the little jump starter that is good for 20 jump starts. It came with a tire pump and I thought wow thats cool. It said don't pump for longer than 15 minutes, I thought "Who is going to pump for 15 minutes?" My sons bike tire needed blowing up so I thought here's a chance to try it out. pfffffffffffff. Ok now I see why it said 15 minutes.
@tgltoday2717 Жыл бұрын
That would be a great test to see with a 6ah. I actually really want to know now. I unfortunately don't have any. Haha yes, the 15 minutes. Like you said, in a pinch no one cares about noise. I can only imagine how long it would take one of these to blow a truck tire up from start to finish lol Thanks for watching.

A higher amp battery will. give you no more power or make it pump faster than a lower amp one. 18 volts is 18 volts The tool is engineered to use a certain amount of amperage and no more. . However, it will decrease how often you have to change to a new battery.

@tgltoday2717 I chose this one over Bosch Easypump for inflating motorcycles at home or possibly on trip. It seems to be more powerful/sturdy, although a bit heavier. I already have the 12V battery setup. It can still be carried for a longer trip. Also it's cheaper than a bit shop compressor, it can measure pressure and stop at set valued and is portable. The price (below $80) was just slightly higher than the Bosch Easypump (cca $65). I would truat it more than the tiny cheap Chinese boxes (~$20).

TGL ignore the hater comments on here! Decent enough video, what do people expect? Anyways I just bought this tool myself prior to watching this video and I'm thoroughly not impressed (with this tool). This is NOT Makita quality at all. I'm probably sending mine back. I put 30 pounds of air in my wife's car tires then come back and recheck them with a gauge and they're all at 30 but one is at 25. And the Makita display hits 30 pounds and then keeps running for at least another minute. Plus the missing lock on button is just such a huge mistake. Makita stuff used to be fool-proof and of the highest quality "Made in Japan". Now, sadly, it's becoming more and more like Ryobi MADE IN CHINA/ average junk. Don't spend $100+ on this just because it uses the 18 volt batteries.

I got the ryobi for $35 and the ridgid was just on sale for $50. I never saw the makita go on sale. At those prices the ridgid has the lifetime service agreement and you can guy 3 ryobi and 2 ridgids if they were to die for the price of one Makita. The Makita style is defiantly faster which is nice.
@rustyshackleford55095 ай бұрын
So you have to crouch next to a tire for 3 minutes and 40 seconds holding the trigger. No thanks.
@tgltoday27175 ай бұрын
Agreed. Makita definitely drop the ball on this one in my opinion, but I've heard that the updated one you no longer have to do that.
@rustyshackleford55095 ай бұрын
@tgltoday2717 I also saw an accessory that is like a push button trigger lock that you can add to this pump.
@tgltoday27175 ай бұрын
Oh no way! That sounds really cool where'd you find the accessory? I'd like to check it out.

Ha You’re not happy with it but I have a bunch of Makita tools already and just scored one of these inflators at tractor supply for 35 bucks on clearance I’m sure I’ll get my 35 bucks out out of it
@tgltoday27172 жыл бұрын
For $35 I am happy with it lol for the price compared to the others I've used, this one just isnt that good. Theres nothing wrong with it and it's a Makita so it should last a long time. Congrats on your great deal by the way.

I've heard the Dewalt is pretty nice. I'm pretty sure it's faster then this model but I did see Makita came out with a new inflator that is supposed to be better then this one.

I'd rather spend three minutes inflating a low tire than 30 minutes driving to a gas station and paying for air.

It's strain relief ffs. If you don't know the basics is your review worth anything at all?

OK... the spring is a strain relief so you do not ruin the hose. Also, never say "i'm told" when doing a review. Figure it out FIRST

Dishonest review. You used their smallest AH batteries. Use even one size up like 5ah, and it would work just fine.
@tgltoday27172 жыл бұрын
If you watch the Video when I do the test, you will see that I have the 5ah battery on the inflator. At the 9:39 mark in the video I show and tell you that I used the 5ah battery and that it was fully charged.

Are you aware the new model is the 181 and is double the speed ? Lol
@tgltoday27173 жыл бұрын
No, I didn't know they had a newer model. I could only find this one at Home Depot and I also looked at tractor supply. How long ago did they come out with the 181? That's good to hear that its twice the speed. I'm now searching for it.

It's more powerful with an improved duty cycle, but still has the same idiotic design that requires the trigger to be depressed.

Unboxing on a dewalt table. Fan boy biased review!
@tgltoday2717 Жыл бұрын
Haha I'm definitely more of a Makita guy then a DeWalt guy but that DeWalt table is really nice and handy. I have a lot of both brand tools I will say.

You bought a bare inflator. What else did you expect to find in the box. I have this tool and it’s been brilliant. You bought this wanting it to be bad. Bad review and even worse reviewer
@tgltoday2717 Жыл бұрын
I bought this expecting to retire my Ryobi inflator and was disappointed that at the time I bought them, the ryobi costed $35 and the Makita costed $99. The inflator works fine but my point was for $99, I was expecting it to be way better then the home owner Ryobi. And yes, I've had the Ryobi a while now and it gets a good amount of use and still works great. I did see that Makita has since come out with a newer model and it looks like it's way better then this one I reviewed. Thanks for watching.
