I was born the same year as Michael Jackson, grew up listening to him and performing his songs in various talent shows as I grew up in New Orleans. My feeling about Thriller is, and always has been, is that it has to be heard to be believed. The beats, vocal performances, melodies and arrangements are just amazing. True brilliance here.

I don’t recommend leaving the shrink on the outer box. Like leaving shrink on regular sleeves, over time the shrink - shrinks and will damage the corners as it pulls in. In hotter and humid climates, the shrink can adhere to the surface so when it starts damaging the box and you want to remove it, you can’t without causing damage to the surface it’s adhered to. To keep hype stickers, I carefully peel them off (not always possible) and stick them to a new archive quality outer. It’s a balancing act because some surfaces like this one are bad for showing fingerprints. However with careful handling you can try to avoid this as best you can but the fingerprints will definitely be the lesser of the two evils when compared to the damage not removing shrink can do. Thank you for the early unboxing and sneak peek at this brilliant LP 🙏🏽

This was one of my first 3 records I obsessed over as 5 year old kid , the other 2 being complete madness by madness and jethro tull songs from the wood . That’s a random comment from a random music collector . I still love all 3 by the way simply because they’re ingrained in me . I learnt to put a needle on a record to these . They’ll all be forever close to my heart . Needless to say my first copy of thriller ( which I still own ) is in a box by the front door in case zombies invade my front yard - I will not let it near my turntable .

I really dig the new box direction being a slip case design. My main criticism is the continued use of the generic one-step jacket with the “Original Master Recording” album gatefold reduced to an insert. Given the price / competition, I don’t understand why we can’t have a nice tip-on glossy “Original Master Recording” gatefold jacket that could nicely tuck inside the slip case. That being said, definitely a step in the right direction!

Count me as one of your many subscribers who looks forward to my morning coffee while watching your weekly New Arrivals videos every Thursday. I never had the budget to be a MoFi purchaser, but back in 2020 when I decided I needed to add a Kind of Blue for the ages, I shelled out the extra ca$h for the 45 rpm box, thinking I was getting this all analog, definitive and pristine version...count me as one of the many who felt hoodwinked by their lack of transparency. I don't have a problem with digital transfers per se, but they should have been up front about their process and the releases priced accordingly. I really appreciated the efforts you went to, to get to the facts straight and to share your findings with the VC. As far as this new Thriller One Step, I will say that I'm a fan of this updated, more streamlined box. I have a few larger box sets that are like this: Grateful Dead and Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds - Live at Luther College come to mind; I find they sit on the shelf nicely and the records are more easily accessed, so I tend to play them more frequently. Lastly, I like the idea of being able to leave the shrink with the hype stickers on. I enjoyed the review... see you Thursday! 😀

Mike, I enjoy all that you share on KZbin. I have made purchases from your store based upon what you share about new releases. I appreciate the prompt service. Look forward to the "Thriller" release. I have a first pressing. Being a lifelong resident of Terre Haute, Indiana it's fun to find the "T" on various albums in my collection. I remember the Columbia Records plant from years ago. I had various relatives that worked there. I went to warehouse sales over the years and bought records, 8-tracks, cassettes and CDs. My record collection contains many Columbia Records warehouse purchasers. I have great memories of standing in the cold waiting for the warehouse doors to open and moving through boxes of albums that I purchased for $1 each. Thanks for what you do and throw me into the mix for the new "Thriller". David

That bass line(pad) to Billie Jean was one of that last big pop songs that got me….that feeling you got at this time in the 70’s and 80’s when you walked out of Star Wars or Raiders. You almost could float when that needle hit. It’s sentimental in that way as I dove into punk/blues that would show up as promos at the record store I began working at. I became resentful of the spoon fed shlock the record companies were constantly feeding us. It still moves me and I still walk on air. As you age, you realize there is space for all.
